Reviews summary

YMCA of the Rockies is often celebrated for its diverse array of activities, although guests have called out some maintenance issues with both amenities and rooms. Staff members are generally regarded as friendly and helpful, contributing to an overall positive service experience, despite occasional hiccups. While the lodge is seen as a value-oriented getaway, some guests mention additional costs for activities and concerns about room comfort. The atmosphere strikes a balance between outdated areas and clean, well-kept spaces. Cleanliness, particularly in cabins and with hotel-quality linens, frequently earns high praise from visitors. However, rooms often receive mixed reviews, with some guests finding them excessively warm and poorly designed, while others appreciate their tidiness and comfort.

This is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. We had a cabin (aptly named Serenity) that is on the outskirts of lodging, so it was peaceful and quiet, nestled in the hills. The cabin was clean, had a full kitchen, and was very comfortable. YMCA staff were generous with anything that we needed: bathroom supplies, kitchen supplies, etc. This is a great place for families because numerous activities are available for children and adults, and many activities are free. The Alpine Room has an all-you-can-eat buffet that is very good value for the money, with a variety of main courses, vegetables, fruit, drinks, and desserts.

We made a last minute reservation to spend Thanksgiving in the mountains. I was lucky to find the YMCA had a two bedroom cabin available for our family of 5 (kids 10, 8, & 2). We stayed for three nights. The first day we arrived around 2:00pm and our cabin wasn't ready yet. The front desk employee was quick and friendly. She gave us a quick orientation to the park and said we would get a text when our cabin was cleaned. When our cabin was ready we quickly got the keys and unpacked. The cabin was clean and warm but basic. Ours had a double bed in room and three twin beds in the other. While there we hiked, and enjoyed several activities. The pool was closed from the fire damage and many other things were closed or limited due to covid. We did archery with Paul twice, he was FANTASTIC! We also did indoor rock climbing and my kids had a blast. The staff was great with COVID safety protocols. We had such a great time we are going back with our extended family in May 2021 and renting four cabins. This will be an annual trip for our family.

We spent four nights at the YMCA of the Rockies to celebrate a big birthday, and were so happy to have chosen this place.
The location right outside one of the entrances to Rocky Mountain National Park is stunning! While we were there, the area experienced a major snow storm, and we loved looking at the gorgeous mountain views from inside our cozy cabin, with a fire crackling in the fireplace. The roads into the National Park were closed for the first few days of our stay due to the massive amounts of snow, but the YMCA offered plenty of activities to keep us (and our 12-year-old son) happily occupied. We checked out board games, made mosaics at the craft center, tried our deductive reasoning skills in the (Harry Potter themed) escape room, went roller skating, and I enjoyed a massage. On our last day we were finally able to go hiking in the park, which was a wonderful experience with all the fresh snow on the ground.
The cabin was very well equipped with everything we needed to make our own meals, squeaky clean, and very comfortable.
We loved our stay here!

First the good. Great place for families. Lots to do. Free mini-golf, some free programs, swimming pool and game room. You can borrow board games from the Sweet Memorial building. We participated in the parachute activity. Maddie was the instructor and did a fantastic job! There is a dog park that our dog was able to run in.
Now for the bad. We reserved a cabin and lodge room for our group. Neither were ready when we got there. The cabin was ready in about an hour and was very nice and clean. The lodge room was not ready until after 9pm. We were compensated with the 1st night free. When we were finally allowed in the room there was trash under the pillows(empty wrappers and fruit snacks under another) Not sure how much cleaning was actually done. In the front room of the lodge there was trash everywhere. Not sure what is going on. We have stayed there in the past and it has always been clean. Also some of the activities were just to pricey. Axe throwing is 10$ a person, 1 hour horseback riding 60$ and the escape room was 10$ per person. That is just a few. We did the axe throwing and had fun. We skipped the horseback riding and the escape room because of the cost. We were a group of 7 adults, 1 child and 1 baby.

This is our 4th time staying in YMCA Estes Park. The lodge room is always clean, nice views, it have a small fridge in the room. At the lobby of the lodges (we have stayed in the central lodges Emerald, Longspeak and Rams) they have a cozy living room area with fireplace tables and microwave and coffee and hot water. They are walking distance from the cafeteria. All the weekly programs are nice and free, some other are with a small cost. But its worth it. And its affordable. We strongly recommend it for families. The staff is nice and willing to help. We love it! We did a guided hike and we had so much fun!. The kids played in the gameroom, played in the roller skate rink and gym, they did sleding on the hill at the entrance of the YMCA, we visit hidden valley at the RMNP to sled, and stroll in downtown estes park.

Alpen lodge is pretty much a college dorm. A bit more spacious with a sofa. It's old and dated. The linens are definitely not luxury by any means. That said, it was clean, family oriented, and they had coffee available 24/7 in the lobby. The room had a refrigerator. There is a microwave in the lobby. For the price, it was a good deal. It is close to the entrance to RMNP which was our main objective. The breakfast buffet was included in our room rate - and it was plenty of food. The Aspen dining room was clean and there was a good variety of breakfast foods. You could take a to go box too if you wanted one. I did take an extra banana and apples for the day trip. The parking is reasonably close to the main door. They have a small dog park (it was iced over at the time of our visit so we couldn't use it) but it is nicely fenced. The roads and walkways were well maintained after the snow and we had no troubles walking any where we wanted to go. There were many dogs on the property. But we had no problem with them barking or any other distractions. Overall, it's not a luxury spot - but it is clean and safe and worked out well for us.

Location is the first thing to draw you in. The massage therapist is AMAZING. There are many things to do making it fam friendly. The Boone Mountaineering have the most friendly and informative people. You do have to know what to ask. And the price is right.

I emailed asking if there were microwave in the room and several days later they answered yes. I then asked if there were mugs. No. What they didn’t expand upon is there are paper cups in the lobby you can use. There’s no professional forward thinking or anticipating the needs of the customer.

The rooms are very dark so once you are in for the night it’s hard to see if you want to play a game or sew.

They listed yoga but they didn’t do it in March. Yoga would be a great year round addition especially after all the hiking. They could add meditation easily.

Twice I took letters to the lobby to be mailed and they happily took them. The third time the person was almost angry and said no I won’t take it. The post office is two buildings down. I said they took the other two. And she said No I won’t. No smile. No “I’m sorry I need you to take it”.

There are a lot of families here which is awesome to get the kiddos outside but whoever sets the rooms should anticipate that and put the single people on the higher floor so the running around in the rooms isn’t disturbing.

The buffet is a little high for the choices. They did not tell me I would receive breakfast coupons and I had bought food for in the room. The Rustic Cafe was okay but closed on Monday which was not notified on the coupon.

My favorite part staying here was RMNP and the massage.

I met a lot of nice families and dogs.

Lots to do here but lack of communication from start to finish. And that angry person at the front desk…..

We stayed two nights at YMCA at Rockies, a magnificent place conveniently located in 10 minutes from both national park and Estes Park downtown. This place is huge and is surrounded by mountains from all sides. There are many cabins and lodges, but place doesn't seem crowded at all. There are lots of free and paid activities for those who spend significant time on property. There are also several places to eat right there and variety of food is good. One weird thing is that they provide you only with two free breakfast coupons per room per day, while there are usually more people staying in one room. We stayed in a lodge and the room was quite dated, don't expect anything like a newer hotel rooms. Our room had a queen bed, one set of bunk beds, a table and one nightstand. Bathroom was roomy, but there were almost no space around the sink to place our toothbrushes and other belongings. Floors were squeaky and the shower head had a weird water stopping switch that was giving high pitched sound when water was on. Units have no AC, so you'll need to open windows for fresh air and if your room is located close to the entrance to the building, you'll hear all your neighbors excitedly chatting when coming back to their rooms . No TV, coffee maker of hair dryer, but not many people go to the mountains to stay inside, right? :)

We were here for a family wedding and stayed in the Rams Horn Lodge. We knew in advance there was no TV, so we prepared for that. There's WiFi, which was adequate for our needs. The room was a bit worn, with not a lot of outlets to charge electronics, but we managed. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was small but okay. We managed without AC too; we were here in late June and it can get downright COLD at night. However, your room will not be cleaned during your stay unless you chase down a worker. We didn't eat here because I'd rather not eat cafeteria food while on vacation and Estes Park is a fifteen-minute drive away.

Also, when you make your reservations make absolutely sure that you will be in the same room for your entire stay. Several family members had to switch rooms mid-visit, and the staff was VERY slow in getting them into new rooms. Since there were timed wedding things going on, this didn't go over too well. When I made our reservations, the agent tried to do the same with me, but I insisted on having the same room, even if it was in a different building, and also made sure that I got it in writing.

This place is very family-oriented, so if you're looking for a romantic getaway this really isn't the place. The scenery is stupendous, though. Just don't expect luxury.

We have been to RMNP many times, but usually stayed in a cabin or campground. This was a nice mix of both. My kids reallllly enjoyed the mini golf, tennis, and workout equip along the trail.
We ate often in the little cafe in the check in building. All of the food we had there was good and well priced. The gift shop is also a great place for a bottled drink or ice cream.
One night we caught a campfire and were able to make smores. (bring your own supplies)
I actually really liked the hiking on site. You can also connect into RMNP pretty easily. There is so much walking here and for older people that will be a challenge.
We did archery and ax throwing, would recommend saving the ax throwing for older kids. Start looking at reservations or available times before you leave.
Our room was handicap accessible, and the size of the room was fine. We visited in July and it was hot. We ended up running two fans in the window to stay comfortable at night. Our room at Longs Peak Lodge did have a ceiling fan and a tower fan in the room so that helped. It also had a mini fridge. There was a microwave in the lobby if needed.
The ice machine was working in our building.
We did the escape room. I would recommend for ages 10 and below, but have one adult there to help with the math.
Overall, this place would work really well for a family reunion or group trip. There were a ton of youth groups around too, but they didn't bother us.
