Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We spent 3 weeks in NZ and stayed in different places most nights, it think it is fair to say that the worst shower of the trip was in this Backpackers. No pressure and either scolding or freezing.
The kitchen was also one of the worst equipped of the stay with only one saucepan to share round between the guests!
For a place of this size the limited hours of the front desk were also surprising, lots of rules about noise, etc, but nobody to enforce them.
Apart from the shower the room was generally comfortable and had a small fridge too. Everything in the town was within walking distance.

This place is quirky. We are a couple with 2 grown up children. My daughter had a single room which she thought was great. My husband and I were in a motel room ; comfortable but dark and dated. There was soup in the evening, and we enjoyed the breakfast which included pancakes and waffles.
Good value for money and the host is lovely.

I spent 2 nights at Chateau Backpackers and Motels. I had room 20.
Service was good.
Breakfast was below par.
Room was good and clean but bed was too soft for my liking.
Water pressure and temperature in shower was acceptable.

just after I booked this motel the manager closed the bookings down, closing the motel, due to low valume of customers both because of weather and the Covid 19 virus.
The Manager went out of his way to find me somewhere else to stay at the same price.
He got me a room across the street with a competiter and paied the diffrence in price. For this action I will definatly stay here when I return at a later date.

There are so many great things about this place, from the really GREAT free breakfast each morning, free soup at night, fitness room and hot tub. There are two kitchens and heaps of bathrooms so it never felt crowded when cooking. Quirky decor makes a great atmosphere. Chris, the superhuman owner/manager/bed maker does it all with heaps of energy. We loved it.

This was a classic hostel experience. Clean and comfy, had all bases covered. I really appreciated the owner Chris' efforts put into making this a great stay. There was complimentary breakfast, clean towels and bathmats, warm beds and a clean and well organised kitchen. The accommodation was also close to all the activities we had planned.

Crazy comfy beds and heaps of space. Not many other stayers which meant we had tons of room to ourselves. Played pool on the dodgy pool table, enjoyed the ripper free brekky. 10000% recommend for price. :)

The motel is nice but the staff is really unprofessional. We got delayed by a couple of hours and the hotel staff forced us to pay one day extra !! Even though the motel wasn’t completely occupied !! This was our only bad experience on our vacation in new Zealand !!
