Perhaps it was us and our imagination when we read the word "oasis" and looked at the skillfully taken photographs. However, upon arrival the whole thing was a little bit disappointing. To manage expectations: Franz Josef Oasis is no hotel, it is a motel. At least if the definition of motel is that you park your car in front of your room and you're constantly looking at it through the window. The fireplace outlined in the room description in best travel agent lingo is a built-in fan heater with fancy lighting and the whirlpool bathtub can only cater for one person at a time. For a motel this would be quite okay, but then the prices would need to be adjusted to a motel level as well. We were really looking forward to enjoying a fireplace (even a gas heated one) and a nice soak in the whirlpool, insofar the reality was rather sobering...…
Loved everything about staying here! It was easy to find and the views were beautiful! Cozy, warm and the breakfast was delightful! The room was clean and so spacious and the bed super comfy. Will definitely be back
Enjoyed our stay but disappointed that we were not told restaurant closed as we booked intending to eat there. We enjoyed breakfast even though choice limited. A bit disappointed in the very small spa bath and the fire which was really just a noisy fan heater. However, the room was very clean and bed very comfortable
A very nice modern motel style hotel with large rooms comfortable beds and good bathrooms. Very friendly and helpful staff. A little way out of town but local restaurants provide taxi services free. A real good find and highly recommended.
We had one night here. The motel is out of town and a little further than we thought but it wasn’t an issue for us. Great staff and lovely room, large, clean and comfortable. We chose to eat dinner in the hotel rather than head back into town and though the menu is small had one of the best burgers ever sitting outside with great views. Breakfast is continental style with fruit and yoghurt etc. Nice quiet place to stay
Hotels located a little bit out of town but it’s spacious and clean, it’s a bit over rated and the pictures on the booking systems leave you disappointed when the reality hit’s home. Breakfast is OK but nothing to write home about.
Very disappointed with this hotel. The price feels about double what it’s worth. Breakfast wasn’t included either so feels really poor value. It’s located a long distance from the Franz Josef village so walking is not possible and a car is needed. Maybe a 10 minute drive but not really walkable with the long single track vehicle bridges that would need to be crossed. There seems minimal staff here as one person serves both the reception and the restaurant leading to delays. Only one hand towel was provided for the two of us (plus two bath towels) and despite being promised a second towel it never materialised. Our room wasn’t cleaned during our stay and we were told, with the shrug of a shoulder, it must have been overlooked. So no restocking of toiletries, teas, loo paper and no cleaning of coffee cups etc. Just unacceptable at the price we paid. Our tv had a total of nine channels none of which seemed to be main stream channels and any useful ones simply said ‘scrambled’. On the plus side there are two washing machines and one dryer in a side house at minimal charge which could be useful. Overall disappointed with the value and the location so would look elsewhere if ever returning.…
We only stayed one night. The hotel was a short distance from the town. The property itself was new and well designed (More of a designer motel) with plenty of parking. Our room was spacious, bright and simple. Sufficient amenities were provided. The bathroom was large. The only drawback for us was that dinner could not be provided for us and we had to drive back the few miles into town. Breakfast was nicely served but I found the restaurant to be an unusual, corridor shape with a strange ambience. We had a good night’s sleep and left feeling happy and refreshed, so I guess the Oasis worked its magic
Called a hotel...it’s not. Small boutique-type motel for lack of a better description. Outside looks very utilitarian but the rooms are modern (ultra modern) and comfy. Beds are awesome! Heated towels in the bathroom. Very conveniently located to the town and glacier. Because it is small, you can drive right up to within three feet of your room’s door. Friendly staff. I believe they have a restaurant there, but we arrived late and left early, so didn’t have a chance to experience it.
This motel is located a short drive north of the township of Franz Joseph. The simple exterior is misleading as the interior is simply lovely - big and nicely decorated bedroom with big bright bathroom (with Jacuzzi tub). The king size bed is one the most comfortable beds I have slept on. The pillows are great as well. Free WIFI, Free parking and many channels on the huge flat screen TV. Breakfast buffet was simple with a standard selection served in a very quaint dining room. Check in and out was quick and professional. Thank you Jale.
