This hotel is clean and modern. The beds are soft, the pillows fluffy and the comforters warm. It isn’t air conditioned but the windows open to allow in fresh, cool air. I especially liked the large storage area for luggage. The breakfast is good as is dinner.

Needing last minute accomodation, we booked into Scenic hotel in Franz Josef for a two night stay. We were charged $349 per night to stay in an old acquired motel block of rooms that had only a double bed and single bed. The room temperature couldn’t be altered as the rooms

Dear debbielwoods Thank you for commenting on your stay at Scenic Hotel Franz Josef. Our apologies for the heating issue, we would have been more than happy to remedy the heating at the time had we been made aware that there was problem with it, however this should not have happened and has been addressed with the relevant department. It seems necessary to correct some information that you’ve mentioned, the standard room that was provided to you is in a block of the hotel that had a soft refurbishment in 2012, that block and the one next to it were the original hotel rooms and are smaller in size which differentiates them from the superior rooms in other blocks of the hotel. We are more than happy to show people rooms before they make a reservation, there are also recent pictures and descriptions, including room sizes, on our website, along with cancellation policies. Scenic Hotel Franz Josef, to our knowledge, has never had a flood through it, we believe the property you are referring to is about 800m down the road from the hotel you occupied, that property was flooded back in early 2016 and was incorrectly referred to as this hotel by some media. Once again thank you for your comments and we hope you have an enjoyable New Zealand holiday. Kind regards, Lesley, Assistant Manager

Staff were really friendly. Room was nice. Had a couple issues with the Wi-Fi but that’s being seriously picky. There’s on site parking, which I appreciate. We also had a full buffet breakfast included which was great.

We stayed here 2 nights in October, 2018, and we found this place very homey, and comfortable. Franz Josef is a very small village, and we could walk anywhere we wanted to go. Our room had a gorgeous view of the glacier, (when the clouds would lift), and we would have loved to

We arrived at this hotel to find that our rooms had been cancelled by a rogue booking agent and that the hotel was full In stepped Alexander, the manager who was sooo friendly and with German efficiency, reassured us ‘that there were no problems, only solutions’. Despite 97%

Kia ora lovelongboatkey, It was a pleasure to assist you and I am very pleased that we managed to turn things around and that you took positive memories with you away in the end. It just proofs that guests are safer off to book with the accommodation provider directly. Lets hope that your remaining travels in New Zealand are less eventful. Thanks for including a stay at the Scenic hotel Franz Josef Glacier in your travel itinerary. Nga mihi, Alexander

No, you cant walk up to glaciers. There are helicopters rides, and buses which can take you at base of glaciers.

We were in the Graham wing, which seemed to be newer and closer to the main building. If you are out front and look at the property, it is on the right. Our room was facing in the direction of the glacier. We didn't wander about and check out the other wing, sorry. But we were quite satisfied with the Graham wing. You are going to have a great time! I wish I could go back. Enjoy!

Unfortunately we stayed only one night at this place and it was raining. We had our dinner and breakfast at the Restaurant in the Hotel. The food was good. May be you can request them to make you some Indian food.
