Detailed Reviews
We stayed 3 nights in May,arrived late after our drive from Stewart Island. Second day poured with rain but still managed to walk around the Village. Lovely views of the mountains and Croz glacier once weather cleared. We had the studio with mountain views and kitchen, large unit, neat and tidy. A great motel, friendly staff and owner. The only gripe was the dish wash detergent was not refilled, in spite of us leaving it on the bench - surely a good hint??

To be greeted with a smile once is great but here it happens every time. So helpful and kind, our room was fab, well appointed and spacious with a good washroom. Home cooked scones were a lovely touch as was the provision of some laundry powder. The list of sights to see upon leaving a nice thing to do and very useful.

We booked a two bedroom apartment for two adults and two children on a two night special. The apartment was extremely clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Of note the shower was really awesome with great pressure. The welcome we received was very warm and welcoming.
Just 5 minutes walk away we found glow worms which were a highlight of our children's stay.
We would definitely stay again if on the coast and would highly recommend this motel! Thanks Alan and team for your hospitality, most appreciated.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Terrace thanks to the lovely interactions with the management. The spotless studio rooms (no kitchen) are not overly large but adequate with a queen and single bed. Bathrooms are roomy and modern. Being able to park right out front is a bonus. An on-site bbq is handy but byo oil and utensils or make do with a knife and fork. Wifi is slow but not unexpected in this area. The excellent Alice May restaurant is right next door and the 10% discount is a bonus.
We recommend this motel and would stay again.

We stayed here for 3 nights in February. The room was clean, comfortable and very spacious with a large bathroom. The kitchenette had a microwave, kettle and was well equipped. There are some lovely touches such as warm freshly-baked scones with butter and being delivered to the room at about 5.00pm every day (we made a point of being there!) and free glow worm walks being offered on several evenings. The motel is very close to all the amenities of Franz Josef. Highly recommended!

It is a quaint, nice place nestled amongst hills in the cute, little town of Franz Josef. Decently sized rooms with all the amenities that you could hope for. A walking distance from hot pools, glacier valley, eateries and supermarket. It also provides enough parking space for your vehicle with the fuel station nearby. The motel also provides discounts and coupons for some quick bites and fine dining nearby. We also got free scones one evening by the motel guys! Simply loved our stay there.

Stayed here for 2 nights on our tour of NZ. Staff were very friendly and helpful with great communication. They emailed us beforehand recommending places to visit on our journey there....which we found really useful. It was raining very heavily when we arrived so they loaned us an umbrella to go out to eat. The room itself was fine and comfortable...if a little dated. The television must be the oldest model we have seen for a number of years, and the TV channels available were very limited. Not a major issue but we would imagine a family might struggle for evening entertainment. Also the information in the room stated that bed would be made if no personal belongings were left on it...and ours wasn't which was slightly disappointing. Overall though a pleasant comfortable stay.

Fantastic stay in a modern, clean and well equipped motel within a minutes walk of the main Street, shops, bars and activities. We came back one afternoon to the offer of complimentary warm freshly baked scones and jam. If that's not enough to tempt you then the friendly staff and warm welcome will. Definitely recommend for a stay in Franz Josef!

Stayed for two nights in a studio room. Room was spacious, well equipped and had a good sized bathroom. Welcome at check-in was friendly.
Added bonuses; the free guided walk to see glow worms, a free small bottle of milk each day and decent umbrellas to borrow!

We stayed here due to a car breakdown earlier as we weren't able to get to our next stop that night.
Good sized rooms, bathroom good shower, kitchen facilities adequate. Plenty of living room space, good to have all rooms separate from each other. We only stayed 1 night and ate out at restaurant next door (Alice May) but looked like there were enough basic cooking facilities if needed. Reported there was a faulty light bulb and fire was a bit noisy, but overall very good.
Highly recommended.
