Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Driving from Haast to Fox Glacier this is a good choice of a stop before the more expensive motels at Fox Glacier. Set back from the road, this motel is attached to a working farm. Very clean and nicely furnished motel rooms. Charming owners who even provided a large bottle of milk. We paid NZ$140 for a 2 bedroom, sleeping 6 unit. The children loved petting the tame deer and horse.

We had 2 nights at Pine Grove either side of walking the Copland Track. Really friendly and accommodating hosts. The units we stayed in were very small but had everything we needed. Closest accommodation to the track.

We were unable to secure accomm in Fox so we're recommended to this place.
Yes I agree with some of the reviews to say this place is a little dated, but for the price we got everything we needed. We had the twin motel room. It was clean and tidy. The sheets were crisp and superb to sleep in, a very comfortable bed and all items in the kitchen we needed. The proprietors were very friendly and helpful and were happy to receive us late. The rooms are close to the road, but with not a lot of traffic at night this didn't bother us. Seems we only had one tv channel, but we weren't up for a late night anyway. There is no service or wife, but if you needed that urgently you can go to the house to get a connection. This motel is more than fine for just passing through. I can see it would be a god send for cyclists who need a proper bed and a hot shower and the shower was lovely and hot. Thank you for accommodating us when no one else could.

I had an absolutely lovely stay here. Owners were very friendly and welcoming. When our lightbulb needed replacing one of the owners was out within two minutes fixing it good as new. Facilities were lovely and clean and the complimentary soap was a pleasant surprise! The beds were very comfortable and it was nice and quiet. Overall I had a wonderful affordable stay and would definitely stay again :)

We needed a last minute place to stay after a booking mishap and the owners here could not have been more friendly and kind. The rooms are basic but comfortable, equipped with cooking facilities (no restaurants close by so this was handy!). Thanks Pine Grove for helping us out in a time of need!

I stayed in the motel room, number 7, for a single night. Having driven 500 kms that day, I was exhausted and expecting it difficult to find reasonable accommodation that evening.

I drove passed Grove Pines whilst enroute to Fox Glacier and was so glad I decided to pop in.

Unfussy rooms, reasonably priced and good night's sleep.

Yes, it is budget, and the deco is dated. But it was an ideal one night pitstop.

Recommendation: ensure you take your own provisions. There are no shops nearby.

The Pine Grove Motel is very famous among cyclists along the South Island's west coast - it's just about the only accommodation between Fox and Haast so if you're not carrying a tent (or even if you are), everyone stops here.

I rolled in very late one evening after a long day's ride from Whataroa and was greeted with all the warmth and hospitality this part of NZ is famous for. This was by far the best place I stayed because it was everything I needed it to be that night, and a whole lot more. I was in a cabin that was super clean and super comfy, with a lovely and very functional little kitchen (you can buy supplies at reception). What more could you want? Thanks Scotts - hope to see you another time!

Relatively cheap place to stay, but poorly maintained, older style decor, quite tired throughout. The bed was uncomfortable, with old bedding. The lack of a smoke alarm was a very worrying situation, not one that we have struck before, and especially worrying when there was no mobile phone signal, the staff were not on site, but up the road, and the motel is 35km from Fox Glacier township. Not a place we would recommend, nor revisit.

We stayed here for a night after we did the Copland Track as we were exhausted and needed a proper bed. We had a 3 person room with a double and a single bed. The room was clean and cosy. The bathrooms is outside were also the washing machine is. The Kitchen is small and good equipped. We enjoyed our stay.

I booked this on the basis of its price compared to options at Fox Glacier. It is advertised as a "budget motel" and that is a fair description! Perhaps a little too budget on reflection.... Three things troubled me.
1.The lack of screening on all but one window in an area that was extremly full of sand flies. The choice, for our very hot overnight stay, was to be roast to death or bitten to death!
2. Although the studio unit was clean, there were lots of dead sandflies at the corners of the windowsill behind the net curtain.
3. The matches provided for the gas ring were worse than useless! Every time I tried to strike one, the head broke off!
This motel is in the middle of nowhere, you need to bring your provisions for an evening meal. The basic accomodation is adequate but could be so much improved if the small aspects above were addressed.
