Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Loved this place - so full of character & history. Parked caravan out back of hotel for night & enjoyed lovely dinner in hotel & conversations with super friendly staff. Amazing eccentric collection of antique furniture & all sorts of things. Well worth visiting- rooms upstairs also looked amazing

The period furnishings in the accomodation area was like stepping back in time. Loved it. Greeted by staff member Sam who was helpful and very pleasant. Meals were tasty and generous. Shared bathrooms were clean and tidy, with only limited guest rooms there was no problems sharing facilities Will stay again,an amazing experience

Stopped for a coffee and something to eat. The coffee and hot chocolate was great, the pies average, but the lady helping was not friendly at all. Not sure if she is the owner or helping out but the way she treated some customers....not too nice. It is worth a stop though.

This hotel has a very unique cafe. It is furnished with furniture from bygone days. Lots of memorabilia, artwork, artifacts and posters from a time long past. The owners are very welcoming and delightful. Lots on the cafe menu and even if it is not they made a nice veggie sandwich for my wife. I had the fish burger with chips. Both were delightful!

Stopped in on a wet motorcycle trip from Hokitika to Christchurch. Found the dining room very busy with a large Indian group who had cereal and half eaten baby food sachets and clothes all over the tables. Ordered a meal each, the first meal arrived and was eaten before the other two arrived, and only after we asked where it was. When they finally arrived there was a thumb in the mashed potato holding the plate. Not somewhere id recommend eating, maybe worth a look once at all the junk inside but thats all.

Otira Pub is Closed. Visited today and found the place is no longer operating. Such a pity as it looked very unique and in a great location on the Arthur’s pass road. Lots of old memorabilia outside the building. Other people were driving in and then leaving while we were there as they found it closed.

We stopped for a coffee and stayed for nearly an hour. The coffee was the best we had on our 4 day trip and the scones were just freshly made and were still warm. The owner was friendly and then we were fascinated by all the historic photos and historic items in the hotel. It is like a museum.

I stopped at the Stagecoach hotel for a snack on the way to Christchurch.I had an amazing venison, red wine, and bacon pie for just six dollars. The pies here are high quality gourmet style and terrific. The staff member Tammy who served me was really lovely and made me feel welcome. The hotel is a real treasure trove of amazing antiques and curiosities, its almost as if one is stepping back in time to the stagecoach era.I highly recommend this establishment for a stopover breakfast .lunch, or coffee.
