The Courtyard Cottage is a peaceful, self-contained hideaway separate to that of your hosts, with its own private entrance. Tastefully & elegantly furnished, it boasts a cosy lounge, dining area and kitchenette on the ground floor, whilst upstairs, a romantic master bedroom with a four-poster bed, quality brocade bed linen, & an en-suite bathroom stocked with beautiful hand-made toiletries. Here, you will find yourselves right in the heart of Marlborough's wine region, so if the idea of visiting Renwicks’ cellar doors by bike takes your fancy, we can make it happen for you. We promise you don't need to be super fit or confident on a bike to visit them as many can be reached via quiet roads & bike paths. We very much look forward to seeing you. Steve and Jo

We had a fantastic break at Hillsfield House. The self contained accommodation is beautifully appointed with high quality furniture and fittings. The organic shower and body products provided make you fell and smell amazing, breakfast is delicious with homemade preserves and the owners Jo and Steve are so helpful and friendly making our stay a time to remember. Included in the stay at the Cottage is the use of the bikes to explore the numerous vineyards around the area. Thank you Jo & Steve for making our stay so enjoyable.

We stayed in the detached Courtyard cottage, next to Steve & Jo’s house. Its a little home from home with everything you could possibly need for a holiday.

Theres an upstairs bedroom & bathroom suite and downstairs well appointed kitchen with fridge, microwave and sink. And a comfortable sitting room/dining room. It’s beautifully decorated and furnished, so feels like home.

Steve & Jo are very welcoming but respect your privacy, just dropping by with your breakfast in the morning along with their very well behaved dogs! They are always nearby should you have any questions about places to visit etc.

Just so you know, cooked breakfasts are not provided- however, the fruit salad, fresh juice, choices of cereal and croissants were delicious and we certainly didn’t feel deprived!

We stayed for 4 nights.

Supermarket and pubs at Renwick - 5 mins on foot and Blenheim is 15 min, Picton about 30 minutes, Havelock about 30 minutes by car.

At least 12 wineries are within a 2km flat bike ride so this is a perfect location for wine tasting. And fortunately, Jo & Steve also run the “Wine Tours by Bike” company and offer guests free self guided tours. You really don’t need to book another wine tour unless you don’t like cycling (its very flat everywhere!)

We loved our stay here and would thoroughly recommend.

I can't say enough about Jo and Steve and their hospitality. They were amazing people, and even when you know they are busy (running the Wine by Bikes tours business) they will still spend time talking to you. The breakfast they bring in the morning is just amazing, the accommodation is superb (the four- poster bed too!). Plenty of room to put all your things, and an extremely confy lounge to sit in. We have had a relaxing 4 days on our tour around NZ and really didn't want to leave. It was like home from home. We stayed here 2 years ago for 3 nights and it wasn't long enough. Next time we come over (hopefully) we will make it a week. Besides visiting all the wineries, they are so many places to visit- Blenheim, Picton and the Queen Charlotte Track, Nelson and Nelson Lakes National Park (recommended by Steve). For any couple who wants to stay in this area, this is a must.

This was a return visit for us to the cottage. We can depend on Jo and Steve providing perfect accomodation with all their care and attention to detail. Simply beautiful and so peaceful. If you want activity there is plenty of scope for that too. We fully recommend a holiday stay here.

We stayed for 5 amazing days.
The accommodation was beautiful and roomy, with kitchen and living room downstairs and large bedroom upstairs. There are two bathrooms (one upstairs, one downstairs).
Accommodation is separate from the main house.
It is well insulated, so warm and quiet.
There is a heat pump/air-conditioner in the lounge (we didn't need it, but may be handy).

Location is quiet and pretty (semi-rural), but convenient location (close to Renwick shops which includes a supermarket).

Jo and Steve are awesome. Very friendly and helpful without being imposing. We couldn't of asked for better hosts. Just really nice people!

Breakfast was included and was plentiful and delicious. Better than expected.

We made good use of the bikes as there are several wineries very close by.

We would love to stay again in the future, and would highly recommend to others.

We haven't stayed in many B&B's probably because we normally travel with our boys. This B&B's set the bar very high. Jo and Steve have thought of everything from nightlights to a magnifying make up mirror and there's 2 bathrooms! Breakfast was fabulous and when we returned from our wine tour there was fruit and cake waiting for us. This accommodation is quiet, clean, restful and set amongst some of the best vineyards in the world. Steve and Jo also run Wine Tour by Bike so we got to use the bikes as part of our stay which we really enjoyed. I would definitely stay here again.

Hillsfield House is a beautiful and private accommodation conveniently located in wine country. Jo and Steve were friendly gracious hosts who paid attention to detail and provided helpful information about their area and wineries. They have bikes available for touring the wineries and provide lots of information about those wineries. Breakfast was elegantly provided in our personal space and was delicious. Highly recommend this experience. Great choice!

Hillsfield House is the most wonderful place to stay. It is beautifully appointed, and the owners are simply wonderful people. This picture perfect cottage is set in manicured grounds. The bedding is luxurious and very comfortable, the bathroom has a plethora of products in which to indulge and the breakfast is delicious. We took the opportunity to do a self guided bike tour around the vineyards and had a fantastic day. It is perfectly flat so was no effort at all. We even had our purchases picked up for us by the owner, Steve. Thank you so very much Jo and Steve (and Willow and Lee-Ah) for the best start ever to a holiday.

What a fantastic place - we stayed two nights on our five week tour. Lovely comfortable, spacious house with everything you could need and with amazing hosts who look after your every need. Added bonus of using the bikes (good quality with proper saddles!) to get around the vineyards for wine tasting.

A wonderful stay in an amazing location.

A home away from home. Interior is decorated beautifully and very clean. Continental breakfast is ample and presentation is lovely. All your needs are catered for. Jo and Steve are the perfect hosts. We felt so at home, we could have stayed much longer. Just 10 minutes from Blenheim.

What are your check in & Check out times
Answer from Winetoursbybike
Renwick, New Zealand18 contributions2 helpful votes
Hiya, it was wonderful to hear from you. Our check in time is 2.30pm and check-out is 10.00am. If you are by chance flying into the region on an early flight and arriving before check in time, you are very welcome to come straight out to our place, park your car, go out on our bikes to have some lunch and then come back at check in time. If you have your own car and would prefer to use your time to see the area instead before checking in, we are here to help with suggestions for you as to where you might like to go :-) Take care. Cheers Jo

Is this BnB accessible if you don’t have a car? If so, what’s the best way to get there?
Answer from Winetoursbybike
Renwick, New Zealand18 contributions2 helpful votes
Hiya, thank you for your question :-) As rightly said below, if coming on the ferry from Picton, we would recommend getting a shuttle as this will be much cheaper than a taxi, and we can help you get one organised, no problem at all. If coming into the airport, we are only a 5 minute drive from there and could come and collect you :-) If coming into Blenheim either on the train or by bus from Christchurch or Kaikoura, again, we could arrange a shuttle to collect you and bring you out here, if coming from Nelson, get the bus to stop in Renwick, and we could collect you from the bus stop there :-) Hope this helps and we would love to see you. Cheers Steve and Jo - Owners of Hillsfield House
