We visited BigSky as part of our Alps to Ocean bike ride. The day we arrived in Omarama was a real shocker. We arrived half an hour before check-in totally soaked and freezing. Jill figured that would be the case and had the rooms ready for an early check-in which saved the day. She was so considerate and came by later to make sure we were settled in. Our room had a great lay out with a separate sitting area closed off from the bed room. Everything was totally modern, new and spotless. There's a huge fridge and dishwasher so it would be an ideal location for a multi-day stay if required. The hotel is a couple of blocks from the highway and the pub so there was no noise. There is on site parking for cars or bikes as well as laundry facilities. Like I said, top marks for the facilities and manager.

Jill is very friendly and Covid restrictions in place was very reassuring on arrival
A lovely comfortable room, nicely decorated and I was very excited to see that BigSky is environmentally friendly with no plastic, glass milk bottle and recycling centre good BigSky.
Omarama has a lot to offer so bring the family.
Thanks Jill

We stayed 2 nights at this motel at $170/night for 2 in a studio unit. On the second day, our unit was NOT serviced, apart from replacement towels left in a plastic bag on a chair outside the door! There were no extra blankets for the bed on a very cold night! The air conditioning unit was relatively noisy so this was not an option overnight. To recap, for what we received, we consider this motel was overpriced, compared to the many other motels we stayed in during our 2 week tour of the South Island.

Thank you for your review. I don't know who you are but when you checked in you are asked if you would like your room serviced, you obviously didn't but we left you fresh towels anyway... Also, we don't have any rooms available at $170 per night.

Probably the best motel in NZ. Modern & comfortable and clean. Great beds. Shower is hot and lots of water. A great stop on the A2O. Secure bike sheds and bike tools to make tweaks to the bikes. Highly recommended.

Huge thank you to Hank and Kay for assisting us during our unexpected emergency layover in Omarama. The stay at BigSky was comfortable and a much needed respite for our most memorable start to a holiday yet (think flight cancellations, unplanned road trip, broken down car, flooding, road closure). Hank went the extra mile to check on us, offer help and give us lifts into town. The rooms are super clean, new and cosy. Kitchen is well equipped and love the Manuka toiletries provided.

We are a family of 4 travelling (mum, 2 teens and a child) and managed to squeeze in one room with the aid of the double sofa bed. After arriving wet and cold on a rainy winter night when our car broke down, the room was most inviting. Next time we visit this part of NZ, will definitely stop by again.

Thanks
Natalie

Small but very spacious, new, clean and modern!
Very lovely owner, had the room warm and everything ready for the time frame we said we were coming in. Definitely recommend and will be going back. Location is out of the main area but It is such a small place the drive is nothing for great quality.

We had a nice overnight stay at the Big Sky, a small unpretentious motel style accommodation. Located on a quiet backstreet in Omarama, it was only a pleasant 5-10 min walk into the shops and cafes. There is free parking in the somewhat tight little parking area. The friendly hosts provided a welcome reception and we were quickly checked into our room, a basic 1-bedroom apartment with small kitchenette. The room was quite cozy, but a bit small for the 3 of us (it would be suitable for 2). With 2 of us in the bedroom and 1 sleeping on the couch. Everything was clean and comfortable and no-frills. We had a good stay but thought it was a bit overpriced for what it was. We would stay here again given the chance and recommend it to other travelers.

Hank and Kaye are real salt of the earth decent and genuine people. They work hard to provide clean, comfortable and welcoming accomodation with lots of friendly conversation. The Bigsky motel is quiet, peaceful and feels safe! Great location, just a short stroll to restaurants, cafes the four square etc. We were offered bikes, fishing gear and there is an outdoor bbq area, laundry and there is service/help whenever you need it. We had a fabulous handful of days here and can't recommend Bigsky enough to those passing through Omarama. Thanks Hank and Kaye, we will be back, all the best

I was SO happy BigSky had a room available for us. The rooms were lovely and they even give you a little bottle of fresh milk when you check in - so cute! The room was clean and comforable and they even had A/C (not too common in NZ) The hosts were wonderful and I wanted to take their sweet little dog home with us. I would stay again in a heartbeat! I neglected to read the sign in the room about keeping the windows closed at night - don't make the same mistake, or you'll have some bugs to keep you company.

A lovely motel with fabulous hosts. The only problem is that the bed is rock hard. They leave the electric blankets on in summer so on a hard bed you can feel the wires. They really need memory foam topper pads. My back really hurt each morning and after four nights I had had more than enough. I discussed the issue with the managers and they had no solutions available to me as the owner had not provided any. I only hope he will now. If they put topper pads on the bed I wouldn't stay anywhere else!

Thank you for your review. You need to appreciate that we must cater for everybody's needs so everybody has a choice whether they use the electric blanket on a cool night or not. The beds are of the best commercial hotel standard manufactured in Christchurch.
