We didnt stay at the Hampden, but we ate there (just as we did 4 years ago) and it was a bloody beauty of a feed. We were astounded at how the kitchen staff just kept cool and focused while the diners came through the door in an endless line. They never got flustered and the quality of the kai never suffered. They were still smiling when we left (with very full tummies). Bloody amazing, massive feeds.
Went to order the steak and lambshanks. Informed after getting to front of queue that out of steak. Went back to table for renewed instructions. Thankfully queue had only grown by two. Order chicken schnitzel and lambshanks. An hour later an apologetic fill in cook arrived at the table to inform us they had No lambshanks. Ffs they couldn’t even provide comfort it’s not going to take another hour for the replacement fish and chips! Very generous in not worrying about the additional $2 cost of the fish and chips. Unfortunately my preliminary investigation revealed that there aren’t many other evening meal options in Murchison. Would have been nice of them to throw us a garlic bread or something to help pass the nearly two hours waiting!!! The fish and chips was less than cheap takeaway quality and the chicken schnitzel was cardboard in batter. Unlike Arnie WE WONT BE BACK!…
Nicely cooked lamb shanks and bangers and mash. Absolutely just the ticket after a long day on the road. Fairly basic surroundings, but friendly and helpful staff and great no-nonsense food and a very good pot of tea. Recommended.
A small group of us stayed the night, we had a basic dinner there which we all enjoyed, the Atmosphere was relaxed, quite a few locals in attendance. the room although older were clean, heaters and ensuites in our rooms. A fun night. Recommended
As the only place in town that does evening meals, the Pub prices are very high and the food is awful, lots of deep fried food, special of the day looked like a pre made plate that was then microwaved. The burger I had was awful and gave me a grumbly stomach.
