Picnic Creek Bed & Breakfast, Clyde, Central Otago, New Zealand Low, sleek and showcasing the best of Central Otago architecture. Picnic Creek Bed and Breakfast is Wendy and 'Jacko' Jack's dream home purpose-built to share with others. Proponents of less is more, Wendy and Jacko have created a living space that would leave television's Gavin McLeod, presenter of 'Grand Designs', grasping for superlatives. On entering the reception foyer the most striking feature is glass. Wall to wall, floor to ceiling. A frameless window drawing the eye across manicured lawn to a quarter acre duck pond and beyond that, the Cairnmuir and Dunstan Ranges. Off the foyer runs the guest wing of three spacious bedrooms each with its own, fully tiled ensuite; one of which includes a deep, luxurious bath. All ensuites have under floor heating. Designed to capture all day sun, with extended eaves giving necessary shade when the sun is at its highest, each guest room has multi-track sliding doors that literally open up two thirds the length of the room to bring the outdoors in. During cooler months the gas-filled double glazing of these same doors helps guarantee a cosy night's sleep. Guests are welcome to join Wendy and Jacko in the lounge-kitchen; possibly the most stunning feature of their home where 'indoor - outdoor flow' is taken to its ultimate conclusion. Floor to ceiling multi-track doors at opposite ends of the lounge slide back to create maximum through flow of occupants and breeze; a prerequisite for Central Otago summers. At one side, the views. At the other, the large, sheltered courtyard for alfresco dining. And for those guests seeking privacy there's a second lounge that would do any five star accommodation proud. Access to Picnic Creek Bed & Breakfast is off Earnscleugh Road or direct from the Centennial Walkway which follows the banks of the Clutha and is often used as an alternative route to cycling or walking the Otago Central Rail Trail between Clyde and Alexandra.

Great spot for a B & B. Wendy & Jacko great hosts - excellent breakfast with beautiful views, couldn't fault this accommodation . Luxury linen, rooms very well appointed, Wi-Fi worked well. But we did have trouble with direct deposit from our Australian Bank account, a bit embarrassing when we found out it hadn't happened, but finally got it sorted. Would take cash next time.

This modern home was purpose built to have 3 rooms off to one side of the house, The house is a minimalist modern design, but is very comfortable, with lots of light and windows. The room I stayed in was also tastefully done and more luxurious than other places in NZ. Since Clyde is a very small town, I didn't expect this to be as modern as it was.
I stayed 2 nights before starting the Central Otago Rail Trail. If you don't have a car, it can be isolating--since there are lots of wineries and other things to see in the area. But if you have a vehicle, it is fine. You can walk to town for dinner (15 minutes, but sometimes on road, not path), but options are limited. The hosts will drive you and pick you up--which is a good option.
The location sits above town and has a nice view. You can also watch the owners play with the dog--who will tirelessly retrieve balls--or you can play with him yourself.
The wifi was a bit iffy in the rooms, but worked fine in the main house. Overall, this is a good place to stay, but be forewarned: cash or direct NZ deposit only!

We were competing at Highland Park Motorsport circuit and could not have chosen a better place to stay. About 20 minutes drive from the track, and it is a beautiful drive, Jacko and Wendy looked after us so well, we felt like family. Wonderful rooms with ensuite each were fantastic and great breakfast each morning. The property is stunningly gorgeous and well maintained. They have an avid interest in Motorsport and were invaluable in their assistance. Highly recommend for all fellow racers or spectators

Booked with Wendy for an overnight stay. The suits have amazing views and are very warm and the bed was very comfortable. In the morning a fully cooked breakfast was served in the dinning room and was excellent.

Wendy came and picked us up after we returned our bicycles in Clyde and dropped us back in Clyde the following morning. Much appreciated. The accommodation was really superb. Nice comfortable bed and amenties. Great to be able to sit outside and watch the sun go down over the mountains in the evening with a local beer & wine.

Wendy and Jacko are great hosts and very accommodating. They run a very clean B and B on new on new premises, with a great view out on to dam and mountain. Only five mins from historic Clyde. Highly recommend this place for a relaxing, affordable and friendly stay.

Friendly greeting on arrival from Wendy. Clean and welcoming ensuite room with wide view of surrounding countryside. Wendy drove us into Clyde for dinner but it was a lovely evening so we walked "home" even though Wendy was happy to pick us up. It is not far to either walk or cycle into Clyde. A lovely cooked breakfast set us up well for the first day of our ride along the Otago Rail Trail. Recommend that s B&B

What a gorgeous place to stay in such a beautiful location. Tranquility, stunning grounds, beautifully appointed rooms and Wendy and Jacko were excellent hosts. Would love to stay again! Easy walking or riding distance from the town centre of Clyde and a great start to our adventure on the Otago Rail Trail.

Our host Wendy at Picnic Creek B & B was superb. A beautiful setting with 2 acres of gardens & lawn overlooking a a lovely district. The home is modern with all facilities and "Max" the dog is a gem.We spent 3 nights there over Easter and although we had to travel 73klms to our Wanaka Airshow we were well cared for at Picnic Creek B & B.

We stayed for three nights and it was perfect. The views, the peacefulness, the luxury bedroom, linen, ensuite and the great hostess Wendy ticked all the right boxes. The breakfasts were great and Wendy's dog Max entertained us for hours, and we him. We were so sad when it was time to return home, we wanted to stay forever. We would highly recommend Picnic Creek; great value for money and an overall fantastic experience.
