Four of us stayed at The Workshop before starting the Trail. What a lovely place and we were regally attended to by the owners Lynne and Barry. On arriving, the fridge was full of what we needed for our early start the following day and everything we could have wanted was available.

It's quirky too in its design and a comfortable sitting room allowed our group to relax listening to some good music choices provided.

It's a minute or two from Clyde's Main Street with a few restaurants and cafes at hand.

It's ideal for a night or two and thanks to the owners.

We stayed here before heading off to do the rail trail. Lyne & Barry were lovely hosts, and let us leave our car for a few days. Being the low season we had the place to ourselves.
It's really quirky but welcoming and comfy.
We'd certainly recommend it.

Had a 2 night stay here and our hosts were so accommodating. We had lovely rooms and the place was very clean and tidy. The level of attention was great and they made us feel very welcome and gave us plenty of advice and also tips on things do in the region. I loved the homely feel to the place, a God continental breakfast was provided each morning which started us off well. If you are staying in Clyde or doing the rail trail look up The Workshops. We will be back to stay for sure.

we stayed 2 nights at The Workshops. The first night prior to starting the Roxburgh Gorge/Clutha Gold cycle trails and the second after completing trial and before starting the Otago Central Rail trial. The accommodation was excellent, clean and spacious. Nice breakfast. Even got a load of washing done.

We stayed at The Workshops for one night. The owner was great and very accommodating for us at short notice, we had called from the end of the drive to check if they had rooms available.
The rooms were clean and spacious and it was a real advantage to have the kitchen, lounge and outdoor area available so that we could relax with a glass of wine in the sun or curl up on the couch and read a book if we wanted.

We stayed here before starting the Otago Central Rail Trail. The place certainly has a lot of character, having been converted from some sort of truck workshop, with strange bits of metal here and there, but manages to be very comfortable anyway. Shared facilities, but we had the place to ourselves so didn't have to share with anyone else. We loved the bathroom layout, the bed was firm and comfortable, and the lounge had a warm fire. (Although it was March, warm and sunny during the day with temperatures in the mid to high 20s, the mornings were decidedly frosty). Location handy to the start of the Clyde-Alexandra riverside track (an attractive alternative to the rail trail) and just a few minutes walk to the centre of Clyde. The owners were friendly and helpful too.

This is uniquely different accomodation. The Workshops have been converted from a repair workshop into great accomodation. It is quirky and different from anything else we have stayed in during our travels. The rooms are spacious and although without on-suite the bathrooms are closeby and convenient. The lounge and kitchen areas are full of historical artifacts and local memorabilia, A continential breakfast is available (cost NZ$10). We found it more economical and convenient to walk to the local store and buy our own breakfast cereal, milk and juice.
We stayed for two nights and would certainly stay there again

Wonderfully imaginatively converted workshops, providing luxury, comfortable bedrooms (with beds suitable for Europeans - not the usual marshmallow NZ beds). Large lounge full of engineering and musical memorabilia in which a roaring wood fire stove was lit to dry us out after our final, very wet day on the rail trail. Bathrooms are state of the art and very attractive.
Upstairs, there is a large games room with a pool table, table tennis, darts and lots of other board games - a great place for a wet evening's entertainment.
Thoiuroughly recommended.

I found this place by browsing online. The website looked good and I wasn't disappointed when I arrived either. Well placed for accessing the rail trail and other tracks and an easy stroll to amenities. Very welcoming hosts and comfy, quirky accommodation that was also nice and warm - perfect for a mid winter break. The owners have done a great job of converting an old workshop/garage and have left a lot of original features in place. I would highly recommended staying here. Plenty of communal space and everything was kept very clean. Would definately stay here again.

"If traveling as a couple you may want to request a room upstairs (the hosts would probably put you there anyway) as you can hear the upstairs movements (walking) from the downstairs rooms. If doing the Otago Rail Trail also note it is about 2km with slight uphills from the Trail head, so if you are wanting to save your energy for the trail you may want to arrange transport."
