We had a wonderful two night mid-week package at the Chateau recently. This included daily buffet breakfast with an excellent and wide variety of choices, including the best scrambled egg I've ever encountered in a buffet (and have stayed in quite a few 4 and 5-star hotels all over Aus.) Dinner was excellent too and we appreciated their dress code. Nice to have to dress up a bit. Great walks in the area which we made lots of use of in the superb weather. My only slight negative was the complimentary bottle of sparkling wine. Very pleasant but, please let's support the local economy and make it a NZ wine. I'm sure we shall be back. We've been highly recommending to all our friends and family.
A glorious step back in time to the splendor of the 1920s. (The accommodation was built in 1929. ) Straight away one gets an impression of luxury, style & class. A high tea is available around 4pm with a selection of teas and yummy cucumber sandwiches The dining experience was superb. The staff were friendly accommodating and quick with service. A credit to the facility. The dining experience was of a michellin 5 star quality. Breakfast in the dining room was excellent. There was a vast & ample selection of food available. The rooms were tastefully furnished with a bath. A highlight of our stay was a special happy birthday treat delivered to our room for my wife!! A attendant with a baggage trolley assisted us with checkout. Treat yourself! You wont regret it.
We really enjoyed our stay. Excellent value for money. The food was delicious. Helpful staff. Lovely hotel and a very comfortable room. The Chateau is in an amazing setting. Will return in the Winter season
An efficient check in and a room which was clean but which showed a tiredness, chipped bath, cracked shower linings and suffering from the rigors of use, bed was comfortable, TV pretty primitive with no sky! Breakfast and dinner meals were of a good standard and served efficiently by staff recruited from off shore. Two matters of concern for me, firstly the table service in the lounge bar was poor with a lack of attention to those requiring a top up and not direct purchasing from the bar permitted, secondly meals were being served in extra dining facilities around the lounge with meals being carried uncovered from the main dining rood to guests. In a pandemic this appeared to be unacceptable and cloches should have been used. As a number of the guests were elderly the lounge chairs -although comfortable- were very low and difficult for some patrons, including myself to sit and stand may be consideration could be given to updating with elderly ease of access in mind. Having said that we enjoyed our stay and would be keen to return,…
The hotel is magnificent from a distance, but up close it is in desperate need of a tart up. Everything is just a bit old and faded. The curtains in the dining room either have not been hung properly or are missing a couple of hooks because they didn't hang well, and the cream fabric to each side makes the whole window dressing look cheap. The beautiful picture window looking out onto the mountain was dirty, and remained dirty throughout my stay. The bathroom in my room needed a complete reno, very dated and tired - chipped enamel on the bath, scratched mirror frame, nasty plastic tissue dispenser. The bed was comfortable but the carpet was stained, there was no full length mirror (despite there being several possible spaces for one) and the television only had a handful of channels tuned in (no Sky). It was all a little disappointing. The hotel's saving grace is its kitchen - the meals I had were superb. I ate in the formal dining room the first evening, had high tea the following day and a meal in the lounge. Delicious, well presented and great service. Would go back for the food, but not for the hotel.…
