Elderly couple are friendly. Tea coffee facilities in room, unusual really old sort of jug - or think it was a jug. Coffee stuck to bottom of jar when tipped upside down, didn't dare look at teabags. Room was dated, no matched linen, towels thin, an old used soap in shower - luckly we had our own. Breakfast...kitchen needed good clean. No lock on bedroom door, lovely view but window frames needed cleaning. Not really worth $100 charged.

Agree with the other reviewers. This place is well overdue a refurb. It's basically a large family home (no locks on bedroom doors, remnants of stickers from when it was a kids bedroom, decor from the 70s) and though the owners are friendly and nice, they clearly don't see the issues. Bedding is mismatched, old and worn. Towels the same. Wifi doesn't reach upstairs. Rooms on the grubby side. If you are expecting dated bach style digs, it's ok. But at $100 a night, it's not really.

The hostess is a very nice polite little old lady but she should give up this business before she poisons somebody. The kitchen is absolutely filthy, the whole house smelled of old age, the towels are so thin that I would not clean my car with them. The carpets are stained, the ensuite bathroom in our room was so grubby that we would not shower in there. It was only barely fit to go to the toilet in there. Dirty bare feet do not improve the ambience one iota. the outside is littered with old appliances, junk and an old toilet pan. We said that we didn't have time for breakfast as we wanted to get away as soon as possible. We have made a pact that if we ever walk into a place with these standards again we will walk out immediately. We cannot say a good word for this place and for those who say it is a home away from home all we can say is that your standards are way below ours. The internet connection does not work unless you are sitting in the lounge breathing in the fumes.

Whilst the hosts were very friendly and willing to offer advice we found the accommodation in need of updating. The bed was comfortable and the views lovely but the overall experience not what we had experienced in previous accommodation on our tour of NZ

I have to confess to not staying in B&B's often, but this one was located in a place I wanted to be. Throughout the initial (email) arrangements to the eventual greeting at the door, everything was very friendly and welcoming. The lodge itself is an older two story home, and has all the hallmarks of being one. However, the room was delightful, and offered a superb view of the surrounding countrside. Of course, being located on a hill helped. Absolute fantastic value for money. If you plan a trip to Kawau Island, park in a side street at Sandspit. Otherwise it costs you the earth. Likewise, if on a budget, consider aticket just to Mansion Bay. The mail triup is good and very informative. However, you do almost the same thing (and more) on the return trip, just without the comentary, and less expensive.
