Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Don’t be swayed by the front of the hotel it’s in an awful part of Auckland not safe to go outside. The lobby is very dated, the only lift takes ages to work and the room was disgusting. We were on a one night stop over for the airport got no sleep at all due to police helicopters constantly circling through the night, the only positive was that the staff were very polite.
Never again would I ever book at this place, booked for three night on the day of check in while we were literally waiting nearby at the park exhausted and just looking forward to have a shower and rest as we just drove from wellington. Get an email from booking.com saying to update my credit card details so payment can go through, I called the hotel straight away to sort it out and found out my booking has been cancelled due to my credit card been blocked and had the nerve to lie and say that they called me so many times and I didn't answer. Person I spoke to was so unprofessional didn't have the decency to apologise and said everything was my fault and they are fully booked and gave my room to someone else. I have travelled everywhere for work so many years and not once have I ever experienced anything like this. I was in shock and disgusted by his behavior that I just drove all the way back to Wellington and cancelled our whole trip.…
Almost dead. Website photos are not actual. Should be two stars. Seems really run down. There are families staying long term with some rubbish around. Thin walls with half balcony which reduces privacy.
On Saturday my partner and arrived to stay at this property. We arrived early, 1.15pm, and asked if we could check in then so that we could make our way into the CBD to then catch the public transport to a concert that night. The staff member advised that check-in was not possible until at least 2pm, which we were okay with. Just after 2pm we returned to the property to complete check-in. We were assigned room 125, then proceeded to the room and upon entry found the following: - The two windows wide open (the bottom window was falling out and could only just be secured and closed) - The heat-pump was on full, obviously trying to remove some of the odour from the room - One light working in the room. Lights above the bed had bulbs removed and looked faulty - Bedspread covered with stains - Carpet was damp in parts and smelt musty - Holes in the walls in the bathroom - Part of the wall rotten and swollen from water - Toilet brush laying on the floor behind the bowl - The mirror missing from the wall - The door to the bathroom covered in black smudges and stains The odour in the room was enough to make me gag, musty and unclean. I returned to the reception and asked why we had been provided with the ‘room from hell’. I explained to the staff member (Alok) that this room didn’t look anything like what we had booked and was a clear misrepresentation. I requested another room and was given a swipe card to look at room 111. This room was exactly the same, however it did have the mirror. After attending the concert we returned to the Hotel just before midnight. I pulled back the bedding to find black hair and stains on the sheets. It looked as if the sheets hadn’t been cleaned between the room occupancy. I went back to reception and asked again for another room, which was still not available. I then asked for clean sheets and a vacuum so that we could at least get some sleep. At this point the staff member offered a refund for the room if I left and didn’t complain to anyone. It was now that I started to film him on my camera as I could see this was going to escalate. Alok said he felt threatened and then telephoned 111. The police answered and told him to stop wasting their time, that I was within my rights to record him, they then hung up. Alok then offered us both free breakfast from their restaurant. I declined this offer, stating that I wasn’t even prepared to brush my teeth in his bathroom so why would I want to eat from their restaurant? Alok said that if we were to stay in the room then he would need my cell phone as security and that I would not be allowed to upload any photos, videos or comments to the internet. I told him this was unacceptable and not how things were done in NZ. I continued to film Alok and he became uneasy. Alok said that their were new owners, that they were short staffed and that it was my problem for booking a ‘Budget Studio’. He continually asked me not to post any reviews online or to report the hotel. He then advised that sheets had been delivered to our room. It was at this point (around 1am) that I couldn’t take anymore. My partner and I then tried desperately to find alternative accommodation, with no luck. We then started our drive home, arriving at 4am. I’ve travelled extensively around the world and here in NZ. This hotel has to be the worst that I have ever come across. It is unsanitary, poorly maintained, stinks and needs to be condemned. I have videos of the room we were given. Please let me know if you would like to see them. This morning I lodged a complaint with the Auckland City Council.…
Worse place ever! Room stated tv and phone this room 212 has either. Walls were dirty, shower door wouldn’t close. Smelt like rooms are never aired. Bar staff couldn’t even understand what we were asking for. Restaurant never opened.
This is a budget hotel a Scottish short drive from Auckland airport, with a 24 hour reception. The hotel looks tired, the lift is not only super slow, it's also carpeted on the walls and roof with bright red carpet! But - and very importantly - the bed was really comfortable - and the towels were the fluffiest I've ever encountered.
Very noisey corridor with paper thin walls. Could hear arguments and yelling during the night. Room had an odd smell, although was clean. Very outdated decor. Shower was horrendous and literally burnt myself - went from cold to scalding hot without warning. Ended up having to wash using a flannel and soapy water in the bathroom sink.
Decided to book this accommodation as needed self-catering facilities for the week in Auckland with my son who was attending a course during the day. Upon arrival we were given the key to a room which had no cooking facilities and was not the 'family unit' that had been agreed via email. . Was given another room with a very poorly equipped kitchen. No sharp knives, minimal plates, no pans for cooking, no tea towels to dry dishes, no chopping board. The one bedside lamp had no light bulb in it and the lamp shade was battered and ripped. Admittedly the room was clean, however there were holes in the walls all over the place. There was a very flimsy, dirty blanket on my bed out in the living area. Not very pleasant and the bed had been made very poorly. It seems that the Allenby may be used as emergency housing. Our neighbours were noisy - with one lot revving up their car with very loud music at 5 a.m. just about every morning. The first night there was a heated argument outside between a man and a woman at 1.20 a.m. which went on for a while. Mid week a couple arrived about 4 a.m. to the room next to ours and you could hear them through the walls talking and then subsequently having sex. We saw one morning a girl getting out of a car in her pyjamas and dressing gown - looked like she had spent the night in the car and was now going into a unit to have breakfast/shower. I paid $ 800 for 5 nights for this accommodation which I thought a total rip off given the state of the place. There's no comfy seating - you sit at the table or on the bed. Although it's non smoking there were cigarette butts on the deck of our unit. The fact that initially we were given a room I had not agreed to was a worry too. I know they are renovating and the staff are quite lovely and try to help out but I did request tea towels on the first night which never arrived. I ended up buying tea towels, a sharp knife, washing up liquid and Chux myself. If you are renovating then the prices need to reflect that as this place is not up to standard. And guests shouldn't have to buy the basics. The fridge was tiny for a family unit that is supposed to accommodate 4 people too. Parking is very ample which is a bonus in Auckland. The biggest joke is security with x 2 gates that are supposed to be operated by guests with their room key. Lots of times they weren't working and several times people who were not guests were waiting to be let in. The outside doors to the buildings are not secure either and even though it says access by room key it's not true. They don't have any locks. Our room had an interconnecting door which was firmly locked although the couple who arrived midweek decided to give it a good go at 4 a.m. which woke me up as I thought we were under attack. And don't go in the lift. It's just not worth it. There is a chair in the lift which I thought was odd at the time but realised it's because you could be some time in there!!…
The warm an friendly staff at reception are awesome . Very helpful. The decor of reception is brilliant.. The rooms are very clean . HRV in rooms is just awesome. House keeping staff very helpful an always ready to help . Bathrooms are clean .. Towels an linen are changed everyday .. was an awesome weekend with friends . Will be back .. nice n convenient location handy to malls an motorway.. thanks Allenby ..
The room need a good makeover. Lights not working and no blankets on the bed. Had to ask twice before anything was done about it. Stepped onto the balcony and was greeted by a cloud of cigarette smoke from the unit below despite it being a non-smoking establishment. Noisy at night with music beating and domestic arguments in the hallway.Bar and restaurant were expensive with nothing to write home about.
