Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was was looking for a modern but basic place to stay before my early flight out of Auckland. As rooms were still available online the day I was checking in, I decided I would just book direct with reception when I got there. When I arrived (approx 9:45pm) the door was locked and was reluctantly opened by the receptionist. Although the rate advertised on line was $49 per room, she proceeded to tell me that it would be $79 plus a late fee of $15! As there is an internet terminal near the door I logged in there and booked myself in at the lower rate. She still persisted in charging me $15 albeit in vain.

With the check in drama over, I was very pleased to find the room just as I'd hoped, especially for that price. The fittings in the bathroom are excellent. The room is tiny but that suits me fine. I found everything to be very clean, even though the surrounding area feels quite deserted (its located in an industrial estate). Also in my photos you'll see an unusual exterior lock on the bathroom door. This was due to the adjoining(?) door to the next room.

Less 15 minutes by hired car to the airport this turned out to be a pleasant surprise despite the lack of hospitality.

This place is a dive. It's more like a bad backpackers than a motel, with rooms off a long central corridor, dingy shared kitchen, etc. Our room was a pretty small studio although there was a single bedroom as well so at least we could dump our stuff in there. Dirty bathroom with a "Fire Door" that must have led to an adjoining room originally which was locked and had tape around it to seal it for some reason. Also an external lock on the bathroom door leading into the room - what for??? The room smelt of cigarette smoke and there was a plastic bag covering the smoke alarm - presumably the previous guest had been smoking in the room. Duvet inner but no cover on it, no facecloths, but at least the bed was clean and comfortable. Food splattered on the wall in the kitchenette area, no knives, no plug to wash dishes, etc. - extremely limited, even for a kitchenette. Then the fire alarm went off for a few seconds at 5am - seemed like a false alarm so I ignored it. Best part was possibly the excellent water pressure in the shower. The whole place felt dingy, unsafe and just a tad dodgy. For $109 for one night, there are heaps of better places to stay in Auckland. The worst place I have ever stayed either in NZ or overseas.

We stayed on the Friday and Sunday night on our visit to Auckland and family reunion in Tirau. The staff were helpful and accommodating with our booking. We found it a little hard to find in the dark as they are down a driveway in an Industrial Area. WE would gladly stay here again.
