Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Was booked here on a work trip and really wish I hadn’t been. The room smelt musty when I walked in, the bed was uncomfortable, the cutlery in the drawer had sticky stuff on it, and the toilet seat also required a clean before use. Room was also very loud - could hear all the road noise, and walls were so thin I could hear the person in the adjoining room plugging a plug into the socket.

Very welcoming reception and our room was spotless. Beds warm and comfy. Kitchenette was perfect. Highly recommend The Wayfarer. Food across the road at Beachcomber was delicious too! Very leased me chose to stay there.

The service was outstanding. The lovely lady at the desk was accommodating and very friendly. I appreciate good ole friendly service.. my room was clean, particularly the bathroom. I arrived after a long day of travelling and whilst it looks as though the motel is under construction the room was comfortable, warm and clean inside.

The operator was friendly but the unit was awful. The carpet is filthy. In the bathroom and toilet and shower all the corners are full of filth and mould etc. Everything is VERY worn and very old. The beds were fine and the bedding clean. The whole complex needs a complete refurbish, including the asphalt paving which is full of holes etc.

Stopped for 1 night and had a good nights sleep, Comfortable bed with lovely sheets, great hot shower and fluffy towels. The bathroom floor did look like it could do with a good clean and the internet is terrible. We could hear road noise and in the morning could hear people moving around upstairs. It is an older style motel but the price reflects this.

Location is the only redeeming quality. I should have read the other reviews before I booked. Cleanliness: mouldy smell in the bedroom, bedroom carpet felt tacky underfoot, oven knobs sticky with food residue. Maintenance issues: dining table rickety, front door lock insecure.

The lady on reception was friendly and check in was easy. I drove round to the room to find a pillar in the way of my allocated car park. Not a problem until a car parked opposite me and a truck needed to get through. The room was awful. The dishes in the cupboard had old food attached. The bathroom was dirty, I mean really dirty and included the bonus feature of a spider nest on the window. The heater was not adequate for the cold ( and finding a plug for it involved serious furniture rearranging). I worked my way through the things, cleaned the dishes, bought food I could eat without using too many pans etc. Then we get to the noise. Not only did it seem that the water tank for everyone was in my room but you could hear everything in the rooms around, including people using the toilet. Just when I thought I’d made it through, I found the towel I had just dried my hair with was covered in mould. Stay somewhere else.

The rooms and beds are comfortable in what is a typical, standard (and slightly dated) NZ motel. Location quite good for walking into town, which is a limited experience! Staff were really helpful. Could be rather noisy.

I was charged very much a premium for my stay. So at the very least I would expect there there would be lights in my room. Yes, I said lights... The lighting circuits have failed for whatever reason, so there is no lights in the toilet, and no lights in the living area with the exception of a very illegally wired light that has been home-handyman'd into the power circuit of the room. This is illegal by the way... The shower was an absolute disgrace - I'm guessing the cleaner just "forgot" to clean it - the wand soap was open on the window ledge and the room was like an oven. I did find a fan in the room, lucky as an electrical contractor, I had an extension lead with me and was able to plug it into a powerpoint without losing the only light in the room. This room was a disgrace.
