Very outdated interior and exterior, feels like you're back in the 90s . Comfortable bed and pillow. Fairly clean (cobwebs in corners, behind doors and harder to reach areas).
Separate kitchen with dining table.
Great location, across the road from playground and visitors information. Quick stroll to town centre

The unit was around 1970's era, it was spotless, tidy, and the owner cleaned the unit every day we stayed. This is something that hadn't happened in 3 of our 4 stays elsewhere in Northland.
The owner was very pleasant and helpful. We needed to do some washing when we arrived and she was so helpful it made everything easy.
The bed and pillows were very comfortable and we had 3 good sleeps.
Thank you for the great stay!

The location is described as the most central in town. I would agree with that as it's just a short walk to Te Ahu. The photos are a bit misleading but they always look better than reality. We found the overall impression on arriving as a bit cold and uninviting. The motel is quite old but seems well maintained and we liked the separate kitchen area. It was ok for an overnight stay after a long drive but we were not attracted to stay longer.

Seen their advert for a two night stay and trip to Cape Reinga, ideal we thought.
Unfortunately it wasn’t so ideal. The door to the unit has a gap in it which lets all the freezing winter cold air in. The small heater supplied is not enough to warm you and the unit. Then there is the sofa bed, after sitting on that both our backs were sore. Needs replacing. If they changed the door to the unit they would save on the power it is costing to try and keep warm.

Benefits: Quaint motel of 8 separate units. Owner lives on site, is very friendly. Cleaning staff and front desk reception also friendly and helpful during our two night stay.
1. Very clean and spacious room for family of 4.
2. Fresh towels provided daily.
3. Special attention to details: mugs matched tea towels, gave unit a cozy feel. Complimentary tea and coffee packets provided, and a pitcher of cold fresh milk was brought to us shortly after we checked in.
4. Garbage emptied daily.
5. Full size kitchenette - made spaghetti one night. Freezer is wide enough to hold a tip top icecream container.
6. Patio furniture outside of unit or umbrella covered table and chairs in common yard made a relaxing location to enjoy a cup of tea or a glass of wine in the evening.
7. Easy to find, right off highway.
8. Comfortable beds, extra blankets provided.
9. 3 minute walk from hotel to community centre ( Te Anu)
10. Free wifi
11. Sky TV

Minor Drawbacks:
Washing is $5 per load and clothesline is behind a metal door.
View from room looks out onto parking lot.

The owners were very accommodating and extremely friendly. We had to book in quickly and put our bags in the room, have breakfast and go on a coach tour to Cape Reinga. The unit was super clean (I have not stayed in such a clean unit in NZ - the owner was a nurse, and cleanliness and hygiene are second nature to her). It was extremely warm and had all the essentials needed. We had the best sleep on our tiki tour of up North, the beds were extremely comfortable - hotel grade sheets and warm blankets :) Highly recommended.

This is an elderly motel which desparately needs a major refurbishment that the owners obviously cannot afford. Furniture is old fashioned and well used, beds of poor quality and lumpy. Cleanliness was an issue, in particular the kitchen cupboards needed to be cleaned and the dirty lining paper replaced. Security was also an issue, with a door lock of 1950 garden door variety and windows left open after cleaning. Swimming pool needed a major upgrade to be pleasant to use. Washing machines were locked to prevent unauthorised use.
This motel market itself as budget accomodation but is at the expensive end of this market. One positive, Internet access is free.

My son and I chose this motel because it was low priced and looked very neat from outside. We were not disappointed. The lady was minding the motel for the owners and she was very professional and kind. The rooms were immaculate and had a kitchenette. I would very much recommend this motel to a tired traveller.

We as a family (3 adults & a toddler) have just stayed two nights at the Kauri Lodge Motel, costing $160 per night. We had a family room which had two single beds in the main TV room plus a separate bedroom. This bedroom was large with a queen size bed plus another single bed. There was a private entrance to the bathroom as well. A separate kitchen dining room, with all the household stove & utensils so we could cook our own meals.
These were the most cleanest rooms we have ever stayed in at any motel.(and we have stayed at quite a few )
The owners who are wonderful , have owned the motel about 18 months. They are always busy doing little jobs around the place and it is obvious by the way the whole place looks, that they have poured their hearts and energy into making it a great little motel.
The motel is at the end of the main street, which is only a few minutes walk to shops.
There is a great little park across the road for kids to play at too.
We would highly recommend this motel ,and will use it again.

We had a very spacious suite of rooms including a separate kitchen/breakfast area. Everything was clean and tidy given that this is not a new building. The motel is within 5 minutes walk to the town. The owners were very helpful and friendly and gave us good tips on what to do, where to eat etc. The Wifi connection was good and the BBQ worked well. There was a small pool but we didn't use it. We had a very good two days there and the charges were reasonable.
