This place is amazing. What makea it amazing is the vibe about the place.
Real cool conversations with people from all around the globe. Rooms are tidy, lacking a few small things.
Special mention to Tanya. A real connector of people and making sure everyone was taken care of and settled. Awesome customer service which is so important.
The Marae onsite?
Just wow!!

Stayed in Beachcomber lodge for one night on solo trip up north. Very nice hostel. Very friendly and helpful welcome. Hostel is very much standard, but the rooms were clean and comfortable. Didn't use the kitchen as arrived late. Very quiet and peaceful at night for sleeping. Waking distance into Kaitaia Town.

Stayed at Beachcomber Lodge & Backpackers in the lodge accommodation for 2 nights. The room was very clean and comfortable and had a good size flat screen television. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Kaitaia is a great location to base yourself while travelling around the Far North. If you want to treat yourself to a really nice lunch or dinner the Beachcomber Restaurant is just over the road from the lodge and their food is outstanding. There is a pool table and table tennis table in the common room which are great fun on a wet day

From the few accommodation options in this small town, Beachcomber hits the mark in offering no-fuss, budget lodging. They have both private rooms and shared dorms, with ample parking space. I stayed in the 4-bed dorm, which is pretty basic but clean and comfortable enough for a short stay. However, the mattress has seen better days, and the pillow is as thin as the bedsheets.
I visited in the early winter, which is a quiet season, so there were only a couple of guests there. In the warmer months, I imagine the atmosphere would be much livelier as there is a lot of common areas for people to socialize, like the big kitchen/lounge and the courtyard complete with a hammock. Just next to the hostel there's a KFC, but if you're willing to spend a bit more, across the road there's the recommendable Beachcomber restaurant/bar that serves surf-and-turf type dishes.

Travelling alone, especially when working alongside, can sometimes be challenging but hostels with such a friendly atmosphere as this one can really make a trip outstanding. From the start the staff and facilities were incredible, so helpful and willing to go the extra mile to improve your stay. Thank you to all the staff of beachcomber, you guys rock!!

Recently came off a super 4 day tramp in Northland and with rain on the way decided I needed a roof over my head and a bed for the night. Found Beachcombers had room at the last minute, so I booked one of the private rooms at the back of the property. Check-in was friendly, room very basic but fine for the price. Unfortunately, the neighbour in the property behind the Lodge started blasting music at 9pm that carried on until 1am, and resumed at 8am again the next morning. I don't begrudge anyone a party, but this was a little much for a weeknight and clearly would have kept anyone in the back half of the Lodge property awake. I would have gone to sleep in my car, but the gates were closed for the night so I stuck it out until finally at 1am they gave it a break....I prefer to leave more positive reviews, but I think the folks at the Lodge need to have a talk with their back neighbour. (Dorm rooms at front should be fine, but avoid anything near back of property or risk a sleepless night.)

Thank you for informing us of the noise issue and we are sorry that this has happened on your stay with us. We are aware that you had a chat with one of our team the next morning, unfortunately he was not onsite that night and was oblivious to the noise. We have not had this issue come up so far, so we will indeed be contacting the owner of the property to try to eliminate this problem in the future. We wish you the best on your travels moving forward and hope to see you again if you happen to come our way.

Something for everyone here, from hostel dorm to large private room with ensuite, TV, fridge and assigned parking out front.
Right on main commercial street, liquor store and restaurant at end of the block.
We booked originally for one night but got a second night easily.
