Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a great stay. Everyone was very friendly, the amenities were good, and the beach was very close. My children really liked that shovels were provided for the Hot Water Beach. The sunsets and sunrises were very nice. There are several restaurants nearby that are also great.

Property's Favourite Review
We just recently visited Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach and stayed at Tatahi Lodge. We absolutely loved our stay and I can’t recommend this gorgeous place enough! The rooms and all the facilities were spotless and what I really loved - very cosy and comfortable! The kitchen/bathrooms - very clean. Beds and linen - comfortable and good quality. We travelled with kids and they loved it too! There is a cosy lounge with books and games they enjoyed in the evening. The lodge is located right in the midst of the town, but it feels very private and quiet. Everyone who we met at the place were super lovely, kind and helpful. We were able to borrow the spades for the Hot Water beach. I will be recommending this place to everyone who is heading that way!

Stayed here Oct 2023. Wow. What a location. We dropped in on the offchance that a room was availale and the guy on reception was great. Checked us in and gave us a bit of local info to be going on with. The resort is within walking distance to the beautiful Hahei beach, probably one of the beast beaches in the world and from where you can get the Cathedral Cove Taxi boat right off the beach. It is also in walking distance to a supermarket, a café that serves great breakfast and a great pub / restaurant called the "Pour" The room was very clean, the beds comfortable and the bathroom huge. Outside was a table and some loungers in lovely established gardens. There was parking available right outside our room which made transporting luggage so much easier. If travelling to see Cathedral Cove, this is the place to stay. It is also very reasonably priced. Apologies for the photos, I only wish I'd taken more. Thanks for a lovely stay and if we could stay again tomorrow we would. Probably one of my favourite places in NZ over our 3 week tour.

A lovely room with large bed, shower room with manuka honey shampoos, a small kitchen area with kettle, microwave and fridge and patio doors to a small garden area with loungers. Lush tropical landscaping with shops and eateries nearby. The beach is 5 mins walk away and is gorgeous too. We enjoyed the beach, took dawn sunrise photos from the nearby ‘Pa’ ad visited Hot Water Beach. We ate in the Pour House both nights - great food and wine. We loved Hahei and wished we’d had more nights there.

We had a comfortable stay with excellent hosts! Was late to check in and they left written messages on their doors to guide me to self check in! They definitely went the extra mile! Well thought out amenities with everything we need! Best stay in our time in New Zealand! :)

A lovely room just a short walk away from Hahei beach. The staff were very friendly and quick to rearrange the double bed into 2 singles. The shower was fabulous. The local shops supply everything you need for your stay - you can choose to self-cater (microwave, kettle and fridge in the room), or there's a cafe and pub serving food and locally brewed beers/cider.

We had a fantastic stay here. The 2-bedroom unit was comfortable and warm, even in the off-season. It’s right in the centre of town and an easy walk to the Hahei beach. The staff were kind and helpful, highly recommended.

We chose to visit Hahei as it’s the closest to Cathedral Cove you can get. Tatahi Lodge had private suites which was a must for us. We stayed in a private two-bedroom suite, which was close to the beaches, around the corner from town, and had plenty of space to relax. Parking was right outside the door to our room. Visit Little Lato in town for a great ice cream treat. The town is very small but also charming and the beaches are a must visit. The room was nice, beds were comfy, and the seating area was relaxing. The bathroom was the only negative we encountered during our stay. The shower, toilet, and sink are all next to each other with a surrounding pull curtain hanging off the ceiling for the shower but has no lip so water gets everywhere on the floor of the bathroom. It’s difficult to explain but odd when experiencing it. The other issue was that the hot water nozzle in the sink would not turn off. It would be incredibly hard for most people to turn it off as the handle gets stuck. Other than these issues, we enjoyed our stay. Unfortunately, the cyclone hit right before we arrived and the pathways were closed to the Cove. We learned this as we arrived in town. A total disappointment as this was high on our list to see while touring NZ. We ended up paying to take the water taxi to see Cathedral Cove, which was a must as it’s the only way to see it (other than kayak) now that the pathways are closed. (The water taxi driver was fantastic! We highly recommend him.) So if you are planning to visit, please know, you cannot walk to the Cove nor walk on the beach. You can only see it from the water.
