While the Hilton Garden Inn Seattle Downtown is lauded for its cleanliness and quiet rooms, some guests feel the decor is dated and in need of a refresh. Its location is a draw for visitors looking to explore downtown Seattle and its attractions, although there are mixed feelings about the immediate area and dining options.
The service team is recognized for their friendliness, yet some guests have experienced issues with amenity availability and staff responsiveness. Although the hotel boasts some appreciated amenities, opinions are divided, with several travelers finding the establishment overpriced and lacking value.

The rooms are fine, the staff are friendly, the lobby restroom is inadequate, but most of all the restaurant is really bad. This matters because the location is on the sketchy edge of downtown, and there is very little food. The HGI breakfast buffet costs $25.50 and had almost nothing. Instead, go to the Hyatt Regency and for an additional $3.50 ($29) you get a big spread of chef-made entrees -- a WAY better value. We normally choose HGI because it's a good value. But when Hyatt Regency offers a WAY better value, something is terribly wrong at HGI.
Details: HGI dinner prices are high and portions are very small. HGI breakfast had no scrambled eggs, just egg whites. No sausage, just bacon. The oatmeal was cool, if not cold. There were only three warmers in total, and just not much to choose from.
If somebody from HGI will walk two blocks to Hyatt Regency, you'll see what your guests are seeing, and you'll make some changes.

We checked in on July 4th. We were greeted by Matt’s smiling face at the front desk. He was so helpful. He asked if we were sightseeing and immediately he got out the city map showing us points of interest and how to get there. He also told us to use Uber to get around to things too far to walk. That was a lifesaver since we’re in our 70’s and the hills made it somewhat difficult to walk up. However, we did a lot of walking. Anytime we needed anything, he was there to answer questions and of course witty replies.
Jay in the restaurant was wonderful too. He was very friendly and helpful too. Always good to see a smiling face in the morning.
I highly recommend this hotel.

I had the opportunity to stay at this hotel for a 3-night city stay. I'm a fan of the Hilton chain and haven't had many issues with the hotel brand until now. A bit disappointed in my experience, but hopeful that the property will get better over time.
Pros: Great downtown location. Walking distance from Pike's Market and Space Needle. Short rideshare drive from major sporting events and concert venues. Nearby eateries, shopping and coffee shops. Friendly staff and appealing lobby area.
Cons: Rooms need renovation!!! Upon my arrival to my room, I immediately smelled a strong odor coming from either the worn carpet or furniture. Bathrooms have cloth shower curtains (that I hate because those are not regularly cleaned). And this location does NOT perform daily housekeeping (i.e. towel refresh, vacuuming, linen turnover). They only clean every other day unless you request a daily cleaning at check-in. Unfortunately, my cousin checked us in prior to my city arrival and we didn't realize the cleaning schedule until the end of day on the 2nd day when we discovered the room wasn't cleaned.
Based on other reviews, there is a rumor that the rooms are scheduled for renovation in 2024. But I didn't see any signs of room renovation during my stay, and we were in the city August 2024.
I would stay at this location again only if the rooms are renovated. I think it is a great location and the staff was friendly. But I couldn't get comfortable.

Recently this had been our go-to hotel for business stays in Seattle, however, I expect that to be changing. I was rather taken back when charged $30 per room for early check in when arriving 1 hour early. We have continuously had challenges with the parking gates working correctly, and most unsettling was security. In the past your room key was needed to gain access to the floors, which was not the case during this visit. It appeared anyone had access to any floor through the elevator with no key necessary. The rooms themselves are nice, and the staff pleasant, but I'll plan to check other options in the future.

I don’t have high hopes when I check into a Hilton, but even my low ones weren’t met at this one. Pretty sure they bought the carpet and armchair when I graduated high school (Carter was president). We asked to move after one night in room 801 where the air conditioner sounds like a Cessna. (Loud through ear plugs.) The shower door leaks and floods the floor, the fridge didn’t work, and there were too few hangers for two people attending a wedding. In our new room (820 Hilton manager), the iron was coated in gooey gunk. 25 minutes after going to the desk (no one answered the phone), someone brought me a replacement hair dryer. 45 minutes on, still waiting on an iron. Seattle has tons of hotels. I think I’d suggest just about ANY other one.

I arrived early in downtown Seattle but had called ahead a few days prior and Reuben assured me if a room was not available, I could use luggage storage so I could continue with my plans to visit the area. I arrived around 10:30am and asked if there was availability and was told yes. As a Gold Hilton Honors member, I asked if an upgrade was available. I was told that my upgrade would be a suite but there were none available as the hotel was sold out for the evening. I proceeded to check in, dropped my bags off and went about my day. After returning to the hotel for the evening, I went to the restaurant for dinner and was surprised at how few people were in the restaurant and just in general throughout the hotel. So, after my dinner order, I went back to my room and logged into my Hilton Honors app to see if there was any suites available for the evening and there were! As well as other rooms. So, #1: they were NOT sold out as I was told and #2: there WAS a suite available to book at 8pm so I was not given a complete answer when asking about my obligatory upgrade as a Hilton Honors Gold member. I called the HH phone number and shared what I found, she looked online and saw that indeed they were not sold out and there was a suite available. She contacted the front desk and was told by Matt that I would not be upgraded as they only update Diamond members which is not with the HH program according to all documentation found on their Honors website regarding benefits. Since they very quickly ended the call with the HH representative, she escalated my issue. The next person also verified that there were rooms available and a suite was also available. She contacted the front desk as well and spoke with Matt who reaffirmed that THIS hotel does not upgrade Gold HH members. She then told me she would forward onto the general manager to address this issue and no recourse could be done by her.
I went to the front desk then and spoke with Matt, he said I had been in the room all day so why was I asking for an upgrade at 8pm. I stated that I was not asking for an upgrade at this time, I was just wanting to know why I was lied to when checking in. He scoffed at me and said to speak to the Manager, Rachel, in the morning.
Okay, hello Rachel. What is a Gold HH members status in your hotel? Why did your front desk agent #1 tell me you were sold out for the evening of September 7th and #2 tell me my upgrade would be a suite but there were none available. Which both were not true.
If this disrespect is what your staff shows to HH members, then why would we want to continue to be a part of this program when you pick and choose which benefits each person gets? The point of being a member is for the perks and it would be nice if your front desk staff had some respect.
Pros: Room is decent, scuffed up furniture though. Restaurant staff is very engaging and wonderful.

Thank you for speaking to me about this issue. As discussed, we had the suite assigned to a Diamond member who cancelled his reservation for the same day freeing up that room. We have only a few suites in the hotel and these are prioritized for our Diamond members. We have usually 25-35 inhouse during the week. Gold Honors members are important to us of course and appreciate your loyalty to Hilton. I am so glad we were able to check you in early and I am sorry you were disappointed by the way we handled this. Sincerely, Rachel Blake General Manager

I chose the Hilton Garden Inn Seattle for its convenient location, as it is the closest Hilton to my family in Seattle. It ended up being a fantastic choice, and I will definitely stay here again in the future. The rooms are clean, spacious, and well-appointed with comfortable beds and modern amenities. Located in the business district, the hotel was quiet in the evenings and weekends. We enjoyed the convenience of having restaurants, shops, and entertainment options within easy walking distance. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his steak meal, while I found my chicken pasta dish a bit bland. We enjoyed cocktails in the evening, which were quite good. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel for its comfortable accommodations, convenient location, and friendly service.

Do not stay here!! I went end of December and booked three rooms for two nights and we all paid separately for our rooms but then they charged my for my room plus no shows for the other two rooms when in fact we were all there and paid for them. I have been calling and dealing with their staff and getting the run around. They won’t refund me. It’s a joke!!! I enjoyed my stay but this is crazy that I’m paying all this extra.

Thank you for your feedback. It seems that there is a misunderstanding as, we showed that you booked reservations for 3 rooms for two nights, with two different online travel agencies. We will help you contact them to issue a refund for the duplicate booking as well as correct any billing errors at the hotel. We are sorry for the trouble.

We didn't mind the hotel being dated- it was the customer service that ruined the stay for us. We only stayed for ONE night and had TWO bad interactions with the front desk.
First- After airport arrival (8 hour flight day) , we called to see if early check in was available. The Front desk told us we could find out when we got there. We asked to find out now since it would impact our day. He was clearly put out that we would ask for such information. Good News for us - the room was ready! Too bad this good news was delivered begrudgingly. Still didn't think about it again until our next encounter. T
Second- We were going to take a Lyft when the front desk heard this- they offered to call us a cab. After the cab was arranged. We asked when the cab might arrive. The Desk Assistant snapped at us that he just hung up the phone and it will be here when it gets here... We made the mistake of asking him( the desk assistant) if they quoted him a price. He sarcastically answered- I don't know - they run off meters- haven't you ever taken a cab before??? Now we are irritated and made another big mistake and asked for his name. I guess you can't do that anymore- it is sensitive information and you are now an automatic "Karen" .. he threw a few more snipe remarks at us and walked to the back behind a wall.
The Manager did come out - gave the industry standard "apology" and told us the Desk Assistant name was Rebuen . I don't know if that is true or not. But if you go to this Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Seattle- he aka Rebuen is the danity man with double nose ring- you might want to avoid his line.
The onsite restaurant is small , super busy and very much overpriced. Even with that being said- we were still going to give it a try but the buffet trays were almost empty . There is a great deli right next store to the hotel entrance. So that was nice:)

The good: Very friendly and informative staff, very clean room, fast wifi, very quiet room, very comfortable bed and good quality bedding. And yes, they have individual soap and shampoo, a rarity these days vs the shower mounted bottles, don't change that. Location is perfect downtown.
The bad: parking is expensive, but this is the case everywhere downtown anyway, it is what it is.
Having stayed at the Hilton downtown Seattle in the past, this is by far a nicer property vast lobby with bar and eating area.
Will stay here again for sure, thank you Hilton Garden inn

Don't know the answer for questions 1 & 2. Question 3, yes the walk is slightly uphill then downhill walking to Pike Place. Going back its more uphill leaving Pike place but over all walk is not very difficult. If you have walking problem then it maybe but go at a slow pace. We used Lyft which is linked to points to Hilton and cost was not expensive. The system was safe & fast for pick up, I highly recommend utilizing this service!
The pool is open on a reservation basis with a maximum of 10 people allowed at a time. It is open from 7 am - 11 pm daily and the front desk can hold a space 24 hours in advance.
