The location excels in its location; all the popular Seattle destination such as Space Needle, Pike Public Market, and Seattle Public Library are more or less about 10-15 minutes walking distance. There is also a Whole Foods and another asian grocery market that is about a block away, and there is an abundance of coffee shops and dining options surrounding the hotel.
The room I got is very small compared to a typical traditional hotel room; I think it's perfect for the solo traveler or couples but if you have family or kids, this might not be the best hotel option for you.
I had an issue with room cleanliness and the staff's failure to address it. I had noticed there were stains and crumbs underneath the sheets and mattress during my second night. So I took photos and brought up the issue with the front desk staffs. They had indicated they would send housecleaning up to resolve the issue, so I left the hotel to get dinner. After dinner, I went back to my room and it was very evident someone had been in the room because the bed was made BUT the stain and crumbs were still there. I called the front desk to explain the stains and crumbs were still present and voiced my disappointment. Since it was later in the evening, I told front desk I didn't want housekeeping to come up again and would want the issue to be resolve the next day. The front desk staff told me they would notify the housekeeping manager about the issue. So the next day, I left the hotel in the morning for my itinerary and didn't come back until evening time. I came back into my room and the stains and crumbs were still present.

I believe my husband requested a top floor room so that our 17 month old baby can sleep soundly without being disturbed by footsteps from above.
Upon entering the room, it appears to be designed for individuals with disabilities. However, there is no dining table, we all had to eat on the floor. The bed's sharp edge poses a hazard to toddlers. Only one chair is provided. Storage space is insufficient, resulting in cluttered floors. The sink is compact, and there are no hooks for wet towels or clean clothing. The bathroom floor is slippery, and my infant slipped in the shower area. The lighting system, including the bathroom, is app-controlled, requiring all lights to be turned on for bathroom use. The trash cans are extremely small. The shampoo and conditioner dispensers are malfunctioning.
Although cleanliness and staff friendliness are commendable, these issues require attention.

Everything was simply fantastic. The room was new, very well organized and squeaky clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly. They provide filtered water and basically anything that one might need in a hotel 24/7. The only downside of the location is that there is a park with homeless people across the street. But they are quiet and peaceful, so not a big problem.

The rooms are very small and modern, and the shower gets warm, but not hot. All of the lights and curtains are controlled by an app on an iPad or your phone in addition to a few switches around the room. I booked here based on a conference recommendation, so just know what you’re booking and make sure that’s what you’re looking for.
I absolutely would not stay here again based on my experience — I booked for 2 nights. As I was getting ready on my first morning there, all of a sudden all the lights turned off and the blackout curtain dropped. It was pitch black and I had to stumble around the room to find a switch to turn on a light. Luckily I didn’t trip and hurt myself.
I told front desk person what happened and they nodded knowingly and said, “ok, I’ll have to flip the breaker to get the lights back on.” I told them the lights came back on when I hit the switch. They said, “that’s weird. Normally I have to flip the breaker to get them to come back on.” So I ask, “so this is normal”? They said, “well, no, not normal but it happens. I’ll have maintenance look at it.” And that was it. No apology or offer of compensation.
When I returned that evening, my keycard didn’t work and the front desk associate said “ah, yeah” and nodded when I gave them my name.
I finally pieces together that either a tech glitch or human error at the front desk (maybe someone gave the wrong room #?) caused me to be checked out that morning— the lights going off and blinds shutting happens immediately after you click “check out” on the app on your phone, and I had been sent an email invoice minutes after the blackout occurred.
Frustrating that it happened, but what really got me was that no one seemed to care and there was no apology given.

Dear smcain, Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm truly sorry to hear about the challenges you faced during your stay, especially with the unexpected issues involving the lights and keycard, and the lack of a satisfactory resolution from the team. This is not the level of care or service we strive to provide. Your insights regarding the technical glitch and how it was handled are concerning, and they highlight areas where we need to improve both our systems and staff training. We understand how frustrating it must have been, and we regret not addressing the situation with the empathy and urgency it deserved. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us learn and grow, and we’ll work hard to ensure such lapses don’t happen again. Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed review, and we apologize that we fell short of your expectations. Safe Travels, Citizen Nelvin

We spent two nights at the SLU Citizen M . It is super convenient in location to many of Seattle's main attractions. We visited for a Kraken game, and were able to walk to Climate Pledge in a matter of minutes. We found parking on the street without issue that allowed us easy access to our vehicle when we visited the Fremont and Ballard neighborhoods. We loved our stay, and will be returning more often now that we have found a reasonably priced hotel that is clean and stylish and provides us with all the amenities we look for.

If you haven’t stayed at this brand before then you might be surprised at the room size. The width is the exact size of the king size bed that’s stuck in between the walls. The vanity is in the room and toilet and shower in a smaller glass enclosure. The rooms are small, but have a modern vibe and everyone is controlled from a small iPad. The bed was firm but comfortable, overall great for my 2 night business trip in the area. Staff was friendly, location is great with lots of close food options.

High-Tech Hostel designed for solo under 35 yrs old travelers. Rooms perfect for 1 and so small stretched out arms will touch both sidewalls. King bed occupies 3 walls - sides and end of room. Sleeper under window must crawl over partner to exit bed. Shower ultra slippery and safety concern. Staying here will appeal to anyone wanting to learn a new app called "Hotel Room." All room functions -- lights, TV, climate -- controlled via iPad unintuitive app. And if all lights are out during the night and iPad cannot be found, you won't be able to find the door in an emergency. No light switches in toilet/shower area but, you guested it, use the iPad app.

I came here for a work trip solo. I LOVED this little hotel. It was located around a lot of great restaurants, a Whole Foods for supplies for the room, and I felt safe here! My offices are located right on South Lake, and I walked the 1.5 miles each day to and from the office and felt very safe. The hotel room itself is very small, but it is still sizable for couples or solo. Being eco-friendly, everything in the room is controlled by the provided iPad or through the citizenM app on your phone. The staff was friendly every time I entered the lobby, helping me find whatever I needed whether that be directions or a plate for my takeout. The lobby itself is very inviting, full of color, large, beautiful. I did not try the breakfast or other food items at the hotel, but the food I did see of other patrons, it looked delicious. Although I was right off a busy street, I could never hear traffic.
Travel to/from SEA/TAC: I flew in around 1pm and my Uber ride to citizenM was $60 and took 20 minutes; I left very early on a Saturday morning (5:30) and it was still the same price and took about the same amount of time.
For the ladies: There is shampoo and shower gel in the shower, but there is no conditioner; A full size hairdryer was provided. Also, shower is see-through depending on how close you are to the walls/what color you have the shower walls set to.
I plan to stay here every time I have to travel back to Seattle for work.

Like getting hit over the head by a capital M. A strong brand is one thing, I was half expecting a whimsical brand element next to the toilet in the room. Just too much, everywhere you looked. I get it, I'm staying at citizen M. As far as the techie experience, ultimately it wasn't different than staying at a Hilton or Hyatt. Wi-fi: check. A common area to work: check. A lounge and a bar: check. Breakfast buffet: check. Definitely felt the millennial "no need for service/DIY" experience. The art hotel feeling was present in the living rooms, and the furniture was functional instead of just looking cool. The guest hallway experience was beyond hideous: garish red splatter carpet with a huge, busy print, the people of citizen M murals at the elevator which were tiresome after the first time seeing, not a square inch spared with negative space, sensory overload, little citizen M people with their balloon heads popping up everywhere. I wish I could have asked one of them for some ice. When I did ask at the bar, it was as if I had two heads. Does no one need ice in their room in Seattle? Strip away all of the brand nonsense, and it was an average stay, if not slightly below because the breakfast buffet was disgusting: scrambled eggs sitting in about 2 inches of water, and tasted like a barn; potatoes that tasted like they hadn't been washed, and lots of items not included in the buffet. Beyond basic buffet. The room itself was a compact yet comfortable layout which I appreciated. The interior was a welcome reprieve from the visual onslaught of the hallways. The brand could really do with a little "less if more" vibe. Great location though!
