The "mansion" was recommended to us by my son and daughter-in-law. It did not disappoint! The room was very comfortable and was well equipped with charging plugs, lighting, a convenient nook in the bathroom with shelves for personal items and out of sight luggage storage. The bathroom floor was heated which was a pleasant surprise! The bed was very comfortable and pillows just right. Even though it wasn't expected, housekeeping tidied up daily and replenished towels emptied garbage cans.
We were surprised by the quality of the breakfast because it wasn't adequately described. We were expecting usual hotel breakfast but not so! Fresh yogurt and berries, homemade fruit cobbler, cherry scones, bagels, croissants, and on. Excellent. Upon raving about the cobbler and scones the lovely lady that served us offered to make our favorites again (and she did!). The coffee was also very good.
The common areas were richly appointed, quiet and cozy.
If you love the turn of the century history and craftsmanship you will love the Shafer Baillie Mansion Bed and Breakfast.

I stayed two nights in the Ellison Bay Suite. The mansion is beautiful outside and inside. The stained glass in the front doors and the carved wooden pillars in the entry are gorgeous. There is beautiful woodwork throughout the house. Breakfast was delicious and I enjoyed eating in the sunroom where I could look out at the blooming camellia tree. Coffee, tea, snacks and fruit are always available. The suite was spotless, sheets were the nicest I've ever seen: thick, soft, and slightly satiny. I was able to look at a number of other rooms before more guests arrived and they are all beautiful and different from each other. Location is in my favorite part of Capital Hill on a quiet street with many beautiful old homes and close to Volunteer Park with its walking trails, plant conservatory and the excellent Asian Art Museum. Linda, one of the owners was very gracious and welcoming. I look forward to staying here again.

This is a beautiful, lovingly restored mansion. The rooms are large and the bathrooms are modern. Although a very old building, it never felt musty or dirty. On the contrary, it felt clean, well managed, homey and warm. Our stay was enhanced with Ana as our hostess serving a warm dish for breakfast each morning. She and her husband restored the mansion nearly 20 years ago and their planning was superb. There is a lot of tabletop space and charging areas for electronics in the bedroom and bath. My niece, who accompanied me, is not fond of talking with strangers in the morning and we retreated to one of the many rooms on the main floor for our breakfasts. Ana was knowledgeable about the neighborhood, Seattle and surrounding day drives. She has made the mansion a home-away-from-home. I can't recommend the Shafer Baillie Mansion B & B enough.

I was originally intrigued by the perfect 5 stars reviews written about this B&B. Hubby and I were visiting Seattle and wanted a romantic getaway...we got what we wanted!
We were able to reserve the Master Suite, which is quite spacious and comfortable, it has four rooms - a very, very large king sized bedroom, large bathroom (deep soaking tub, separate shower, toilet and 2 lavatory sinks), sitting room, and a back bedroom with 2 twin beds.
The main mansion spaces are equally expansive and beautiful, yet very comfortable.
Breakfast was maybe the best part of our visit though. We had notified the staff (several days prior to our arrival) that my husband and I are both on strict gluten free diets. They assured us that they had served many people over the years a GF breakfast, and had never received any negative feedback, and I'm so happy to say that not only did we NOT have health issues afterward, but that this will definitely go down as one of our favorite breakfasts ever. They had prepared a special portion of GF French Toast just for us! This...along with fresh OJ, luxurious coffee, spectacular fresh fruit, prosciutto, smoked salmon and cheeses...believe me when I say this B&B gets 5 stars from everyone, that it's the real deal!
We'll be back!

This is a stunning mansion in a quiet neighborhood and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. I stayed in the Capitol Hill room and was impressed with the way they retrofitted a shower into a house built in 1914. Breakfast was top notch. The strata, smoked salmon and fruit plate were my favorites.

What a place !! At first we were amazed by the exterior beauty of the mansion, only to find that it was equaled by the stunning interior and spacious rooms. The breakfast was delicious with a large selection. The location in Capital Hill was perfect as the local area is beautiful and quiet, but still only a short walk away from streets boosting with a variety of shops and restaurants. At the end of our stay we had some logistical issues and Brenda and Ana Lena were so fantastic and helpful. This level of service is certainly above and beyond any expectations.

This lovely, historic mansion on Capitol Hill (near Broadway and 15th restaurants) is a few blocks from Volunteer Park. It reflects period elegance of another time while offering a quiet retreat and easy access to downtown Seattle. We are fortunate to stay a couple times annually when in town for appointments.
Some reviews mention the lack of an on-site parking area, but honestly we've never failed to snag nearby street parking in this safe neighborhood. And, when downtown Seattle hotels currently have $50 nightly parking, it is a bonus to instead splurge on a local resturant meal or NW bottle of wine rather than a garage space!
The sunroom is our favorite morning spot after a tasty breakfast of fruit, croissants, cheese, salmon, juice and coffee. The library is full of historical documentation on the Mansion, and the cozy leather furniture invites one to curl up in the evening and read. The living room fireplace offers a fiery glow on rainy evenings where the period red-velvet furniture is especially lovely in the holiday season when the Christmas tree sparkles with lights.
Brenda, Ana Lena and Mark you welcome us each visit with warmth. We feel as though this is our Seattle home; building memories over the years. Thanks! Until our next stay.

We stay in bed & breakfasts fairly often when we travel and Shafer Baillie Mansion is the BEST one we have ever stayed in. The way they renovated this extraordinary mansion is magnificent. Each room is truly unique. The furnishings and fixtures are lovely but also seem selected with guests in mind with comfortable chairs, usable desks, dressers and end tables and good beds, exquisitely remodeled bathrooms with subway tile and modern fixtures and amenities. Some B&Bs with victorian furniture seem either stuffy or cheesy but if done right like Shafer Baillie, the atmosphere is perfect. There is a sun room and even a large brick patio to sit outside. Even with a full house, it was very quiet. The hosts and staff are friendly and personable. The breakfasts were delicious including delectable breads, a hot casserole and a lot of healthy options too. They will even pack you a boxed breakfast if you have to leave early or need to eat on the run. The neighborhood is beautiful and safe. We did not find it an issue to be on Captiol Hill and not downtown. We drove our rental car downtown and wherever else we needed to and found abundant street parking downtown and in front of the B&B. Many restaurants within walking distance too. Can't say enough good things about the Shafer Baillie Mansion. Thank you!

The innkeeper (Diana?-not sure) will have suggestions for you. The inn is in a residential area, and it was about a 15-20 minute walk (a very nice walk) to the area with restaurants, but maybe there is somewhere closer. But ask the innkeeper for suggestions, ever before you get there. She is very helpful.
There are more places to choose from in the Seattle area.
