Rooms have wardrobes and chests of drawers, and we were able to fully unpack our suitcases and had room to stow them. As is often the case in repurposed old homes, bathrooms have showers only and are on the small side.
In the dining room, there is coffee and tea service, several flavors of yogurt, and other snacks for a light breakfast, and Bakery Nouveau that is a few blocks away makes splendid pastries. We enjoyed starting the day in the bright, prettily decorated dining room.
Those arriving by car should know that there is no on-site parking, and you may have to unload and park a few blocks away. The hotel issues parking passes that allow you to ignore the restricted times, and if you have a standard size vehicle you probably will have no problem. We had a full-size SUV but still had no problem except for one evening, when I had to look for a while. The neighborhood is generally quiet but has restaurants and eclectic shopping within a few blocks, and public transit goes direct from Downtown and the ferry terminal to a nearby bus stop. I'm not going to bother to rent a car next time, since this is a transit-friendly city and I would have saved money by using Lyft.
Those with allergies should know that there is a resident cat - we never saw him above the first floor or in any guest rooms, though.
All in all, our stay was very good and we will return.
Firstly, this is a absolutely stunning home. The building is beautiful and the area it is in is great. Plenty of bars and restaurants close by as well as a large supermarket.
Location wise you’re about a 10 min walk to the nearest subway station but you can also walk downtown in no time at all (and I would recommend you do as you’ll see some amazing local businesses on the way)
The gaslight is very well known in the local community and I can see why, it really is a beautiful place to stay and is a very accommodating safe space for everyone.
The owners were very friendly and polite and helpful when we needed them, and the housekeeping staff member I met on my final morning also got chatting to me and was very friendly. They obviously love what they do and it shows.
We had a room with a private shower room and semi private balcony. I really liked the room, it was large and had everything you could want (including a mini fridge to chill the all important wine for evenings on the balcony). The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet. The air con also worked great and was controlled in the room. The air con was also silent so won’t disturb you if needed on over night like we did.
Really nice feature the tv in the room is a Amazon fire tv and there were plenty of channels/apps available for use if you want that.
Breakfast was served around a large dining table and everyone sat together. I only had breakfast at the table for one of my two mornings at the gaslight as had to pack the final morning but I really enjoyed chatting to the other guests and the owner while enjoying some gorgeous fresh fruit, muffins, croissants, juice and coffee.
I would love to return again and will soon! They also have a large pool for the summer which looked lovely.

Volunteer Park & fine restaurants are nearby.
The owners are friendly gracious and offer up good suggestions; won’t be hesitant to recommend and will be back.
Thank you Ryan & Joelle,
Jeannie
The beds and rooms are really soft. I only met one of the owners (Ryan), but he was so caring.
The shared area is fantastic for a book or a chat or doing work, although there is plenty of space in the actual bedrooms.
Everything is really clean.
I didn’t get to have breakfast because of an appointment and then the next day just sleeping too long, but it looked great.
The toiletries they use are fantastic.
I’m kind of weird about my water, and I am not crazy about the taste of Seattle water. So I typically bring a water purifier/filter to hotels. I didn’t need to use it because there are hot and cold water stations in the hallway. I cannot fully explain how delighted this made me.
Anyway, warm, inviting, superb location, excellent tasting water, comfortable bed… I will definitely be back.
The Gaslight Inn has a great location, we walked down to the city and caught a bus or light train back at the end of a day sightseeing. Our hosts were happy to recommend places to go and as well as the main sights we enjoyed a pleasant visit to the Japanese garden and arboretum.
