Nestled in the ancient oaks of Esplanade Avenue, the ornate architectural detail of the past meets modern comfort and convenience in our restoration of the historic Lamothe House hotel. Featuring an elaborate courtyard accented by mature landscaping, a garden pond, and a refreshing pool, peace and relaxation are just steps away from the thrill the Crescent City has to offer. In addition to 30 guest rooms refinished in traditional style, five Grand Antique Suites have been preserved from the original 1839 construction of the home of Jean Lamothe, a wealthy sugar cane planter of French descent. Furnished with antique furniture & artwork, the detail and charm that exemplifies old New Orleans is accessible to today’s traveler. Not to be overlooked is the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood the Lamothe House calls home. Here visitors will find Frenchmen Street, often referred to as “the local’s Bourbon Street”, which features some of the best local music and cuisine found in the French Quarter.Whether it’s your first or your next visit to the Big Easy, find the authentic New Orleans experience you are searching for at the Lamothe House.

I stayed the night in New Orleans on June 5 (Saturday), and I wanted to stay near the French Quarter (so I could enjoy some of the exuberant spirit) but not in the heart of all the Bourbon Street hoopla and noise. Lamothe seemed like it would be just about right, and it was.

It is in two beautiful old buildings (separate blocks). They are old - high ceilings, creaky old wood floors, and such. Walking up the long, old staircase from the ground floor to the second floor reception desk, you feel like you have stepped back to the mid-19th century. But I didn't want to experience a modern hotel. [If the feel of a modern hotel is what you want, the Lahome is not your place.] Still, this place had all the expected modern amenities, fit into the 19th century charm. It is an easy walk to the water front, Jackson Square, and Bourbon Street, but the noise of that continuous party can be left behind when you get back to your room.

The staff was very polite and accommodating. Yari, in particular, went beyond the ordinary to help me out.

I have to mention one thing that was somewhat amiss, though not in my mind a serious flaw. They were having trouble with the Wifi (having to rebuild it from scratch for some technical reason), and it would not work in may room/area. This was not a great inconvenience to me - I did not come to New Orleans to sit in my room and surf the internet on my cell phone. But the staff was still very apologetic, and in fact gave me a credit on my bill because of the inconvenience. I think this is just a temporary glitch that would not be a problem for future visitors.

Parking, in the hotel's own private, gated lot, was easily accessible.

I would not hesitate to stay at Lahome again.

A stunning historical building with incredibly friendly and helpful staff.

It's hard to beat the rates too, especially for a location that's mere blocks from the main action but still quiet enough for a great sleep.

A great bonus for us was standing on our giant terrace and being able to hear the outdoor brass bands of Frenchmen St. in the distance!

We've been to New Orleans many times and this is definitely our favorite place to stay.

Keep in mind that this is NOT the Marriott or Hilton. This is a historic hotel that captures the charm and personality of New Orleans. If you are expecting marble counters and floors with lavish bathrooms, go find a modern hotel chain. If you are wanted a taste of the tradition and charm of New Orleans, this is a hotel for you. The hotel is beautiful, charming, and exudes the charm of New Orleans french quarter.

The room was clean, extremely comfortable, had everything we could have wanted. The staff was very pleasant at check in and was extremely fast to accommodate our request for new towels as we left the "do not disturb" sign on the door.

The house is a traditional maintained facility. As such, you will experience a loose/soft spot on the hardwood floor consistent with a building of this era. But I felt this only added to the authentic charm of the hotel.

Realize that you may be awakened by the music of a street funeral that is the tradition of New Orleans (no, it isn't like a parade and it only lasts a couple minutes). This only added to our appreciation of the tradition.

Bottom line, know what your are reserving, an authentic building that offers the charm of New Orleans that is extremely comfortable, and you will be thrilled with the hotel as we were.

First off, let me say I have stayed in 20+ different hotels in the French Quarter area. I only live a couple ours away and love to visit New Orleans with friends/family. I usually stay in different hotels because I love the history and variety of hotels in the area. This hotel is absolutely the worst stay I've ever had in NOLA - from start to finish.

Upon arrival, we pulled up in front of the hotel. A guest standing outside unlocked the front door with their key to let me in, and I walked upstairs to check-in. No employee to be found, not one, in the entire building for 10-15 mins. At one point I shouted "is anyone working here" and got no response. I went back out to my car to let my mom know I couldn't find anyone and continuously tried calling the main number. After another 5 mins or so, someone came to the front door after strolling down the street and said he could check me in. It's like he was the only employee and decided to give himself a break?? Anyways, he checked me in and gave me a key to the gated parking lot. The room key AND the parking lot key didn't work. So I called the front desk and he came to open the gate, and provided us keys that he said would actually work. I asked him to walk to the room with us to make sure we could get in, and I immediately asked if we could have a different room. It was hot, dirty, in a back building, and nothing like the pictures online. He said there were no other rooms available (didn't even bother to check). Come to find out a/c in our room didn't work! If we tried turning it on, it sounded like someone was hitting it with a hammer. There was no soap in the room, and the bathroom had hairs everywhere like it hadn't been cleaned. At night with no working a/c, we heard loud party music past 3am.

On a positive note, the location was within walking distance to French Quarter and has gated parking for $30/night.

I have stayed in boutique/historic hotels in various cities in the USA and in Europe so I thought that I knew what to expect when I made this reservation. Sadly, this hotel was a major disappointment and our stay only continued to get worse. First of all, our "King Deluxe" room was so absurdly small that we could not fully open the entry door because it hit the bed. The room also smelled like urine and the odor became more pungent in the heat of the day. We asked if we could get a different room but we were told that it was the only one available. We decided to make the best of it, but after a few days of being in such cramped quarters we were counting the hours until we could get out of that room. It was also an unpleasant surprise to learn that there were no housekeeping services being provided due to Covid, although when we visited there were no other Covid restrictions or precautions in place. I also had to make numerous requests for clean towels and toilet paper since there were not any extra supplies in the room. And, while I trust that the towels had been laundered, they smelled musty, looked dingy, and one of the "clean" bathmats had black marks all over it. In addition, the water pressure in the bathroom sink was very low and the water took several minutes to warm up; the Wifi didn't work; the TV was erratic; and the AC fluctuated between too cold and swamp. Also, the public spaces were dingy and nothing looked clean. Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience and one I will never repeat. The only bright spot was Yary. She was a sweetheart and did her best to make us feel welcome.

This is not really hotel. It is group of rooms in nearby buildings. The entrance is in need of refreshing and deep cleaning. You register upstairs. There is no elevator.
There is no one to help with bags. Fortunately we were in a first floor room in a building around back and across a street. There was no real window in our room- only one in the bathroom next to the high ceiling. There was no grab bar in the shower. How is this up to code? The bathroom was so small that the wastepaper basket was outside the door. The bed was comfortable. There was not even a chair in our room. The location is within walking distance of many New Orleans sites. Jazz clubs are a very short walk away. It's New Orleans and sometimes the walk back after dark seemed a little sketchy. I wished for better restaurants nearby but it was manageable.

Beware of room 216 at The Lamothe Hotel. If you are looking for a supernatural experience, than this is the room for you. If you want to rest after a long day visiting the French Quarters, find a different room/hotel. We had a four night reservation and decided to leave after night three. We checked out and told the front desk why we were leaving early, asked for a refund and were told refunds were only given 48 hours in advance. Exceptions should be given. One night, we saw a black mass low to the floor floating/scurrying from one room to the next which was unnerving. The next night, we saw the room next to us illuminate(its a two bedroom suite-our friend was sleeping in that room), felt something walk on a bed while sleeping, saw orbs floating on the walls, heard knocks coming from the room next to us when no one was in there, and then noticed a considerable drop in temperature in that same room. The activity ramped up as the night went on. Not to mention that there is a bolt in the door that does not bolt. Three women traveling felt unsafe as this room is in the back of the main hotel. We pushed the couch against the door for extra security and found it was filthy under the couch. We packed up, left for the day to do our excursions and decided we didn’t feel comfortable staying another night. That's when we came back to let the front desk know and ask for the refund. In doing research, this room is known to be the most haunted. This was not disclosed to us at check in and I believe it deserves a refund at check out if someone is not comfortable in that environment. I feel others should be warned as you might want to consider a different place to rest as refunds won’t be given if you have to pay to stay somewhere else in the end.

The positive.
The two women who checked us in - Carol and Gabby -were upbeat and so positive and welcoming. I really had high hopes because of them.
The courtyard is very inviting with a beautiful pool and fountain.
They have secure parking which is great!
The bed was comfortable and bedding was clean.
The negative.
Jay, the male employee who came on at 3 is an absolute nightmare. We couldn't get into the building to get our room key as he didn't answer the bell or the phone. Another guest happened to be leaving and let us in. Jay finally showed and gave us a key. We were in room 408 which is across the street behind the main building.
The room was large and has so much potential to be amazing. Floors that could be beautiful if refinished, a bathroom that is ok in size but the floor tiles are coming up due to a rotting floor.
The couch was stained and I refused to sit or put anything on it. The fireplace tile is broken and missing pieces.
Our sink was totally stopped up and would not drain at all. When talked to Jay at the front desk and asked for extra towels (they only give you two which is ridiculous), he stated he would "get them when he got around to it". Spoiler alert - he never got to it. This sink didn't get looked at either so bottled water was needed to brush teeth and we spit it out in the tub.
I will not stay again unless the property goes under some significant updates including a better way to get into the building for check in.
Again, the two women in the morning were amazing. Keep them at all costs!

They do not service rooms there at ALL. We requested that housekeeping come the first morning because the floor in the room was filthy and the bathroom wasn’t that clean either. They didn’t come. Nor did they come the second morning, or the third. No coffee replenished, no fresh towels, no cleaning at all. We spoke to two different staff members about this and sent an email to management too. Both staff members assured us that our room would be cleaned. It never was, not once in four nights there. We spoke to two other couples at the hotel and they also reported that they never got their rooms serviced either. in fact, one couple said they had had a flood in their room during a bad rainstorm and had to mop up the water themselves with towels, no one from the hotel would help them.

Beyond that, the place is generally run-down, and we were given a windowless bedroom (we requested quiet, not windowless) without being informed about that during booking, that we were unable to change because the place was full. The bed had a very old mattress, mangy old sheets, and lumpy pillows. We also had the smallest bathroom I’ve ever seen, with zero storage, no holder for toilet paper, a shower gel bottle that was completely empty when we got there, and a toilet that ran on and off all night. There was a swimming pool, that looked dirty, and a hot tub that was not even lukewarm.

On our last night, we demanded fresh towels so we could shower and got them, also coffee pods. The concierge on duty swore that he would bring coffee pods to our room later that night. It never happened. We checked out early the next morning.

The only good thing about this place is the location.

I understand that this used to be a great place to stay, but it’s one to avoid at present.

The best thing I can say about Lamothe is LOCATION! There is a short walk to Frenchman Street. Unfortunately location is the only plus we felt about this hotel. The staff was very uninterested in us as guests, perhaps because we booked through a 3rd party. The receptionist seemed bothered to have to check us in and another receptionist was surly when we requested a hairdryer and more towels. The door to our room didn't even open completely as the bed was in the way which didn't feel safe in case of an evacuation. The toilet was dirty upon our arrival. The door wasn't completely sealed, thus all the noises outside felt like they were in our room. I don't expect a historic building to be spotless, but the hotel felt dirty and unkept. If you are mostly looking for location, you would be pleased, but if you want service I think you would likely be disappointed.
