Detailed Reviews
I stayed at the HI Hostel in New Orleans because i am a member of Hostelling International. This facility was massive, with an ample amount of dorms, a huge kitchen, and a few large communal hang out areas. I booked a bed last minute and was glad to find out they had vacancies. The dorms are incredibly clean and modern, and surprisingly quiet for a hostel. This is a better quality hostel for people who want a quiet peaceful atmosphere as opposed to a raucous party vibe. Its centrally located in the heart of downtown New Orleans. The only issue is they dont have parking. What they have is a parking structure down the block that lets you park for a discount of $10/night. Dont trust street parking as its all metered and they will tow your car. Overall, this is a great hostel and actually one of the nicest HI hostels I've ever been to. I stay in a lot of hostels in my travels and HI is synonymous with high quality, cleanliness, and prime locations.

I've stayed in a lot of hostels in the US, and this one is among the best.
The bunk beds in the shared room are well designed for privacy, with a privacy curtain, a small space for valuables about your head, reading lamp. The twin mattresses were hotel-quality and the down comforter was a comforting touch. Individual bathrooms and showers are abundant;I didn't have to wait more than couple minutes in the morning.
Beautiful lobby, huge shared kitchen, great staff. Will stay there again.

Stayed in a family room with four of us, and really enjoyed this economical and comfortable hostel. Friendly staff and guests, and security is good. I would feel safe here as a single woman. Breakfast can be great or lacking depending on which staff are working. One day there were fresh banana muffins and another day cold coffee and no napkins. But you can bring your own food to prepare, or wander a few blocks for beignets. Easy walk to anywhere in the French quarter, and a trolley ride from mid city, garden or other neighborhoods. Restaurants, bars, pharmacies- anything you need is walking distance. Taxi from the airport to the hostel is a set rate, ask at the taxi stand. Staff are knowledgeable- ask for recommendations on food, transit or anything else you need. Would definitely stay here again.

I have had just one prior hostel experience and it was good, so when I looked at prices for hotels in New Orleans, I decided it was time for my second hostel experience. I'm glad I chose the HI Hostel. As a solo woman traveler in my 60s, I felt comfortable even with younger women in the same shared 4 person room. I felt just as welcomed as any other traveler. Privacy was great when needed with the curtains that I could close, as well as outlets for charging both next to my bunk and in my locker which opened with my key card. Everything was clean and comfortable. Locked storage available for those arriving before the official check in time. The neighborhood was just a bit dicey but as long as you are careful you should be fine. Close enough to the French Quarter for an easy walk. I would recommend the HI Hostel to all!

I just returned from my 2nd stay at the Hi New Orleans Hostel, & once again have nothing but great things to report. Fantastic location on Canal Street in the middle of everything--Bourbon Street, Harrah's Casino, Louis Armstrong Park, and the French Quarter are all a short stroll away, while the famed New Orleans Street cars are literally in front of the hostel. The staff is super-friendly & helpful, and they keep the entire premises (and most importantly the bathrooms!) spotlessly clean. This is a very safe, clean, comfortable, place to stay in New Orleans at a great price.

Thank you so much for leaving this wonderful feedback about our hostel. Beyond just mere metrics, clicks, and likes, this really means a lot to us all! While we are certainly have not attained perfection by any stretch of the imagination, it makes us feel special when our hard work and dedication is recognized like this. I am incredibly delighted with the wonderful team we have here, the pride they put into their work, and the level of empathy and compassion they show our guests. I am happy we could provide a clean, comfortable, and friendly place to stay for you. We hope to see you back again soon! Sincerely, Mike

Here is the email they ignored;
Hello
I was absolutely robbed at this location. I calmly turned the place up side down. Asked the front desk. Even went for a walk to clear my head.
It just seems odd that it happened during the house keepers schedule.
I was definitely in the room when they were cleaning the linen and I said “oh sorry, I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to be in here (while they were cleaning)” because I didn’t know that. This is the first time I’ve ever stayed here.
I used my locker and left.
Please help me understand why when I came back the $100 bill that I had in my front pocket of my bag had gone missing? Also missing is a $50 vanilla gift card.
The $100 bill and the gift card are nowhere to be found. It’s been like 7 hours. Trust me, I’ve searched.
I tried to call your customer service and no one picked up. It went to a random voicemail.
Your company is very small. Which means you’re easy to level out in court.
Thank you

Great location, very comfy beds, nice staff, yummy complimentary breakfast, great lounge : this place has it all! The security is excellent, the rooms and bathrooms are clean, the bunk beds in my dorm were sturdy and each bed had a privacy curtain. Towels are included, and the room key unlocks your allocated locker: so convient!

This place is incredible! I booked a private room with bathroom. I was impressed with how clean the room and bathroom were. The kitchen is huge and offers every gadget you can imagine. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.
Very safe for solo female travelers.
The street car stops right near the hostel which makes getting around the French Quarter really easy.
Excellent place to stay at a really great price.

The hostel is incredibly clean and modern, bathrooms get cleaned twice a day (and there are plenty in every floor). Breakfast is complementary, they had 3 types of cereal, different oatmeal packages, bread and bagels, yogurt, juice and hard boiled eggs. There is also a coffee/tea station open 24/7 right next to the breakfast table. Staff was helpful and very polite.

The hostel itself is nice and clean, the free breakfast is great and there is tea and coffee station for during the day.
The bed was nice, clean and comfy, great lockers and point to charge my phone, however our dorm floor was pretty messy and dirty, but that might be more down to room mates.
The location is easy and central, easy walk from the airport bus and about 15-20 to the French Quarter however I did not feel safe in the area. We were on the edge of a rough part of town. I was told not to walk north or east of the accommodation. I saw a robbery happen outside one morning and there a number of homeless and others hanging outside. I felt safe once inside though.
