The Ayung Resort is a breathtaking, mystique and unique lifestyle hotel, perched high up on the bank of a mostly untouched tropical mountain rainforest gorge, in the traditional Balinese village of Payangan Ubud, surrounded by the gentle, spiritual tranquility and pace of Balinese life. Along this serene 8 hectares rain forest domain runs The Ayung, Bali’s most sacred mountain river. In the rocks of the hotels pathways and along it’s 600 meters long riverbank fronting the Ayung Resort, 250 of the finest Balinese Stone Carvers have painstakingly worked, for over a 2 year period,to carve the spectacular Hindu mythologies, Ramayana and Mahabharata amongst others. These stone carvings have become the most sought after photo opportunity of the hotel.

Nestled away from the hustle of Ubud, Ayung Resort Ubud earns rave reviews for its serene setting and tranquil atmosphere, surrounded by rainforest and offering cooler climes. Guests frequently commend the hotel's attentive and friendly staff, who are known for their professionalism and personalized service.
While travelers are generally impressed by the cleanliness and the amenities, including private pools and excellent food, opinions on the rooms and value are mixed; some find the rooms dated and the pricing high, despite the premium services.

Wow what a hidden gem. We absolutely loved this hotel. Nestled in the jungle with beautiful manicured gardens and such calming surroundings. We were staying in the lower rooms near the second pool and enjoyed the walk up the winding driveway to our breakfast each morning even though there is a free buggy we could use. Even the walk down to the river was so beautiful and peaceful. Special mention must be made to the restaurant staff and food. We loved the extra effort they made in making sure all the food was delivered to our table a the same time. We were a family of 6 and our meals always came at the same time. They had free afternoon tea from 4-6pm which we enjoyed 1 of the days. We took mozzie sprays but the hotel looked after this place so well that we didn't need the sprays much. Can't fault this hotel at all. We will definitely be back.

Our experience at the Ayung Resort Ubud was nothing short of amazing. The staff were incredible, the villa exceptional, and the food was excellent.
The staff were always ready to support a request of any kind and had no problem quickly responding to anything we asked.
Our villa felt completely private from any other building in the resort, and the infinity pool was pristine and well maintained.
The spa was reasonably priced with excellent service. A little bit of fun was had when visiting wild monkeys would stop by to make a mess, ha.
Overall, if you’re debating a spot to stay in Bali and are looking for 5-star accommodations in a tranquil, rainforest-like environment, I highly recommend that you choose Ayung Resort.
Lastly, there are extremely loud cicadas during the rainy season that are all across Bali. It is an alarming noise at first, but after a few days it becomes almost peaceful and lullaby-like.

We stayed a couple of nights in this really nice resort. The location is fantastic right in the middle of the Bali rainforest and quite close to Ubud. Our bungalow was fabulous: very large, a private pool, stunning views over the rainforest, separate dining/sitting/sleeping areas, really nicely decorated, … I spotted a monkey walking on the roof of the bungalow.
The resort complex is superb as well with great pools, a gym, a fantastic restaurant with spectacular views over the rainforest and the best Indonesian food I had till date. Breakfast is served from that restaurant as well and is also really good with a breakfast menu having lots of choices and food being served vs a buffet. The stone carvings are very impressive and only those would justify a stay in this resort. Small electric vehicles can take you to different areas of the resort.
Depending on traffic, Ubud is 10-30 minutes away and the hotel by car and the hotel offered a free transfer service. That makes this resort even better i.e. enjoy Ubud and everything it has to offer while staying a quiet and relaxing location very close and in the middle of the rainforest.
Highly recommended.

We booked a Deluxe Rainforest Pool Villa with private pool, but were given one without a jot of privacy: the resort restaurant overlooked the pool, giving patrons a perfect bird's eye view of our honeymoon-style pool intimacy. As for the pool, it was not even vaguely an "infinity pool" as promised, and the area more generally (even disregarding the privacy issue) looked like a second-cousin at best of the one pictured on the website! After considerable negotiation we were downgraded (no refund) to a less expansive, smaller Valley Pool Villa, which did have the required privacy, although the view was more of the next villa's roof than the actual forest. Not one word of apology.
The villa itself, while smaller than the one we had booked and paid for, was pleasant, although there were issues. Just two bath towels, just hanging space for one. A small old-style wardrobe, exactly six coat-hangers. An air-con unit permanently set on "freezing", but when attended to by staff, permanently set on "off". As for the laundry: submit by 9am and wait until 7pm the NEXT day? You must be joking!
The highlight was the restaurant (although only one exists, not the two boasted about on the website), in particular the Indonesian offerings in the evening. Everything very good and served by lovely and thoughtful staff. The Western food was more hit and miss, and the breakfast was mostly miss -- orange juice that tasted like it was direct from a supermarket, scrambled eggs that were oily and solid, not light, fluffy and buttery. Just ordinary.
Without the booking issue I think I would have rated this 4-star. But we only booked here because of what the website promised, and it was deceptive. There are other excellent resorts in the area... and it galls me to have been lured into booking one before the others under false pretenses.

Ayung Resort is built into the side of a valley and its location is its most spectacular feature. It’s quiet, secluded and almost spiritual. Just gazing at the jungle was such a special experience.
The staff are really exceptional. Yuliana works in the main restaurant and she was fantastic. She remembered our names and greeted us every morning for breakfast. The breakfasts were fantastic- really enjoyed the nasi goreng and fruit plates. Also enjoyed several dinners including crispy duck and some great pasta dishes.
We also loved swimming in the pool, enjoying that view and seeing monkeys playing in the trees.
We left feeling rested and rejuvenated thoroughly delighted with our stay. Three days later, the night before we were due to fly home, I realised I had left my Bose headphones at the resort. I messaged them at 11pm and Guest Services Attendant Teams arranged for them to be delivered to the airport at 9am the next day. Again, just spectacular service and well beyond what I was expecting. Thank you so much.

Set in the rain forest, this hotel is outside Ubud and quite remote. We staying for 4 nights and loved it! We had a room in the actual hotel (there are villas in the grounds) which overlooked the swimming pool. The room was lovely - big 4 poster bed, lovely bathroom, very clean with all you’d want with great views of the rain forest. The staff are delightful - they always used our names, always so friendly and beautifully dressed in traditional uniforms. The food was the best we’ve ever had on holiday (we’ve done a separate review on this), suffice to say, delicious and all freshly cooked. They also do afternoon tea between 4-6 which is included in your stay, again delicious. I had a Balinese massage with Sri, just wonderful (bit steep down to the spa but they took me and picked me up). We also had a half day tour with Yogi, which was great even though it rained! Some great information and took me to where I wanted to go. We also did the cookery class and made a traditional Balinese meal with the brilliant chef Landra and his helpers, which we thoroughly enjoyed, and then ate the results, delicious, we learnt so much about their spices and food. The swimming pool was nice, quite warm and padded sun beds and parasols. Also monkeys around tho didn’t bother us. It was very quiet as end of rainy season, and we found all the staff to be friendly and attentive. We had a very early checkout after having to stay an extra day due to ferrys not running (very pleased to have this) and they provided us both with breakfast boxes to take with us - nothing was too much trouble, and the prices were remarkably cheap! We’ve missed leaving there, and would like to compliment the management and staff for our wonderful stay at this remarkable hotel in the middle of the rain forest, thank you.🙏

My wife and I visited this incredible resort as part of a vacation to celebrate an important milestone. Everything about this resort was amazing. The people working there were all delightful. My wife had a massage at the resort that she reported to me was the best massage she has ever had in her life (and she has had many massages around the world). The food at the restaurant overlooking the incredible jungle below was astoundingly good. The place has the feel of an old world resort, down to the afternoon tea in the cozy, cool lower dining area. The location of this resort is fabulous because it is a bit out of the busy main Ubud area, AND its elevation makes it actually cool in the evening. Extremely pleasant. Enjoy the wildlife around you, including the monkeys in the trees nearby. The monkeys created quite a show one morning right outside our room. Our room was fantastic and the furniture was comfortable. The pathways around the exquisite grounds can be a bit hilly, but worry not. If you like, you can always call for a cart to come and retrieve you to bring you to or from dinner or to the lobby area. In fact, they encourage it. My wife and I generally liked the walks, even with the inclines, and staff would spot us walking and attempt to retrieve us, even though we did not need to be retrieved. We both enjoyed the walk and appreciated the concern. The grounds are worth a walk through though if you can. The staff was amazing in general, and were quite helpful with us when we realized that we may have left a sim card behind in the room. They found it and offered to ship it to us. Amazing service from an amazing place. Traveling into Ubud for the day is about 30 minutes in to town. You can use the provided shuttle bus or you can just order a grab (version of Uber). The grabs are very inexpensive. Coming back to the resort from town can be a bit longer because of traffic, so keep that in mind, but the distance to this resort is well worth it. This is an incredible place to return to at the end of a day in the sometimes frenetic Ubud. Quite relaxing. Amazing. You are making the right decision if you are thinking of this place. Oh, and delicious breakfasts were included.

We have been there many times. Service, food and accommodation are always excellent. The grounds are beautiful and the monkeys and squirrels delightful. The rooms are luxurious and clean with balcony overlooking the grounds and where the screams of the people taking rafts down the rapids can be heard. The swimming pool is fully accessible and drinks service provided there. There are many interesting activities provided. Thank you, Ayung for another relaxing stay.

The resort was absolutely spectacular!! It’s complete taking to be surrounded by jungle. The staff was beyond amazing and they make you feel like royalty, taking care of anything you need and at your beck and call at a moments notice. They took care of everything when we went white ate rafting, managed all of our transport when we visited down town ubud and where responsive to anything we needed. The food for breakfast was incredible, it’s like a full plated buffet with gourmet food, fresh fruits, juices and a variety to eat. The dinners were equally great and the service is wonderful. We also went to the spa and we got a 2 hour treatment (massage, facial, foot reflexology) for literally less than it cost just for a massage in the states. We were totally 100% blown away at our experience and out of all the places we could have chosen to stay we are so grateful we chose this because we had an amazing time!!!

Immerse yourself in the lush rainforest gardens at this resort, where cicadas enhance the ambience of the buildings architecture. The professionally trained staff, attentive to every detail and preference, ensure a personalized service. The resort has thoughtfully designed surroundings, scattered artworks, and an absolutely no-rush service ethos.
Savor expertly prepared meals, from breakfast of fresh fruit and expertly made egg dishes to delicious pancakes washed down with excellent coffee, all while overlooking the stunning jungle valley. Indulge in a poolside burger or enjoy afternoon tea with bitesize snacks in the lounge, accompanied by the soft valley breeze. Activities include swimming in one of the large pools, enjoying massages or exploring the meandering garden paths. Find the fountain, the rock carvings and the local monkeys.
Ideal for those seeking a premium but understated service delivered in an atmosphere of gentle luxury with hints of old world charm. Rather than a modern, sterile hotel environment, Ayung Resort offers a generous, comfortable stay reminiscent of a visit to a "well to do" Uncle and Aunty's tropical villa in the care of their personal staff.

Although I saw the private villas, I'm not sure how private the pools are. I suppose the fact that I couldn't see the pools, may mean that they are private?

Ubud is quite far from the coast and traffic is terrible. We started out on the coast (Nusa Dua, Seminyak) and it took us two hours by car to get to our Ubud hotel. I'd recommend staying on the coast if you want beach then heading to Ubud, or rent a car for the day and have driver take you around.
