One of Bali's best-kept secrets, Alila Manggis is a secluded, stylish seaside resort in Manggis, East Bali. Set amidst a coconut grove, the resort nestles between the sea and the majestic Mount Agung, Bali's most sacred mountain. All rooms and suites face the ocean with clear views across the straits to Nusa Penida. A contemporary interpretation of traditional Balinese architecture is artfully combined with modern amenities to create a relaxed environment in harmony with its natural surroundings.

My wife and I decided to have a final holiday before the arrival of our first child (she was ~6 months pregnant at the time), and decided to splurge by booking a 5 night getaway through Luxury Escapes. Soon after booking our trip we were contacted directly by the resort regarding transfer details, and any spa treatments and/or experiences we'd like to organise. Brochures were emailed, and from that point we were able to easily and painlessly organise our trip. Responses were quick, informative and made us feel very much at ease.

On arrival at Denpasar Airport we were greeted by a driver from the resort, and transferred in a clean, air-conditioned car; cold water and towels were also provided - appreciated given how you may feel getting off the plane and feeling the heat. I should add that the return transfer from the resort to the airport was just as accomodating and hassle-free. At the resort, our bag was taken to our room and we were sat down with refreshments to confirm our inclusions. Staff were polite and first impressions of the resort were that it was clean, well run and the helpfulness of the staff gave us the confidence that we would have no problems having any issue attended to during our stay.

Our suite was was immaculate, and every day it was cleaned and turned down for the night without fail. Additionally the bottled water in the room was replenished each day, and the balcony was also swept and kept tidy as part of the daily housekeeping service. The enormous bed was comfortable and we had no issue drifting off to sleep peacefully each night after a delicious meal at the Sea Salt restaurant. Meals at the restaurant were amazing, with staff being friendly, courteous and more than happy to chat about our trip and tell us more about the resort and the surrounding area.

During our time at Alila Manggis we used the Alila Spa extensively. Every treatment was professionally done and we felt ever so relaxed after every one. My wife felt especially comfortable given her pregnancy, and so we're thankful that the spa had the treatments and arrangements to accomodate for her. Additional to the spa, we can highly recommend the East of Bali and Authentic Balinese Spices experiences!

I did see another review mention ants, and yes there were some but we could also see people carrying out sprays around the complex. We also spoke to reception who took the matter seriously, and when we returned later that day the room was clean and free of ants! :)

I recently spent 5 nights at the Alila Mangiss and would return again tomorrow if I could. Although it's a little dated and the rooms are a little on the small side, the boutique resort feels like a home away from home. It's very quiet and peaceful, set amongst a coconut grove, and gives you the feeling that you're away from it all. The service here is impeccable, with lovely welcoming staff and also at the Seasalt Restaurant. Breakfast was a delight each day with a full a la carte menu and even Jamu (traditional Indonesian medicine drink). We also enjoyed Balinese Megibung at Seasalt Restaurant, a share platter with a variety of dishes served on a timber stand that gave us a great sample of the local cuisine. There is a Yoga pavilion located right near the seaside so most mornings you can do a yoga class with the gentle sea breeze keeping you cool. The swimming pool is amazing with gorgeous palm tree reflections. I indulged in a divine massage in a seaside bale at the Day Spa. My room was on the ground floor with a terrace that opened up onto the pool area. There were day beds both inside the room and out on the terrace. The bathroom had a large shower and separate toilet, with a good sized vanity basin outside. The bathroom offered beautiful locally made natural toiletries that were absolutely beautiful. The hotel is located only a short distance from the town of Candidasa and offers a shuttle service on a regular basis. There is also another Day Spa situated across the road that offer cheaper prices than the Spa at the hotel.

If you are looking for a boutique resort, that is peaceful, staff that are receptive to your needs, then I can recommend this place. The manicured lawns are great ti walk barefoot on, the wellness area overlooks the ocean, daily activities such as yoga, tai chi, meditation and Qi Gong. Rooms are small, but has large day. beds on balcony. The 2 rooms that I stayed in need to be updated and refreshed. We upgraded to the suite, it was spacious and well positioned at the waters edge. with a wrap around balcony Pillows were great in both rooms, however, mattresses may need to be replaced. The bar at the waters edge is also a great place to relax. In summary, all the staff were wonderful and would be one of the reasons that I would return. And of course the spa treatments. I do hope the wellness activities continue to grow as this would be another key reason for me to return and/or recommend Alila Manggis. Thank you to all the staff for genuinely caring and making such a great effort to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.

This is a wonderful place to visit, the staff are dedicated to excellent service and remember your special needs ( one of us is diabetic) so the sourdough was remembeed by some individual waiting staff. The rooms need a bit of tender loving, particularly the lighting at the wash basin where shaving or applying makeup was difficult. The welcome was genuine and nothing was a bother for the team to arrange. You can hear the waves breaking on the shore at the end of the garden but there is no beach available but the pool is a welcome alternative. I would certainly recommend this over the Alila Ubud which I have also reviewed.

Dear beefy10_10, Thank you for sharing this wonderful review with other travelers. We are very delighted to hear that our team is doing excellent service and created a memorable experience for you. The beach is indeed not our highlight as we are seaside resort, but one of the most beautiful beaches in Bali, The White Sand Beach, is just a 20 minutes drive from our hotel. We have noted the feedback on room and we will take action in all the areas that are within our hands, as well as share it with our owners for future improvement. We look forward to welcome you back home very soon.

Just returned minutes ago from an awesome weekend getaway at Alila Manggis. The hotel is located about an hour east from Sanur in East Bali and has everything to exceed everyone's needs. Settled in the middle of lush gardens with a beautiful view of the sunset - it's a stunning quiet oasis.

The staff is very attentive and ensuring that you really enjoy your time!

From a great a la carte breakfast to several provided options for lunch and snacks (room service, pool, seasalt restaurant), followed by complimentary afternoon tea before enjoying a beautiful dinner with authentic local or also international cuisine, the team each time exceeded our expectations! Thank you for looking after us!

The hotel also does offer several complimentary activities such as Yoga and others which we also can highly recommend to join.

Last but not least - the view of the resort is just amazing, located at a very quiet area, directly at the ocean with a beautiful and well maintained pool and garden area.

We will be back for sure!

Located in East Bali away from the tourist haunts. The Alila Manggi provides a unique experience not just because of the location, venue and view but the team at the resort are second to none. If you're looking for a few real days of R&R and endless spa treatments from smiling and incredibly hospitable people then look no further. You'll also love the local food. That's all we've eaten. Including for breakfast!

It was very nice to stay here. We stayed for two nights and everything was great here. The resorts has an island-style natural atmosphere, making us very privately welcomed and relaxed. The room was also great with natural colors and nice wooden furnitures. The breakfast was also very fresh, delicious and good for relaxed feeling.
With quiet and peaceful environment, we really enjoyed our holidays. Swimming pool was very safe and clean, managed by staff all the time.

The beach bar and yoga pod have great views to enjoy. They are really beachfront.

If you are looking for great place to stay in Bali, but don't want to be bothered noises and busy streets, this is a great place to stay in all occassions with family and/or friends.

I would use the hotel. The drivers are excellent and speak English or I can recommned an excellent driver that picked us up at the airport. He speaks English, nice car and he will text you pictures of himself and where he is standing with the sign ( there are typically hundreds of drivers/cabs )
