Greystone Lodge On the River is often commended for its pristine cleanliness and friendly service, with guests enjoying the serene river views from comfortable rooms. While the central location is a highlight, providing effortless access to Gatlinburg's attractions, some guests find the area noisy and crowded. Opinions are divided on the value, with some finding it affordable, yet others are less impressed with the amenities and breakfast. Noise levels from traffic and neighboring entertainment venues have been a concern for many seeking tranquility.

We traveled with friends and both couples felt the same way, this is the cleanest place we have ever stayed. We love to travel and we have stayed at a lot of establishments, but the Greystone was very clean. It even got to the point where we (as a group) were looking for something dusty! The people were very nice, the location could not have been better for a Gatlinburg trip. Even with the trolley stopping at the front door we never rode anywhere. The location was so perfect that we just walked. The breakfast was good, everything was fresh, biscuits were very good and they had warm donut-holes....
The rooms are good sized and the balcony is a nice thing, we enjoyed the sound of the steam running by our room. Furniture is dated and tv small for the space, but it was all spotless. An interesting little notation of meticulousness even the microwave and room clocks were set at the correct time! Overall a job well done for a place that has been around since the1940's. Thumbs up!!

We stayed a couple of days and wanted to be within walking distance to most attractions in Gatlinburg. The Greystone Lodge did not disappoint. The room is small but exactly what you need for a mini vacation. Room has mini fridge, microwave, queen bed that was soft, and a walk on balcony. Laundry is available on the 1st floor by the elevators and vending/ice machines. Parking is in a garage that is right outside of the rooms which makes it a breeze unpacking/packing. You park your car, use your key card to enter a hallway that leads to the rooms. Anakeesta and Ripley's aquarium is right next door along with a trolley stop if you do want to venture outside of walking distance. We parked our car and was able to walk to most attractions. Breakfast is not available here due to the COVID regulations but with the location food is walking distance in both directions. The place was clean, quiet, and exactly what we were looking for. We stayed in room 371 and I have attached some pictures of the room, view, and bathroom. We will be back next year and years to come!

I was looking for a last minute reservation for a one night Gburg visit close to the new Chesapeake's restaurant (I'll review it-separately-but YES!). Initial contact (Melanie?) was so easy and so helpful. On arrival it was busy but I was helped quickly. I know some reviewers mention parking issues or difficulty but we had no issues parking in Parking Garage 1. I WILL say though that it had a lower clearance than probably any parking garage I've been in. It was just enough for us in a Ford Expedition with large tires, but I was sweating it under some beams (especially the one with the PVC pipe(!) and the lift gate almost hit the ceiling when we opened it (it didn't-but was close!)

The room is just inside the parking garage, accessed off a hallway. The hotel uses a great cleaner and air freshener so we were greeted with a VERY pleasant "clean" small in the hall and then in the room. The room was very clean and crisp (bed sheets were almost "military" tight!) The heat/air was controlled by a wall thermostat AND/OR direct control on the unit. Also, (unlike some other motels/hotels) the thermostat seemed accurate (cutting off at what actually felt like 70 degrees), was not overly loud, and did not have any unpleasant odors.

Beds were firm (firmer than I like but okay). The room was clean (I'm very critical of bathrooms especially) and well supplied.

Perhaps most noteworthy was HOW QUIET this hotel room was for sleep after 9pm, considering the location.

We stayed at Greystone Lodge for the first time this October. We were happy with our accommodations even though at first we were concerned about being located in the farthest building from the Parkway. It was quite a walk to get to the Parkway, but the advantages made the long walk more tolerable. It was a lot more quiet, the parking was not as crowded, we had a nice view of the creek from our balcony and we got to see some wildlife. All of the staff we had contact with were very friendly and glad to help, the room was clean and had all the amenities we needed such as a refrigerator, hair dryer, and microwave. The location of the Greystone Lodge is great right in the middle of all Gatlinburg has to offer, directly across the Parkway from Anakeesta. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go They had a limited menu breakfast buffet that was included with our stay. We will definitely stay at Greystone Lodge on our next trip to Gatlinburg.

The Good: 1) A great location as others have said; right on the main parkway and easy walks to so many restaurants, the trolley and attractions. 2) Incredible friendly personnel and staff; pretty sure it is family owned/independent. Staff go out of their way to be helpful and attentive. 3) Quiet and peaceful for the most part. Lots of seniors staying here so little or no noise around the hallways and property at night. 4) Free breakfast, nothing fancy, but adequate. 5) Strict parking rules that staff guards every day but that works in your favor as you always have a spot. 6) Plenty of luggage dollies for each lodge section ( something always lacking at other places). 7) Oversized mini fridges, not the tiny ones, in your room. 8) Spacious rooms and baths with comfy beds and lots of pillows, very clean 9) An obvious renovation of the inside of this older property that helps it appear updated, lots of outlets for phones and chargers, etc, nice linens. 10) The room rates are a very good value for this location.
The Not so Good: 1) Despite the obvious renovations, there is still an odd feel to the place, just a little disjointed I guess, as additional buildings were added maybe? And the hallway carpet in our building ( the last up on top of the hill) was really worn and dingy. The overall old school lodge look is hard to update if you stay with old dark colors, as they chose to do here. The rooms with fireplaces are already dark with all that stone and need lighter colors on the walls instead of the dark taupe and weird dark blue they use. The air units are old floor type and ours rattled like a freight train. In a room this spacious, they should upgrade the tv as well; we had a small ( maybe 32" ?) and it was not HD. And there are no premium channels either. 2) The breakfast is free and again, is adequate, but it is much too crowded in peak season in their small dining area. Tennessee has no mask requirements now and folks were just packed in there all morning.
This seems to be a popular return place for lots of senior visitors and we would probably consider it again on another visit because of the value and location, despite the few negatives I listed.

We have stayed at Greystone several times over the last 5 years because it is a great location, you can walk all around downtown and they provide breakfast. This year was disappointing, they are not serving breakfast because of covid 19 and they are not giving you a discount (when asked about a discount, the front desk person stated that the reason they don't give a discount is because they don't charge for breakfast but really we all know they do it is built into the room charge). Why does the sign out front state free breakfast? If they are serving a hot breakfast why are they giving you a sack breakfast with pre-packaged food? Our room was on the river with a balcony but who wanted to sit out when your view was of the back of the trashy building across the river. Even as a repeat customer our room price was more than the aarp price on their website. The air conditioner was quite noisy when it was running. We go to Gatlinburg about once a year and I think we will try a new place the next time we go.

We are saddened to hear that you had a disappointing stay with us! Unfortunately, we are unable to offer our complimentary continental breakfast buffet at this time do to our local government restrictions regarding Covid-19. Since our breakfast closure is temporary, we have not changed our permanent sign out by the road. We have noted on our website, phone hold message, confirmation letters, signage by the front door, breakfast room, and front desk, as well as on the reminder letter we send prior to arrival and in the letter that we provide guest upon arrival about our operational changes due to Covid-19. Additionally, we let all of our guest know that call in to make a reservation directly with us that we are unable to serve breakfast. We have worked diligently to ensure that our guest are informed of the changes prior to arrival and apologize for any misunderstanding that occurred. Unfortunately, we do not have any control over the views across the river from our property. Our guest always mention how much they love relaxing on their balcony while listening to and watching the river below. We hate to hear that this was not the case for your stay. If we would have been made aware of the issues with your air conditioner while you were here we would have been more than happy to have had maintenance address it. However, we were not given that opportunity. We hope that you will change your mind and will give us another chance to regain your business the next time you are in Gatlinburg! Kindest regards, the Greystone Lodge on the River

I have stayed here a couple of other times and love the location. It is right off the main street so walking Gatlinburg is easy from here but you don't have the noise from all the traffic. It is also right at the end of the bypass so if traffic is bad in town you can just shoot up the mountain and miss all the hassle. We stayed in a room that overlooked the creek and watched the ducks in the mornings. I have back problems and usually don't sleep well when out of town cause the beds are usually horrible, but not this time. The beds are wonderful they are extremely comfortable and have plenty of pillows. We drank coffee in our room and the ladies in house keeping was very nice when I asked for more coffee and cups (the coffee pot only make 4 cups at a time so kinda small). Everything seemed to be spotless with covid on the rise they seem to taking extra precautions and extra steps on keeping everything cleaned and sanitized. There wasn't a single person working there that didn't have a mask on, and while I know they can be very irritating every employee was still extremely nice speaking and telling you hello when walking by. Even with covid they are still severing their hot breakfast bar, and you still have to wear you mask while getting your food. But they have some very nice ladies working there also that are keeping everything stocked and cleaned.. We usually stay in cabins when we go but if I do stay in a hotel this is the only one I will stay in.

We really enjoyed staying in one of the 2-bedroom cottages (#800) that the Greystone Lodge offers. The price was right, each bedroom had its own bathroom (all upstairs), and there was even a powder room on the main level. The cottage was very clean - even the furniture in the living area had been vacuumed before our arrival. There was an abundance of towels and toiletries. The cottages are about a mile from the main lodge downtown - far enough away that you don’t have all the noise of Gatlinburg but close enough to be convenient. And the best part is that you can park at the lodge since you’re a guest of their property so you don’t have to pay for exorbitant parking elsewhere!! A very nice plus!! We felt safe there as well. We also had access to the free continental breakfast and the swimming pool at the main lodge. And all the staff we saw were friendly and courteous and took pride in their jobs. We highly recommend checking out the Greystone Lodge and it’s cabins!

We spent four nights at the Greystone Lodge two weeks ago and really enjoyed our stay. Greystone is right in the middle of downtown Gatlinburg, and parking spaces are at a premium, so their parking garage and other spaces are one of the biggest benefits of staying there. The rooms were well-appointed and each one has a microwave and small refrigerator. Our room had a balcony overlooking the river, and since the weather was beautiful, we spent a lot of relaxing time there. After a brief hiatus, the continental breakfast was once again available, with items such as biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, pastries, juice and coffee. While we appreciated the fact that there was breakfast, we would not recommend it, largely due to the lack of Covid protocols around people walking around in close quarters without the masks that were supposedly required, and the lack of distancing. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay and would return if we come back to Gatlinburg.

We decided on a quick overnight trip to enjoy the Great Smoky NP. I booked the room only 2 days in advance. We had a room in the 400 building, overlooking the river. It was nice to sit outside and enjoy the sound of the rushing waters. The room was very clean and spacious enough for two. Breakfast had recently been resumed. Hotel staff were using necessary precautions. When inside we all wore masks. To enter the dining area, one needed to sanitize hands and put on disposable gloves to use while serving oneself. People automatically tried to distance with choices of seating. Food was decent. Not sure if fresh fruit is the norm, but they had fruit cocktail instead, gravy and biscuits, breads, cereals, yogurt, eggs. The hotel is just uphill from the Main Street so walking is definitely an option. We enjoyed our one night stay.
