Bad experience - old hotel

We stayed 3 days at the Doubletree Hilton.
We had a bad experience with the front desk, housekeeping and it’s a old hotel.
The hotel needs to be renovated and updated. Our room was ok, nothing special. Small bathroom, no refrigerator in room, room safe was broken, carpet worn, dirty walls in the wall, The first night the front desk could not get my room keys programmed until the next day.
Not enough towels in the rooms, had to go down to the front desk each day to get more towels. (Even after housekeeping came by that day)
Asked for housekeeping service at the front desk the first day before leaving for the day. No housekeeping visit that day.
No extras in lobby, no coffee,etc. If you get a coffee etc. they charged you for it.
We were traveling with another family but their room was really worn and walls were dirty. They refused to stay and when to another hotel.
Unless there is some renovations at this location we will not stay here again.

Hotel front desk staff was great. Very personable and accommodating. It would have been nice if the restaurant was open. The hotel is very dated. The rooms had a decent television but there was no refrigerator. The AC unit had 2 settings- full blast or not. It’s also very loud trying to sleep. It was a very old unit and looked like it belonged outside in a motel. The bathroom had a walk in shower that allowed all the water to drain into the rest of the bathroom. I had about an inch of water that accumulated around the bathroom. There was no breakfast included. For the price charged for rooms, quality of accommodations, no refrigerator, no breakfast, charged for parking, there’s too many reasons that this is an over priced hotel. You definitely don’t get what you could expect as standard in most other hotels that have a lower price point and are nicer accommodations.

For a Hilton property the condition was poor. The faucet and bathtub spout were separated from the wall. The wallpaper was Bubbled and the carpets dirty and worn. Beds worn out too and uncomfortable.
no maid service . Perhaps daily maid service is not offered, but it was not mentioned if that was the case.

I did hear that the hotel is to be refreshed and renovated by a new owner soon. It is way past due and should not have the doubletree name.

However the staff, especially Ashanti at check in desk were very pleasant and helpful.

I was there for the weekend. The staff was stellar with the exception of the one front desk person who checked me in and she was absolutely rude and provided no information or welcome information but Brittany, Susan, the bar staff and the waitress at the Provision Restaurant were wonderful. However the rooms are dirty, carpet stains, dirty tubs and so outdated. We requested towels that were never delivered and then when returning to our room to ask about them, we were told we would have to come downstairs to get them. This hotel needs renovated desperately. It is a shame that the accommodations are so bad with such great staff but you have to have both to meet the Hilton guarantee. I cannot recommend and even though I’ve been with Hilton for decades and am an owner twice over with HGV and Diamond member, I would stay at the Hyatt across the river if staying downtown JAX again.

We held our Navy Ship's 31st Association Reunion at the Double Tree on the Riverfront in Jacksonville in October of 2024. I worked with the Sales team to set up a block of rooms and a meeting room as well as a ballroom for a diner and dance. The sales staff are outstanding. They worked with me to make all the necessary arrangements and kept in constant communication as our event approached. As far as the Hotel itself, it was a little older but very clean and comfortable. The entire Hotel Staff, from the parking attendant, to the front desk, to the housekeeping staff were the nicest hotel staff I have ever encountered. The restaurant staff was just as exceptional as the rest of the staff. Our banquet meal was outstanding and the setup for our dinner/dance was beautiful. I would have given a 10 star review if allowed. Don't hesitate to book this wonderful Hotel for any kind of convention or event, or just to stay overnight.

This hotel gives the appearance of a high-end hotel but it's not. The dingy, dark, outdated rooms are in serious need of an update. The room is fairly clean but the dingy-ness of the room itself makes it feel dirty. There are nicks, dings and tears in all the furniture and fixings. I booked a premium room, a junior suite, which are either situated at the end of the hall (extremely noisy due to road traffic) or next to the elevator banks (which is where I was originally). All I heard was the elevators going up and down...how is anyone supposed to sleep like that? And that's a premium room? The walls are also thin so you hear everything in the next room and in the hallway. I had to sleep with earplugs. You have to pay for parking. Really? $200 a night and a Hilton Honors Gold member and I have to pay for parking? Ridiculous. They can get away with all of this because of the location. I travel frequently for work and I normally stay within the Hilton franchise. There are plenty of lower priced options that put this place to shame. Next time I'm in Jacksonville I'll be staying somewhere else.

The hotel needs some serious attention for upgrades/remodeling. The carpet is outdated and stained. There is no refrigerator in the room and no counter space in the bathroom. The water took forever to get warm in the shower, not hot at all. You can not open the shower door by the faucets, it is bolted shut. The patio door to the balcony did not have a handle making it very difficult to open it. The breakfast was great and the best part was the waitress, Ezzy. She made me iced latte and cook to order eggs and grits. Ashanti was also a jewel and was very accommodating with our checkout. There will have to be some major improvements before we would ever stay at this hotel in the future. Far below expectations for a Hilton brand hotel

PLEASE pay attention to other reviews of this property. Folks have MANY choices in downtown Jacksonville, and this property should be your last resort. My stay was coordinated by my work. Had it not been, I would have left.

The carpet in the room was beyond filthy; the upholstered chair was dirty. The sheet and mattress pad did not fit the mattress and kept popping off. The sheet was blotched by a massive "bleach stain." (It's a thing.)

Believe me, folks, my standards are pretty low and so that might give you an idea of how Price and Accommodation simply do not match up, for this property.

The shower sliding door opened from the "wrong" side, necessitating a climb into the tub to turn on the water. This was probably way a blackened dirt ring surrounded the front part of the tub: staff can't reach it, to clean.

The bathtub faucet dripped in a steady stream and was not addressed, after I asked for a maintenance call. Guests must upgrade for a room with a small refrigerator or microwave, and this is ridiculous. Even drive-up motels include these amenities, these days.

The workout area was lovely and the outdoor patio/pool area is VERY pleasant. I am just not sure that these two factors make up for the serious shortcomings.

I am reiterating what other guests have said on this site: Nothing new, here. Several other postings on this site include response messages from the GM of this property. Honestly, I suspect these responses are AI generated, the corporate vacuity and cynical expressions of regret and concern don't seem to result in any improvement.

All I'm saying is, downtown Jacksonville bustles with hotels: Avoid this property.

I was really looking forward to this hotel but unfortunately I left very disappointed. I came here for a conference. All the staff were extremely nice, from the bar and restaurant people to check-in ladies everyone was very nice. This hotel is very very old and has clearly been left untouched. The inside door of the elevator has the F word written on the door, the parking is very unsecure as none of the barriers are closed they are open and anyone can park there, the pool area is old and run down, the restaurant does not offer room service even though in the room it says room service is offered.

The worst part is the room. The balcony is nice with a great view of the river but you can see into your neighbors balcony and rooms because there is no wall in between each balcony. The room was falling apart. The wall paper peeling, cracked up floor in the shower, very dirty shower head, bed sheets that do not fit the bed and the mattress was exposed, dirty carpet, dirty furniture, the most uncomfortable mattress and pillows I have ever slept on at any hilton property in my life. The worst part of all is the noise, the walls are extrememy thin and even a low volume tv in the neighboring room is loud and clear in your room, the sliding glass doors to the balcony do not close well and do not lock. The noise from outside is the worst I have ever experienced at a hotel. The airconditioner is a wall unit and very loud and not the best.

The food at the restaurant was good and well priced just very limited options.

All in all I would not stay here again. The employees deserve much better, this is a poor environment to work in and stay in. The employees are excellent but the hotel is in a decrepit state of affairs. This hotel does not match hilton brand standards and a brand standards inspector needs to review this property as it does not meet the hilton standards.

Listen…I’m not sure how this hotel is still even in operation. The hotel rooms are extremely outdated, nasty, unkept, and not worth a third of the money charged nightly for the room. This is very much project housing/motel type accommodation. There were burn holes in the cheap wallpaper, EVERYTHING was dusty as if it had not been cleaned for months, the furniture and linens looked like it came from consignment stores, there was mold in the bathroom and something black leaking from the vent in the bathroom into the toilet that looked like old mold or ashes, there was no hot water for the shower, tub was dirty and had a permanent ring around it, they use the three sheet method for the bedding but even the sheets that form the barrier to the comforter that’s never washed was stained. The only reason I stayed the full night is because I arrived late and my reservation was only for one night. I did not sleep well at all. If I had driven I would have slept in my car. The only thing nice about the hotel was the river front view which I originally booked but was put in a regular room. I was then told I had to pack all my things back up and come back down as well as pay an additional fee to get an even crappier room on the 9th floor ( the one described) just with a view. I contemplated just sleeping on the balcony vs the terrible room. Once I saw the room, I threw away the cookie because I didn’t trust where it may have been baked!!! Extremely disappointing. The health department should be called. I’m sure there are several violations.

For the owner who may or may not respond…. I’m sure SEVERAL guests have already brought these issues to your attention but you still have not addressed the issues and you still continue to keep this horrific establishment open as a result and collect their money for these trash rooms. You have no intention of fixing these issues until you’re required to which I’m sure will be very soon.

I am not sure. If it is to the back then yes, but if it is facing the street then possibly not.

Yes there are walk out balconies on most rooms as I recall. The side of the hotel that faces the river (north?) all have direct river views
