The Southbank Hotel Jacksonville Riverwalk is well-regarded for its staff's prompt and warm service, particularly the valet service. While the hotel enjoys a prime location that offers easy access to nearby dining, the atmosphere is often described as outdated, and guests suggest a need for a more inviting ambiance. Cleanliness is a highlight, with most areas well-kept, though some guests have encountered minor issues. Room experiences vary, with comfort and tidiness noted, against complaints of wear and the need for updates. Amenities are deemed satisfactory, yet the value is questioned due to unexpected costs.

Wanted to stay at a different hotel in the same area. Riverwalk. It's in a great area with restaurants close by. The hotel staff was amazing and extremely helpful.
We did not use the indoor restaurant.
Hotel needs an update on maintenance! Walking down the hallway to room, the carpet is worn at most of the doors. This is very noticeable. The furniture in the room needs to be moved and vacuumed.

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. We were booked for New Years Eve. We were travelling from Ontario, Canada to Florida and staying in Jacksonville for one night. I chose this hotel specifically as it would be on the riverwalk where the NYE fireworks are. I booked a St. Johns Riverview room, requested a balcony (which was listed in the amenties for this level of room) and a room that could see
the fireworks from the room. When we arrived the front desk staff were indifferent and very unknowledgable....scrolling on their phones while there was a lineup of people waiting to be checked in. When it was my turn i was assigneed my room. I asked if it had a view of fireworks and was told that because of the angle of the hotel no rooms could see them. I had to ask very specific questions to get any information regarding parking...no one seemed to know. "check with the valet". It was all very unorganized. When we got to the room, no balcony and a very very small glimpse out the corner of the window of the river - mostly we saw a rooftop below us. When we went out to the riverwalk that night to watch the fireworks we could tell that rooms on the opposite side of the "U" shape that we were would be able to fully see the river and the fireworks.
Staff need to be trained more in information about the hotel and maybe a smile and professional manner would be nice.
As we found out on our own (certainly not from any helpful information from staff), the self parking is around the far side of the building and the area seemed a bit sketchy so we spent the extra for valet. But when we asked where self parking was we just got waves of arms and hands in the general direction. Most hotels where it isn't obvious, would may give you a little map and show you exactly????
Anyways, our room was fine and clean, the location on the riverwalk is nice. The ChartHouse Restaurant next door was amazing. Staff just need some better training. Attention to requests in room bookings would also be nice.

I hope you choose to stay with us again when your travels bring you back to the area.

We held our daughter’s adoption day at The Southbank and it was truly a special day we will never forget. Due to COVID, all court hearings were held virtually on Zoom, but this was such a milestone event for us that we needed to have something for our family. The hotel has an amphitheater, so we held the adoption hearing on the large screen in there and then held a brunch banquet in the ballroom. We also booked a suite to get ready in. Everything was perfect. The staff at the hotel went above and beyond to make it flawless. The room setup was beautiful and they took extra precautions to ensure everyone was safe. The rooms were set for social distancing, all staff wore masks, the buffet was served cafeteria style by staff behind a plexiglass barrier, and the hotel provided hand sanitizer throughout. The thing the guests raved the most about (besides our daughter, of course!) was the food! We did a chicken and waffles brunch and an assortment of sides – the food was definitely made with love! We had a glitch with WiFi that the staff resolved as quickly as they could for us – everything else just couldn’t have gone any better. We look back on this day with such fondness and we’re so grateful The Southbank Hotel was able to make this special day happen for us despite the pandemic. 10 out of 10 – would recommend!

Hotel would not honor our group discounted room. I was given a discount through our group, but hotel would not take it and give us the discount. There are multiple phone numbers for hotel and a person ended up getting a random person to book with. You could call multiple times in same time frame and get multiple different prices. They advertise valet parking, but it is self street and parking lot parking. Parking is not bad, but they should not advertise valet parking. On site staff are friendly and helpful, but hotel has a lot of issues. We found ants in our room upon arrival and noticed cracks in the wall by the window. We were busy so had to leave room. That night, we found ants in the bed crawling on our legs. Day 2 there was no hot water to shower and my kids were in a show and needed to get a shower before. Conference area was good. Evening bar food available. Chart House was great across the street. Not many local restaurants though. We were given a free breakfast voucher and paid parking for staying in a room with ants. We did not receive any discount for not having hot water to take a shower and did not get our group discount code. Because of the issues; we would not go back to this hotel and would not recommend staying here unless needed.

We do have Valet parking available for 22.00 dollars self park is 16.00. Group rates have cut off times. So if it was past your cut off date . We will not honor the group rate. When booking hotels it is a lot like booking a plane. The rates very based upon availability. That is why there would be a difference in rate from one minute to the next. We have two huge boilers. I am sorry you had no hot water. Did you mention that during your stay. As far as the ants we do spray every week. This is Florida sometimes a few ants get in. I am sorry for the inconvenience. Have a great holiday season.

Arrived at hotel at 9pm to find valet attendant in his car with girlfriend. $22 to have him park my car for a one-night stay. Decided to self park $18/day, unknowingly designated parking was in shady rear of hotel next to abandoned building, despite extensive empty hotel parking in better lit areas.

Our room was noisy from lobby bar patrons and bar music as the door was facing the atrium, coincidentally also discovered the shower had a noisy leak while my husband went down to request a room change.

Cons: Extremely lumpy and small pillows. Body wash bottle was empty, unfortunately found out once wet in shower. Toilet seat needs replacing since they are stained- felt dirty and not pleasant to sit on. Threshold of most rooms have missing chunks of carpet. Although close to the Riverwalk, there was zero “nightlife” on a Friday night.

Pros: rooms available with option of river view. 2 Complimentary bottles of water daily. Room was otherwise clean. Front desk was courteous. Luggage carts available. Close to the Riverwalk. Short drive to San Marco eateries

We had a reservation for a "St. John's River View, partial River View". At late afternoon check-in, we were told that there were not any rooms available that had a view. Why did it take my reservation for a view if there were none available? The clerk did not care. He just kept saying that the hotel was completely sold out. I was left with the impression that I should feel very lucky that I even got a room for the night. No other price reduction or accomodation. The hotel felt pretty old. The breakfast was a joke. The chafing dishes on the buffet were either empty or almost empty. We ate elsewhere the next day.

The location was great for a football game. We took the separately owned ferry taxi across the water to the football stadiium. We ate at Ruth Chris' and the Chart House on our two nights and had very good meals.

There was a lot of partying on Saturday night, and it was quite noisey in the hallways. But Sunday night was quiet. We had a little balcony that overlooked the parking lot and the electric train! But I actually liked the sunshine with coffee in the mornings.

We would probably try a different hotel in the Riverwalk area for our next football game.

The bed and room was comfortable, however we were there on business and a concert a mile away when we returned at 10:30 on a Thursday night the bar and lobby was full of folks yet the bar was closing and restaurant was long closed! Disappointing to say the least
The Bright spot was the folks at valet. Chloe, Trevor both were friendly and helpful at checking in and Evyrl at checkout thank you guys for leaving fond memories in our minds
Can’t say I’d return tho!

Was there for the Florida Federation of Garden Club convention. The hotel does not look anything at all like the photos. It is dirty, dusty, old furniture (some stained), black mold on exposed venting. Very uninviting. The room was plain, no mirror, no pictures on the wall. The bed skirt was dirty and had dried catsup on it. We found 4 baby roaches, we got two, but the others got away. The hallway was not vaccumed during our entire 4 day stay. The food was ok to terrible. Upon checkout I talked to the clerk about the problems, she avoided eye contact and said NOTHING! I have stayed at other Marriott hotels and they have always been exceptional. This one was a huge dissapointment and needs a complete overhaul. I would not reccomend it to anyone.

This hotel is not up to Marriott standards. But they are working on it. Absolutely stupid idea not to allow purchases from the lobby “store” to be charged to the room, but must be paid for at a kiosk. News flash - no one Carries their wallet inside the hotel! We did like the lobby and the lobby bar was nice. The location has a lot of potential so if you can get the place update and up to standards it should be successful.

We are looking into ways that we can make it easy for all our guests when it comes to purchasing items from the market. We will be converting to Delta Marriott this year and will have a beautiful market that will allow room charges and hope to see you again soon. Sincerely, Michael G
