Hotel's Favourite
My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the AKA University City. A sleek, modern, and immaculate hotel which is perfect for a weekend getaway or long-term stay. The hotel staff was fabulous and quickly worked to meet our needs. The rooms are generously sized wi the all the amenities you could need. They had some of the largest and softest towels I have come across.
The pool and amenities space on the 28th floor is not to be missed. I wish the lounge on 28 was open earlier on the weekend.
Highly recommend taking a visit to the AKA

We were here for a long weekend to celebrate my birthday, and believe me when I say we cannot wait to return. This was our first time staying at an AKA property so we were a little unsure of what to expect. First of all, the building is absolutely gorgeous with breathtaking views of downtown Philly. The Level 28 pool, movie theatre, lounge, and gym are pristine. The suites are so much larger than what you would get at almost any other hotel and are well appointed with high quality amenities. Also, you have access to a rooftop park next door on the parking deck that has a giant screen, grassy areas, and a grill and bar.
The most important element worth noting, though, is how hospitable and friendly the AKA staff are. From the moment we arrived they learned our names and made us feel so welcome. Lou, Steve, and Kamilah at the front desk/door made sure we had everything we needed and knew where all the best local restaurants and bars were. We were given a complimentary room upgrade when they learned it was my birthday and helped us arrange to stay an extra night in the same room when we couldn’t bring ourselves to leave. Also, the bartender Lindsey and the Level 28 attendant Margherita made sure we were set up with drinks, the pool, and our own private movie theater. If you’re worried about staying in university city, don’t be—the building is still just a short walk to everything downtown and is more than worth it for what you’re getting. We can’t wait to go back!

I've stayed in 13 hotels in Philadelphia and this is the best. The amenities include access to the 28th floor with indoor pool, gym, cinema room, golfing simulator and indoor and outdoor lounges. Everything is decorated beautifully and the hotel rooms are super clean & modern with washer/dryer, full kitchen with Nespresso machine and fantastic views. You don't find anything close to this in any other hotel in town. I've stayed there 3 times and each time our rooms were better and better. The location is certainly convenient for anyone needing to be close to U Penn and Drexel, but don't rule it out just because it's just over a small bridge from center city. (The Schuylkill river is a very walkable width of a city block). It's still super close to the Rittenhouse area, the museums along JFK Blvd., City Hall, etc. Plus, the highlight of your stay will be the shuttle service in the AKA's Tesla SUV with Mark. For a nominal fee, they will take you anywhere within a mile in town, which encompasses almost anywhere you'd want to go. Mark is a great driver and will help you with the "falcon wing" doors :-). He's personable, he knows Philly and has great tips and advice. He even picked us up from dinner to save us a walk back.
Make no mistake, the AKA is a luxury hotel in all respects but the rates are reasonable and the experience will surpass your stay anywhere else.

My family spent 13 days at AKA University. We chose the location because it is within walking distance of Penn. It was a great choice for us. The staff, Charles, Tyra, Abu (please forgive me if I misspelled your name), and Lou, the Tesla driver, provided exceptional service. A gentleman from maintenance, was so nice and friendly and helped me with a issue I had with a chair in the library, and there were two other gentleman who worked in the lobby, who were also very friendly, always smiling, and accommodating.
We stayed in a one bedroom with the library, which was emaculate when we arrived. The kitchen has tons of storage, the walk-in closet is a plus, and having two full bathrooms when you have a teenager with you speaks volumes. All of the linens were well maintained, and the housekeeping staff provided toiletries and laundry detergent when requested. I also enjoyed the floor to ceiling windows in the main living area and the bedroom. Another plus for me was the high speed internet. I worked all day for 10 days and did not have any internet issues while attending MSTeams meetings or managing very large excel files.
When staying away from home, being in an environment that is CLEAN, modern, safe, with great Wi-Fi service, and managed by an exceptional team was worth the money.
Well done AKA University Team!!!!

I wish I had enough words to describe how incredible the staff and property are for the AKA University City. I first stayed for work for about a month and a half in 2020, and remember telling Tony that I would be back... and here I am! The entire process of starting my lease was such a breeze, with some of the friendliest people to help guide me. I needed an immediate lease, and within days I was living at the AKA. Every question (yes, even the stupid ones) were answered promptly and with a smile. From Evan making it easy to choose the AKA to live in, to Carla helping me every step along the way (even with my late night texts and emails.... girl you deserve a raise with how annoying I am! you're the best!!!), this was the best choice I have made in the craziness of the last year. As a dog mom, it's so easy to take my pup on walks around the area, and he loves making friends with everyone on the staff! It's incredible to have all of the little details taken into account- like in room laundry and trash rooms on every floor. The AKA University City was the best, and easiest choice, I could have made when choosing where to live next. If you have the opportunity to stay at the property, make sure to check out LEVEL 28, which has everything from a pool to workout rooms to an incredible office center. To the staff at AKA- Thank you guys so much for everything you do, it does not go unnoticed and it is appreciated more than you all know. Such incredible humans inside and out. I love being excited about where I live everyday when I wake up!

The service and style of AKA University City is certainly unmatched! Our group enjoyed the amazing views and stylish rooms while noticing that AKA was the neatest and cleanest hotel we've ever visited. The front desk staff was courteous and every employee greeted us kindly and offered assistance whenever needed. Between the spacious gym, incredible pool, and kitchen with everything we could have needed, we won't be staying anywhere else in Philadelphia! Kudos to the entire staff and management at AKA University City!

I have been living in an apartment at AKA university city for two years now, and my experience has been excellent. The apartments here are gorgeously appointed, bright, and present amazing views of the city. The amenities on Level 28 are immaculately maintained, and there is everything you could hope for in terms of entertaining yourself and guests. All staff are very attentive and conscientious, especially Andre on the maintenance team. Lou, Steven, Tony, and Camila always make you feel incredibly safe and welcome in the lobby and are more than willing to help with anything you might need. The service here really goes above and beyond! You will not regret living at these apartments or staying at the hotel? Thank you for the past two years!

I have been living at AKA for over a year now as an international student at Penn. Shopping for housing remotely is never a fun experience, but fortunately Carla made this process very easy for me. She answered all my questions promptly, offered FaceTime tours of the property and walked me through the application process and paperwork. It was a very pleasant experience and made me feel confident I was going to live in a great place before even being able to see it
While AKA is certainly one of the pricier options for student housing, I very much recommend it. The property is very well kept and has outstanding service. There are many complaints from friends that live in other properties in the area about issues with the staff, but at AKA this is never a problem. Everyone works their hardest to make sure your stay is comfortable. Staff retention is very high which implies that employees are treated well. People seem to enjoy their work and that certainly shows.
The rooms are fantastic and only overshadowed by the views. It is hard to put into words how nice it is to just look at the city lights and relax. Most room appliances are high-end, including Bosch washing machines and dryers. The only thing I found a bit odd was the stove as it is not induction based and hence boiling water takes unnecessarily long. The shower also does not allow you to lock to a specific temperature between uses but instead uses an older handle where you have to manually adjust it every time you use it. However, from conversations with friends here that seems to be mostly related to generally lower housing standards in the US as compared to Germany and hardly unique to AKA.
One thing I would like to highlight is that the residents are also without exception very friendly and respectful people. As someone who values a clean and quiet environment this is certainly one of the best things about AKA.
There are many more good things to say about AKA, such as the pool, the cinema, the bar etc. but I think I have said enough and very much recommend living here (or just spending a few days).

We recently spent seventeen days at AKA University City (June 19 to July 5). What drew us there was the location (very close to University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University Campus and Cira Green). The space was fully furnished and we found that having a fridge, microwave, stove/oven, dishwasher and washer/dryer combo allowed us to focus more on visiting monuments, museums, art galleries and the zoo. All the staff provided professional and courteous service. During our stay, we found that we were always able to make a call to housekeeping or maintenance before going out in the day and return to the hotel to find it taken care of. One item that we enjoyed was the complimentary coffee (in the rooms or at the machine next to the pool). Another thing we enjoyed was swimming in the pool at the end of the day. There was still alot of amenities that we never used: outdoor lounge and fire pit, bar, cafe, fitness room, private theater, and business center; however the staff was always ready to book those for us. All these spaces were always clean and well-maintained. Overall, our experiences were excellent based on the quality of the amenities, location and outstanding customer service of Lou the Bellman and the rest of the AKA University City Staff. We highly recommend AKA University City for your vacation to Philadelphia.

We came back for a much-needed weekend away, and, just like the last time we were here, AKA delivered a luxurious and relaxing stay in Philly. Upon arrival to our room, Tony made sure we were greeted by an awesome welcome amenity of wine, champagne, and snacks. This building is in a walkable location to downtown, as well as Penn, Drexel, and 30th St. Station. The views from any room are amazing and the building's spaces are gorgeous. We love the high-end furnishings and amenities, as well as the beautiful park overlooking the river and city right next to the building.
We spent a lot of time enjoying the pool, theatre, and lounge on Level 28, where Lindsey and Margherita welcomed us back with helpful information, coffee, cocktails, and restaurant recommendations. Michael and Kamilah were wonderfully accommodating by helping us move rooms the second day after noticing a couple minor issues with our first room. Everything was seemless and it really is the staff that keeps us coming back to this gorgeous property. We cannot wait to visit a third time!
