Detailed Reviews
If I could rate this establishment 10 stars, I would give it. Our son lives a half a mile from the guest house and we arrived early. No problem for our gracious host Mark. He greeted us and could not be more welcoming and helpful. When you step into the house, you are transformed to another ERA. I was amazed by the particular detail to every decoration in the living room and in our bedroom, You will love staying here. I loved the bathroom hidden under the panelling under the stairs. The designs of this house were breathtaking.
The living room has a refrigerator stocked with beverages and Mark is so attentive to your needs. He is also a wealth of information in the area and is so interesting. He makes you feel so important. Our son came back with us before dinner and Mark was talking with us about travel and the next morning remembered our son's name and asked if we wanted to take any of the leftover breakfast items for him.
We stayed the Parisian room. I felt like I was in in Paris. The bed was very comfortable and the fireplace was an added bonus.
As for breakfast, it was unbelievable. On the table was juice and a generous berry cup with yogurt and granola on the table. Then Mark prepared the most delicious warm pastries for the table. They were blueberries muffins, croissants (chocolate, everything and plain), butterscotch scones and cheese bread. If this wasn't enough food, he brought out poached eggs with hollandaise sauce and sauteed spinach.
If you visit Manayunk, I would highly recommend to stay here. I know my husband and I will be here often.
Thank you Mark for a fabulous stay.

Amazing stay with Pastries
Review of Manayunk Chambers Guest House

If one wants a unique stay in a Philadelphia then staying at the Manayunk Chambers Guest House is a must. Located In the funky, historic Manayunk section of Philadelphia the Guest House is a charming old brick town house on a quiet hilly street, it is a quick walk from Manayunk's Main Street which has some nice shops and restaurants. Between the narrow streets, old houses, walkability and churches I felt I was staying in a European town. The inside of the guest house is decorated nicely, having prints of famous paintings, clocks and nice furniture. The room we stayed in, the City Suite, is on the second floor. Extremely well kept with a day bed and very comfy king sized bed that had an antique wooden bed frame, the room is also decorated nicely with other antique furniture. A plus is the bathroom has a claw foot tub which my wife enjoyed and a space age-like stand in shower. Everything was immaculately clean and we felt very comfortable in our stay. Mark, the owner and our gracious host, is a very nice amicable guy that explains everything thoroughly, we enjoyed chatting with him about the neighborhood, area restaurants, and his story. The breakfast he creates are outstanding; now the website describes the breakfast served as "Continental", and while that may be technically true that in my mind is not an adequate description at all. Mark is a baker, doing it professionally for many years, he does it with love, he presents an assortment of fresh baked pastries, each of which are delectable. We started with some fresh fruit, grilled pineapple and yogurt, then on to the pastries, brown bread, croissants, scones, and blueberry muffins. All pastries are served warm and fresh, truly a delight. We were very happy and quite full after our meal. While we only spent one night here we truly enjoyed the guest house and highly recommend staying here.

Spectacular stay at the Manayunk Guest Chambers House this weekend. Had a girls overnight at this property after having a professional make-up consultation with a Beke Beau. Loved the historical details of the home and the uniqueness of each room. Since we were the only guests there we had the full use of the front room for Happy Hour and late night conversation. This worked well since our room was tight for three adult women. The owner supplied an incredible variety of wines and snacks which we were free to enjoy.
And the breakfast the next morning! That was the highlight of the entire weekend. Beginning with an assortment of freshly baked breads, scones and muffins to enjoy with a cup of coffee. Then on to the fruit course of poached pears and clotted cream. And finally, the entree was a poached egg on thinly sliced multigrain toast with a piece of grilled ham, grilled asparagus and a side of roasted tomatoes. It was off the charts delicious and the presentation was something you would typically only get in a five star restaurant.
While the property offers many amenities it is worth noting that the guest rooms are small and the bathroom is shared and outside the bedroom. We made it work for one night but it might not be for everyone. And parking could have been “quite challenging” but the owner gladly gave up his driveway so we had VIP parking.
Finally, the owner could not have been nicer nor done more to accommodate us and make our stay enjoyable. He was truly a gem! If we find ourselves back in Manayunk we know exactly where we will stay....

Thank you Loren, for writing such a nice review of your experience with us. I am so glad that you all had such a "spectacular stay" and your upgraded breakfast. You are such lovely women whom I enjoyed sharing our home. Since the guest house is 143 years old to date, our guest rooms are built to accommodate our guests for sleeping and we encourage dining to take place exclusively in our spacious front parlor only, where I offer the facilities for you to do so. Our guests enjoy the Parlor to mingle and break bread and share wine with the other guests. If you may also be unaware, ALL of our guest rooms do offer their own "Private Bathrooms", which are En-Suite (in the rooms). The exception is the City Suite, that you chose to accommodate 'three adults'. We purposely put the entrance to your bathroom just outside the City Suite door to give the guests in that room a greater sense of privacy while using it. I will gladly show you our other unique guest rooms during your next visit with us. Stay well and I look forward to seeing you on your return visit.

My husband and I had a lovely time at Manayunk Chambers Guest House. We had tickets for a show at the Kimmel Center and wanted to find a quiet place outside the city. Manayunk fit the bill. We spent a delightful time exploring Manayunk. Fascinating shops and unique dining. It was easy to take the train to the city to attend the show.
Mark is a wonderful host! Every need was thoughtfully anticipated. He did everything to ensure that our brief stay was comfortable. Mark is well connected with the community and great recommendations.
Breakfast was sooo good. I don't know how he does it, but our eggs were like little clouds of perfection. The Eggs Benedict had just the right amount of sauce, the toast was crisp. Yummy pastries on the side.
Highly recommend. We look forward to returning.

The Manayunk Chambers Guest House is a rare gem in the heart of Manayunk. The inn has been lovingly restored and both the public rooms and guest quarters were elegantly furnished. My wife and I stayed at Manayunk Chambers Guest House for her birthday weekend, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Mark was the consummate host, accommodating and personable the whole time. He communicated with us clearly and professionally, always mindful of our privacy.
We had the place to ourselves, which was a greatly appreciated COVID measure. Our room was cozy — the bed was VERY comfortable — and the parlor was well stocked with snacks and refreshments. Breakfast was superb: Fruit crepes, poached eggs with ham, and Mark’s homemade baked goods. We couldn’t have asked for a more pleasant stay.
The B&B is conveniently located far enough from Main Street to be quiet, but close enough for an easy downhill walk to all the cool shops, restaurants and sights of quirky Manayunk. We wished we had spent more time exploring! If you’re more interested in Philly, it’s an easy train ride away if you don’t want the hassle of driving and parking in the city.

Manayunk Chambers Guest House is a charming and beautifully kept gem just seconds from Manayunk’s Main Street. Mark, one of the owners, and pastry chef extraordinaire, made our stay so warm and personal, it felt like visiting an old friend! Mark’s background as a pastry chef is a true gift to anyone who stays at this inn- I didn’t know my love for croissants until Mark! From the art on the walls, to the comfy beds, to the delectable breakfasts, the stay was perfect. We will surely be back soon!!!

Manayunk Chambers Guest House is located on a quiet street in downtown Manayunk, and is the perfect place to stay while visiting Philadelphia. In close proximity to Bala Cynwyd/the Main Line, Manayunk has small town charm, and was named a National Historic District in 1983. The inn has been lovingly restored in Victorian style, and has a parlor with beautiful chandelier, a grand piano, and numerous antique pieces, as well as beautiful art work. Each room has its own name, and features a beautiful four poster bed, period draperies and wallpaper, and a gas fireplace for chilly evenings. The bathroom is modern and lovely, in keeping with the other decor.
Mark, the owner, takes good care of his guests, making them feel pampered and relaxed. The day starts with a continental breakfast, which features freshly prepared baked goods, fresh fruit, juice, and coffee. Just let Mark know when you would like to eat, and everything is waiting at your table when you come downstairs. Mark is a classically trained gourmet chef and innkeeper, and gives his attention to every detail, from the butter rosebuds to the fruit filled crepes he served one morning. Other amenities he offers his guests include a selection of wines, snacks, fruit, and flavored waters. You are missing out if you don't stay in this lovely bed and breakfast inn!

We discovered this place while visiting our son at Villanova. It's a really interesting, fun place to stay in a funky, bohemian neighborhood. And it's a 2 minute walk to the train station to catch a train into Philly. The innkeeper, Mark, couldn't be nicer. The breakfast was really delicious. We ate so much, we weren't hungry again until dinner. I'd suggest that you pace yourself in the early courses of the breakfast. We made the mistake of overdoing it early, not realizing that the food was going to keep coming. It's an urban Victorian that's been renovated, so the rooms and bathrooms aren't huge, but totally comfortable, and it adds to the historic vibe of the place. There's a canal bike path that's just 5 minutes from the place, so bring your bike. You could spend all day just exploring that bike path. I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed at this awesome B&B last night, because we went to see our son play at the Grape Room in Manayunk. We had the whole place to ourselves, well, except for the ghosts (which we didn't have contact with, but I'm sure they're there). The parlor is like a museum and the host, Mark, couldn't be friendlier or more welcoming. There is classical music playing, wine and beer for you upon arrival and snacks. You can play any music you want on the Alexa there ( we chose Christmas music and it was so cozy). We stayed in the Elite Garden room and the bed was super-comfortable. We slept straight through until 9, which was unusual. When we went downstairs, there was a lovely breakfast table set up for us in the parlor, complete with a delicious breakfast (too much for us, so Mark gave usiploc bags for leftovers). There's a gas fireplace in the parlor, as well as the room. We will definitely be back to this gem, which we didn't even realize was right up the street from our son's place.

For the comfort of all of our guests we do not allow pets of any kind.
Hello Kerry, for the comfort of all of our guests it is our policy to not allow pets in our bed and breakfast. Sorry.
No, there was not a tv in our room. The tv is in the living room.
Agree with previous person's response. The owner even moved his car out of the driveway for us so we had a space when we arrived but we didn't need to use it as there was a space in the street right outside.
Hello Evelyn,
Thank you for your interest in staying at Manayunk Chambers Guest House while visiting Philadelphia. You sound like a very fun group and I am sure that I would enjoy having you as my guests.
Philadelphia's city center is about 8 miles from our historic and vibrant town of Manayunk. Making it a difficult and somewhat lengthy walk to the attractions that Philadelphia is known for. However, our SEPTA Regional Rail Line "R-6" stops just 2 blocks from us, taking you directly to "Center City" in a mere 17 minute comfortable ride, stopping at 3 separate areas of the downtown area.
The neighborhood of Manayunk is a terrific walking town, itself. The weekend of October 30th will be the opening of the newly renovated "Manayunk Bridge Trail", connecting, for the first time, the Cynwyd Heritage Trail with the Ivy Ridge Trail. Our Main Street offers Fine Restaurants, Vibrant Nightlife and Eclectic Boutique Shops. We also have a fun walking "Foodie Tour" through Manayunk. Stopping and sampling many favorites at more than half dozen local eateries. Plus, our Main Street Halloween tradition of local children dressed in their costumes trick or treating in the afternoon.
I truly appreciate your interest in experiencing Philadelphia and Manayunk at its best and hope that I helped you with making the best decision for you and your friends fun weekend jaunt.
Thank you,
Mark Jerde, Innkeeper
