Nestled in the heart of the city, the Home2 Suites by Hilton Philadelphia - Convention Center, PA is celebrated for its superb location, close to Reading Terminal Market and other attractions. While opinions on service and cleanliness vary, with some guests encountering impeccable staff and pristine areas and others facing disorganization and neglect, the hotel's amenities, including complimentary breakfast and kitchen facilities, are generally appreciated.
However, issues with room upkeep and furnishings have been noted. The hotel's atmosphere and value are perceived as diminished due to the worn interior and additional fees.

Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
Pros: Staff was flexible and pleasant with us, let us check in an hour early because our room was already ready. The room (2 queen bed pet room) was clean and in excellent shape, something I had worried a little bit about after seeing other reviews. Beds were comfortable and climate control worked well. I liked the in-room mini Keurig and the microwave, dishwasher and fridge were all clean and functional. No unpleasant smells.
Biggest Pro: Location, location, location! We ate one meal every day in Reading Terminal Market, which was literally right across the street from the front door (one way street, easy to cross!) We'd get our food from any of those amazing options, then bring it back and enjoy it at the lobby tables and it was great. Hotel is just around the corner from all the tour buses and not a long walk from much of the downtown. We didn't use our car at all during our 3-night stay.
Cons: Lobby is a little run-down and could use new seats (very worn cushions!) Breakfast was hit or miss for us, though there were always waffles, one day there was no bread, bagels or butter, and they ran out of hot food saying the truck had not come in. The coffee and hot water in the lobby was always cold (but they did have coffee accessories and the front desk gave me more pods for my Keurig). The room did not have a bathtub, only a stall shower.
Biggest Con: The swimming pool was closed the first night of our stay for some sort of electrical problem, and was very cold and disappointing when my husband and son used it. There was more than enough other stuff to do, but don't come expecting much in terms of swimming.
Overall, a very good stay and we will definitely book again next time we go to Philadelphia.

My wife and live a train ride from the city and wanted to get away for the night. I chose the Home2 because of my experiences with the brand elsewhere across the country. These properties are typically well maintained, the rooms are nicely laid out and the breakfast area has many choices. Well, this property is a bit worn out. I don't know if it is from being a city location, age, staff, etc., but it is obvious when you look around that some work needs to be done. Aside from that, the breakfast on Sunday morning was complete and utter chaos. There was food, dishes and trash everywhere - on the floor, tables and chairs and many food and drink items were low or empty. I honestly didn't see a hotel employee in the kitchen area for the 15 minutes my wife and I were eating. You can't beat the location, but you will put up with some aggravating issues.

The Home2Suites by Hilton is in an ideal location; close to the Convention Center, Reading Terminal, pick up stop for the Hop On Hop Off bus, etc. This provided walking access to food and other sundries.
The hotel has an Arch Street address but the entrance is on 12th Street which we overlooked. Traveling with my family, my crew was able to secure our room upon check in about 11:55am while my niece's family had to wait for their room. Luckily, we had purchased Hop On Hop Off bus tickets to see the sights upon arrival.
At first glance the hotel is quite acceptable, however, upon further "inspection" we discovered the garbage disposal was not working and food was left in the sink; the front desk staff just answered with an OK on both calls. No apology or we will be up to take care of it. It was evening and we were too tired to switch rooms after being out all day and we knew we would be checking out in the morning. The sofa bed was not a comfy sleep for my niece but she managed thru the night.
Selection for breakfast was a disappointment, but we were not here for the hotel breakfast. We checked out early so we could continue exploring Philadelphia.
Would I stay here again - only if other hotels are sold out.

Hospitality was lacking from the moment we checked-in. With no other guests in the lobby/reception but us, there were no available "check-in parking spots" in front of the hotel. This meant we had to go into the garage, pay with a credit card (no staff on duty) for our 2 night stay, then bring our luggage from the car, down the garage elevator, pass by the garage panhandlers, to the hotel, instead of just unloading in the spots presumably reserved for guests "checking-in". And the garage charged $47 per night for self parking instead of the $42 listed on the Home2 Suites website.
The young man who checked us in seemed more interested in watching ESPN on the lobby TV than explaining how things work at Home2 Suites, even after I said this was our first time at their brand. This should have been a segue for him to communicate how things work and what I could expect during my stay at this particular hotel, but instead I got the bare minimum (just the room number, keys and our complimentary Gold Member water). Did I mention we were the only ones checking in at the time?
I understand Philadelphia was shut down for COVID, but if Home2 Suites wants to open up, it should provide a room that actually seems like it is cleaned and disinfected for my "comfort and protection".

Stay closed if you cannot:
Staff the front desk with welcoming people.
Find competent housekeeping staff.
Invest in new towels, to cycle out the frayed inventory.
Take care of your plumbing problems.

Home2Suites fell very short of its guarantee to provide "an engaging experience and CLEAN, COMFORTABLE ACCOMODATIONS.
As a guest with a young family, we were so excited to visit Philadelphia for the first time and to stay at Home2Suites in Philadelphia. I am very disappointed with this hotel and it only made us miss home. Upon check in, the associate at the desk assigned us to Room 529. When we arrived at Room 529 (at 8-9pm, way after check-in time) and opened the door, the room looked occupied. The bed was unmade and towels and sheets everywhere. When we went back to the associate to let her know, she generically apologized but was not surprised. Hesitant from that moment on, I asked her how often the rooms are cleaned. She said we try to clean them soon but we are working on it. She then assigned us to Room 327. We arrived on the third floor and it wreaked of marijuana smell. When we got to Room 327, it was very dirty and I could tell it had not been cleaned properly. I feel unsafe in this room with my husband and children. The couch has several stains on it and the cushion seam is coming apart. The chair at the desk is dirty as well; the cushion has stains and the back of the chair has particles in it. The carpet is sticky and discolored, microwave has not been cleaned, the clock and the TV stand have dust on them, the bathroom walls are stained, and the shower has mold in it. Outside of our room, the carpet needs to be vacuumed. Even the Hilton "Clean Stay" sign in the elevator had dust and a dead insect on it. Sadly, we are a family of six that arrived in the evening, paid for parking, and feel without options on another place to stay. I asked my kids to remain only on the bed, not to sit on the chair or couch, or touch the other areas because I am concerned for the "cleanliness of our stay" and our health and safety. I have taken pictures of the areas that I have described above to show a manager. This is not how a vacation at a Hilton hotel should turn out. Had I known the condition of this hotel, I would have gone elsewhere.

This hotel is very clean and the rooms are spacious. The included breakfast offers premade egg/egg sandwiches, do it yourself waffles, cereals, and some fruit and yogurt. Was not too crowded, but come early for the best choices. There is a small snack area by the front desk. Masks are required in public areas. The only issue we had is that the housekeeping came very late (like 5 pm) in the day or not at all, even though we requested it. This may be due to staffing, but it was the only negative we came across. We’d come here again.

Pros: Location and self serve laundry facilities
Laundry room was good, two washers and two dryers which took quarters, $.75 per cycle. This was a key reason I picked this place since it was in the middle of a long road trip and I wanted to be able to do laundry, so I'm glad that part worked out.
There are so many places to eat around here, and a Trader Joe's just down by Arch & 9th so you can easily pick up groceries. In addition to the Reading Terminal Market across the street which has almost anything you could want to eat; Hershel's pastrami sandwich opened my tastebuds to what pastrami should be. Drool.
Cons: The room seemed dusty and not exactly clean. The kitchenette sink did not drain properly, even after maintenance came and used a vacuum to suction out what was in the garbage disposal area. The garbage disposal didn't work at all, and neither did the dishwasher. The explanation given was that the hotel only re-opened a month ago, and plumbing issues have been a problem ever since. They plan to remove the garbage disposals from the kitchenettes, and they haven't gotten to the 5th floor yet.
The complimentary breakfast was all carbs such as prepackaged muffins, bagel, cream cheese, yogurt. If you like some protein with breakfast you will be disappointed.

This hotel is awful start to finish. I am here for business and to treat my husband to a romantic weekend when not working. I booked this hotel through the show I am attending at the convention center. With the fees and taxes the room is $200 plus a night. It is not worth even half of that. Also, Parking was $97 for two days in public parking.
Our first room had a sink that wouldn’t drain in the tiny kitchen. We called maintenance 10 minutes into our stay. The maintenance man told us to only run the water low pressure so it would drain and that the garbage disposal was old and broken and they could not replace it as per the hotel.
Then I went to sit on the couch but it was so grimy filthy I didn’t sit on it. As I looked around it got worse. Not clean and run down. A front desk person named Steven said he would come up and switch us to a better room. That was at 6:30. We had 7:15 dinner reservations that I had made a month ago and the restaurant was completely booked so we couldn’t change our dinner plans to a later time. I never changed or freshened up before dinner because Steven didn’t show. Apparently another guest had a bigger problem. So some other staff came up after we politely called and said we had to get to dinner to give us a key to another room.
We threw our things in the new room and jumped in an Uber to get to the restaurant in the street clothes we had on from our 2 hour drive into the city. Put into perspective no biggie but…
We returned from dinner and the new room keys wouldn’t work.
Clearly , no one communicates here. The new room is just as run down. Not cleaned well probably because it’s hard to make it look any cleaner because of how beat everything is. Like the saying “you can’t shine 💩
Both my husband and I understand that it’s really tough these days to get enough staff and feel appreciative for those who do show up to keep things running but at this hotel it’s just awful.
I was in NYC a week ago and the hotel and its staff put this place to shame.
We are booked for two nights. There is no way we will stay here another night. We want our money back. Looking now for a better hotel. We will drive home and shorten our trip if we have to just not to stay in this place.

If you are looking for a comfortable bed, this is not the hotel to choose. The bed was so bad that it kept me awake. When I complained, they added padding or adjusted it for the second night, which helped. Staff told me all the beds were bad and they hoped to be able to change them within the year. The dust ruffle was a wrinkled mess. The room seemed clean as we're the outer common areas. Having a kitchen was a nice plus. Would be a good place to stay with a couple of kids.
Some staff were very friendly, while others seemed like it was a bother to be there.
The hotel is across the street from the Redding market and 1/2 block from the convention center, making it quite convenient. In the evening, you have to use your room key to enter, probably because of the aggressive homeless population in the area. We did not try the breakfast and opted for the market.
There is no discount for hotel parking in the adjacent public ramp. Our weekend parking was $43 per day.

I stayed at the hotel on 2 separate visits (2 days each) within a week. There can definitely be some improvements, but on the whole it's a good place and I'd stay there again. The location is close to a lot of restaurants/stores/etc. It also happens to be close to a homeless shelter. But, it’s in the dead center of an urban area. That’s not surprising. Parking is also pricey. But again, the place is in the center of an urban area. Parking is scarce. There are, however, a couple of parking garages a couple of blocks away. The hotel is clean, for the most part. On the first visit our room was nearly spotless. There were a couple of black specks inside the fold out couch, but we brushed those off and had crisp clean sheets to put on the couch so it was fine. On the second visit, the room seemed clean, but on the second night my dust allergies started acting up. The visible surfaces seemed fine, but when I went looking, it turned out the top shelves hadn't been dusted for what looked like months. I could literally draw in the dust. there was also a plastic plate there. Clearly, no one cleaned up there in some time. That being said, dust is easy enough to get rid of it with a wet rag. I'd prefer a hotel with a bit of dust but comfortable beds and good amenities to the reverse. No, there’s no hot breakfast. But, you’re also in the middle of a pandemic. They’re not going to encourage people to sit around together. On the first stay I was slightly annoyed that their to go stuff was really limited. They had plain small bagels, prepackaged hard boiled eggs, a couple of cereal choices, milk, juice and a couple of oatmeal choices. At least have danish and muffin choices. They did have premade omelettes on the second visit, so it seems like they're expanding their breakfast. Check in was pretty quick. Chris at the front desk was excellent. When we were checking out the first time, there was a huge line and he handled it expertly. We’ stay in Philly regularly and we’ll definitely be back.
