The Kimpton Hotel Monaco Philadelphia stands out with its eclectic and artsy vibe that many guests adore, particularly noting the whimsical decor and well-kept rooms. While the cleanliness generally receives high marks, some guests have pointed out occasional lapses. The staff's friendliness is often praised, but there are mentions of service inconsistencies.
Although the hotel's location earns accolades for its convenience and views, the value is sometimes questioned due to hidden fees and amenity concerns, including a lack of in-room coffee. Rooms are typically celebrated for their spaciousness and comfort, yet a few guests have highlighted maintenance and decor that could use an update.

The entire hotel is beautiful. From the outside, the reception/check-in area, and the guests' rooms. We had the pleasure of working with Chauncey. Chauncey was professional, engaging, and funny!
The bed was extremely comfortable and the pillows were fluffy.

It’s nothing short in saying it’s been quite a difficult year. For us, our marriage had been taking the back seat to the kids, work, every day hustle and bustle and the worries of COVID-19. We decided to take a night to ourselves to reconnect and just have quiet time for the two of us. It was SO wonderful that we booked an unplanned additional night, surprised our young kids with a night downtown. They smiled beneath the city lights with a soaking tub that was filled with kid toys, bubble bath, music and the voices of 3 carefree kids laughing. ( who until now were confined behind masks and experiencing every thing at home or virtually) It’s been a rough year for them too and to see these genuine moments unfold was refreshing. we door dashed chickfila for the kids & we ordered Boodikan 1block south- rented christmas movies in our pjs. This experience took all of our minds away from the hysteria of the pandemic for a bit and went back to the basics of fun and play. It’s a great spot bc you can walk anywhere to penns landing (ice skate) & sight see right out your hotel window with the liberty bell amongst others in immediate reach.
This hotel in particular has extremely strict adherence to contact and safety measures to ensure an anxiety free stay. It’s hard enough to go to a grocery store not worried let alone stay somewhere besides your own home. Just ask them what their room turn around time is before it is booked again—-That in itself speaks volumes about their allegiance to sanitation practices. We never had to share an elevator, were provided complimentary masks on arrival & staff were very accommodating. Some staff that stood out as exceptional were Roshid, Tiffany & Davida. I chose to go to the front desk for an additional ice bucket for wine (I could have called) but the correspondence with them was funny, entertaining and made me smile. Those three truly made every effort to make our stay memorable. We will certainly be returning in the future.
Thank you hotel Monaco for breaking up the mundane year we’ve had by adding an atmosphere of positivity, friendliness, CLEANLiness and most importantly MEMORABLE.

This was out first time to Philly, stopping off on the well worn path from DC to NY for a couple of nights. Due to a glitch with the booking system, our room had been cancelled, but the front desk made sure a special birthday weekend was taken care of by giving us an amazing upgrade to a oversized corner suite.
Walking into the room made an immediate impression with bold and stylish patterns in the lounge area, a huge comfortable bed and amazing and sizeable bathroom with free standing tub. Great views of Independence Hall. Room was filled with little styling touches that made it feel like a special home away from home. Service was friendly and professional. Importantly room was quiet, air conditioning is quiet and worked well and good quality connection to the world wide web. Don't miss the free wine hour at 5pm in the fantastic foyer area.
The hotel itself is in a great location which made it easy to miss the crowds and do the early tour of the Hall. Heaps of great restaurants in the area.

We cannot wait to see you again at wine hour. The next time you are in town, don't forget to check out Spruce Street Harbor. It is the prefect place to relax by the water during your down time. I recently stayed at The Hotel Kimpton Monaco Philadelphia, it was terrible to say the least. The hospitality/customer service was lacking. The only representative at this Hotel that is friendly, welcoming and truly wants to assist clients is Mr. Roshid. I originally requested a room type, and was told via messaging that it would be an additional fee. I responded letting them know that I would like to proceed being that I requested that, only to be told that they had given it to someone else who booked after me. If a request is made, why not call the customer making the request to inform them of the options. In my case this wasn’t done due to the fact that they like to communicate via messaging app as opposed to calling clients. I called the morning before I was set to arrive, only to interact with Jim, who was extremely condescending, and was attempting to rush me off of the phone. They were able to put me in a corner room for 1 night (noisy room under lounge) then I would have to be moved the following day. I went to the front desk the following morning, looking to see if anyone canceled a booking so that I could stay in the same room type, only to be interrupted by a another condescending female employee (davida) as I was talking to Mr. Roshid. If I’m speaking to one representative there is no need to have another person who isn’t looking to assist speak without knowing what I was about to request. I requested to be accommodated in the original room type I booked earlier as opposed to waiting around for another room to become available later on in the day. They put me in a 9th floor room which is directly below a night club when I indicated that I needed to be lower due to noise sensitive dog. Once given this room, I wanted to proceed with my day and did not check the plumbing which I’ve never had to do in the past. Turns out that as I arrived to the room in the evening there was no not water in either bathtub or sink, and was told to let it run for 5 mins....I was already running for 10 mins before I called. They indicated that a technician would be up to the room within 10 mins, that turned into almost a 30 min wait. I decided to call down again and asked to be moved, how is it possible that there’s no hot water in a room they put me in?? They then put me in another room on the 8th floor, this time with double beds which is not the room type I booked next to what seemed like 30 people in a suite (crazy amount of noise) needless to say I asked for some type of credit for the inconvenience and was told that they had to run it by the manager, still waiting to hear back. I stayed at this hotel due to proximity to sites, but based on lack of customer service and mess of situation regarding rooms I would not recommend anyone to stay here. Stay Away!

The price they charge for their 12x12 tiny box of a room is absolutely crazy. We had dirty socks left by the previous people as well as a dirty bathroom & dirty towels so it made us highly question if they really even do clean properly especially during a time like covid. Stains on the towels that looked fresh, dirty toilet bowl & seat, left over clothing on the ground in the room & stains on top of the bathroom sink everywhere & the mirror wasn't even clean after the previous people who stayed. The location is near by everything so that part is very convenient but this had to be hands down one of the top 5 worst hotel/motel stays I've ever had. I called downstairs to the front desk to request some new towels 3 times and no one answered. Luckily my co-worker who was staying in a separate room had extras that were clean so I used his. Their stand up shower only had half a glass covering so the other open half literally would spray out water & make puddles on the floor whenever you showered. WHO IN THE RIGHT MIND thought that it was a good idea!?!? We had to use multiple small towels after each shower to dry up and prevent us from slipping.

My husband and I arrived in late morning on a sweltering-hot day in early June, exhausted after both a train and subway ride. It was such a relief to have Roshid, the concierge, greet us as if we were already long-lost friends. He must have seen our exhaustion, because he told us not to worry, our room was already available for to us to check in. We had booked a room with a view of Independence Hall (Room 709), which had a fantastic view of both Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell Center on Independence Mall. Roshid told us that right now there is no daily maid service because of COVID precautions, but not to hesitate to ask him if we needed anything, like extra towels, etc. The bathroom was spotless, including the grout in the tub/shower. The bedding was also spotless, and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel was also easy walking distance to the Philly Phlash bus loop, and also Market-Frankford line subway, which we took after arriving at the Amtrak 30th Street Station.
The only negatives were that there was no coffeemaker in the room, and coffee service didn't begin until 7 a.m., which seemed late to us for a business hotel. The restaurant was closed during our stay, but there is a Wawa convenience store nearby, and also the Bourse Food Hall right next to the hotel. Also, we were not aware when we checked in that the hotel assesses an additional fee/night for incidentals, although the fees were reversed quickly after we checked out.
We would happily use this hotel again on our next trip to Philadelphia.

My mom and I stayed here three nights while touring Philly and we were disappointed with the quality of the hotel, especially for the price. We thought we were splurging to stay somewhere fancy but this hotel is run down. The room was nicely decorated but the wallpaper was peeling in multiple spots, the hallway carpets were filthy and stained, and we found several pieces of someone else’s hair in the bathroom during our stay. One of the hallways to our room smelled like cigarette smoke. We actually passed two rooms on our floor (8th floor) that had chunks broken off the door and you could get a very small glimpse into those bedrooms! And yes, there appeared to be people staying in those rooms. That’s some shady motel level stuff. The room had robes you could wear but you couldn’t pay me to put one on… the ones in our room had strings hanging off and holes. On a smaller note, all of the IHG hotels I’ve been to recently offer Netflix on the TVs and I was let down that they didn’t have this. Also, I think this hotel hosted a wedding in their lower level ballrooms on Saturday night during our stay, as we could hear pounding music well past midnight, even from the 8th floor.
The best part of the hotel is the location, and that’s why I did give it three stars. This is an amazing location for seeing the historical sites of Philly- some of the sites are literally steps outside of the front door and we walked nearly everywhere. Other pros: we never had to wait more than a few seconds for an elevator; the attached restaurant, Red Owl Tavern, was good; my mom really liked the hair dryer; and staff was nice. We were only given two pillows per bed but they sent extras up immediately when we called to request.
In summary, this hotel needs updating and cleaning, and if you stay here, you’re really paying for the location and not the “glamour”.

This hotel has great decor is in a great location and the employees are very pleasant and friendly, however, the cleanliness of the rooms LEAVES A LOT to be desired.
Check In/Parking:
We arrived at around 10:30pm with 2 small children. Check in was easy, the front desk person was pleasant. However, she gave my husband vague information on where to park for in/out privileges. She told us to park on 6th street but didn’t have an exact address and told us to put Laz parking in the GPS...well there are several Laz parking lots on 6th street that come up (although most are no longer managed by Laz). This caused my husband to drive around looking for the correct parking lot. We call the front desk and someone tells us to park at the Bourse which is right around the corner from the hotel but they don’t have in/out privileges. My husband finally found the correct parking lot by asking a guest standing in front of the hotel who told him exactly where the in/out parking location was. By this time it was 11:30pm.
Room:
Room decor was nice. However, it was not thoroughly cleaned. There were used plastic shot glasses on the floor by the bed (hidden by the blanket). There was dust on the curtains, so much that when we pulled them back a cloud of dust released. There was sticky residue on the night stand, and the toilet had a ring in it. There was a pile of dust on the a TV that left on our fingers when we tried to turn it. Thankfully, the sheets and linens were clean! I needed to be in this exact area so I called the Ritz Carlton down the street to see if they had rooms available, they did not. We were stuck here and resolved to Microban everything and make the most of it and spend as little time in the room as possible.
They DO NOT clean the rooms during your stay not even if you ask for it. We were staying for 4 days and when we asked about dumping trash we were told to leave our trash in the hallway for pickup. There are no trash receptacles anywhere in the hotel. During our stay, It was not uncommon to see trash from guest rooms littered throughout the hallway.
This isn’t consistent with most major hotels during Covid. I’m at the Marriott right now and they offer room cleanings when asked. The room was SPOTLESS when we arrived.
Coincidentally, the day we were supposed to check out, the cleaning lady knocks on our door at 10AM...check out is 11.
Overall....I won’t come back here during Covid, when I stayed here pre-Covid it was wonderful but they seem to be having a hard time finding a sweet spot with their operations and amenities. The hotel isn’t expensive at all but it certainly wasn’t worth the money. That says a lot!

I’m an IHG member and have enjoyed previous stays in Kimpton properties. I am so disappointed in this stay that I am questioning upcoming reservations in other IHG hotels.
We flew in from England for a wedding, and paid for the King premium room with freestanding bath. Beware: if you don’t pay for one with the VIEW, you could end up on the second floor right above the dumpsters and loading dock area and wake up to loud clanking and truck noise every day.
Our wedding rate was for two nights of a five-night stay and all of it had to be booked separately, something no one seemed to be able to figure out without great difficulty. We ended up with three consecutive reservations and despite extensive communication by phone and email in advance of our visit, nothing was updated in their system to keep us in the same room, they had to do that all over again when we were checking in… and every time we called the front desk, they didn’t see our other reservations.
Why did we call the front desk so much? Because as IHG members we should be able to take advantage of 2pm late checkout. When we checked in (at the front desk) they told us to call the front desk about it. When I called the next day, I was told to call back the day before checkout. When I called the day before checkout, I was informed that I was mistaken, I was checking out that day. AGAIN, I said no, we have three consecutive reservations, we are checking out tomorrow… and the response was call back tomorrow morning. Why even offer this as a benefit to members if they have to call the morning of and can’t make plans for things like what time they are checking out and when to have transportation to the airport arranged?!
Add to all of the above: this place is shabby and wildly inconsistent. Some members of the wedding party had one robe in their rooms, some had two. Only one person had slippers, everyone else had none. Housekeeping made our bed but didn’t empty our trash or give us any fresh towels (though they took the dirty towels…??). The furniture is all marked up, fixtures in the bathroom are rusty, I’ve been inside multiple “premium” rooms and the curtains are dangling off the rails in more than one of them… you are paying for location here, not accommodation, not experience, definitely not service.
I wouldn’t ever stay here again, this is not what I expect from Kimpton, IHG generally, or the standard of a four-star hotel.

The hotel is lovely. The location is perfect. Very hipster-ish, steeped in history, and beautifully decorated. The restaurant is overpriced, but the food is good. For instance $6 for a prepackaged bowl of Kellogg cereal, for kids. There was one worker in particular (and I didn’t get her name) that was completely obnoxious while policing patrons for their masks. One guy was sitting in the lobby sipping coffee and she proceeded to accost him for not continually raising and lowering his mask with every sip. If your mask slips slightly below your nostrils, she hastily reminds you to wear it correctly. You have to stand in the lobby to wait to enter the restaurant, while wearing your ever-important mask, even if no one else is around. Then, you have to wear it as you walk to your table. As you sit down, in the room full of people some of which who are sitting 2 feet away, you are welcome to remove your mask for the remainder of your time in the restaurant. It’s annoying and so unnecessary. I’m fully vaccinated and if these stupid vaccines are so important then why do I need to stand around by myself in a lobby wearing a useless piece of fabric over my face?

Hotel staff is very friendly would encourage calling and asking.
Have a safe and Fun trip
The hotel doesn’t have any parking of its own neither is it offering any valet service at the moment, they recommend a garage down the block called ‘bourse garage’. I used the app Park Chirp to book a spot, cost $28 for 24 hours.
