The Inn at Penn, a Hilton Hotel, garners praise for its spacious rooms and prime location near the University of Pennsylvania, making it a favorite for visitors to the educational hub. While guests celebrate the hotel's serene atmosphere and commitment to sustainability, some have experienced disturbances.
The staff's attentive and friendly service is often highlighted, although there are occasional mentions of slower service. Cleanliness is a strong suit, yet opinions on room decor and amenities like valet parking lean towards the pricey side, affecting the perceived value for some guests.

Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
We needed a single Sat nite stay and were able to book the last min at the Inn at Penn. It was pricey, but I had Hilton points, so used those. Everyone is extremely helpful and polite. The hotel is clean and welcoming. The Univ of Penn bookstore is next-door, and there is a Starbucks inside.
I would stay again BUT in the room I had, the sliding door to the bathroom was extremely heavy, and I was unable to move it. To their credit, they did come and try and fix it, and when unable to, they did offer us another room, which was a handicapped room and not as nice. So, we left the door open since it was only one nite and stayed in this room.
That door clearly has had a problem for a long time, and it is kind of crazy that there is a sliding door to the bathroom but a swing door to the closet. They need to swap that. Otherwise, it was very quiet. The AC worked great, and the bed was comfy.

I had the opportunity to visit Philadelphia on business and randomly chose The Inn at Penn the location was a factor more so than the price and accommodation. Once I received the daily rates I booked my stay realizing in comparison to most rates I’ve booked with hotels in the past I was probably going to be in a hotel that was at best mediocre. Boy, was I ever wrong. On my arrival I was warmly greeted at the entrance and escorted to check- in that took merely seconds to complete. I was given my room which was quite spacious, clean, and comfortable. The hotel staff made several contacts with me to ensure everything was meeting my expectations however everything exceeded my expectations. If you have an opportunity to book at the Inn at Penn I would recommend it without reservation. I would definitely return.

We were so pleased with the Inn at Penn and the quality of the room and customer service. The location was perfect to visit U Penn and Drexel. The valet service was super expensive but I will say, they were so willing to watch our luggage and have it put in our car when we checked out so we could run to the book store.

We stayed here in February 2021. It wasn't really a great time to stay in a hotel and we really understood that. We were there to visit our son. Hilton sends you a bunch of emails touting how they've partnered with Lysol to be superclean "HILTON Cleanstay" it's called. They tell you all about the protocols before you get there. We got to the hotel and the woman checking us in was very nice and helpful, she let us know that the restaurant was closed due to covid so no Diamond Hilton Honors free breakfast but we could have 2 vouchers for $15 to spend on room service (thats like 2 cups of coffee and 1 muffin at this place). Anyway, the only upgrade they had was for the Pure Wellness room which is great because my son and I have allergies. We get there and the door has one of those stickers on it that says it's been sanitized that you have to break in order to get in. Well, the room is really gross, dusty and sticky. I have wipes with me so I start cleaning. I understand that it's just really hard these days and I don't mind just making sure stuff is clean myself. My husband grabbed the trash can and there was a rotten apple next to it. The apple wasn't really "hiding" it was pretty much just next to the can.It was clear that no cleaned this room. It was a Pure Wellness but it was a pure filth room. We called down to housekeeping. They said they would get it but no one ever came. We called the front desk, waited. Eventually my husband put the apple in the can and left it outside. I called the front desk and the nice lady came up and gave me some more wipes and some spray and paper towels and took the can away. After we left the hotel sent me a survey, I filled it out and wrote a polite letter to Hilton to let them know what happened. The hotel sent me a canned letter in response and I never heard from them again.

Thank you for taking your time to leave thoughts on your stay from back in February. As you can imagine, the pandemic has normalized constant change and many things you have cited have changed since the beginning of the year. Our restaurant partner, Louie Louie, has reopened as has our breakfast restaurant, The University Club. Hilton's CleanStay program has evolved, with certain protocols like the door seal being removed. There is no excuse for the condition that you’ve described in the room that you occupied, and we hope that you’ll accept our apology. Since the beginning of the year, we have had dozens of team members return to work, bringing us much closer to our pre-COVID staffing levels. We hope to be able to provide you with an experience in the future that is better aligned with the clean, comfortable accommodations that we’re known for in University City.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel because he was scheduled for surgery and this facility was close to the hospital. We arrived on Sunday evening and after getting ourselves settled, he decided to take a shower. Imagine our surprise when there was only cold water coming out of the shower as well as the sink! He let it run for a few minutes but it only got colder. I called the front desk to report the issue and was told that there was some sort of outage with the water company and they were working to get it fixed. Ok I can understand that sometimes things happen beyond one’s control, but at $250 a night (hospital rate by the way) I would have thought the hotel would have at least taken a few dollars off the price. I was wrong. I also realize that they are in business to make money, but some things are just plain highway robbery in my opinion. For example there is no self-park option at the hotel itself (yes there are garages nearby but again you are still paying extra for that) and despite the fact that you are already paying quite a bit for your room, they charge an extra $45 a night to valet park your car. If you order room service be prepared to pay a King’s ransom for a meager portion of food at best. I ordered a fruit cup and bowl of oatmeal and it cost $34 by the time all the convenience and service fees were tacked on. The vending machine on our floor had a note on the glass that said beverages would be dispensed at room temperature. I don’t know if this was the case for other floors because I didn’t check - and I thought this to be a minor inconvenience since we were able to get ice and we also had a refrigerator in the room. However, when we attempted to use the glasses provided for our drinks, we noticed they were smudged with lint on the inside so that wasn’t exactly something that l felt comfortable about regarding the care of the rest of the room which they claim is “sanitized”. Perhaps I am asking too much and if it were any other hotel besides the Hilton I might have been more understanding. All I can say is that we were already in a stressful situation with a surgery and this experience did not make things any easier. They should be ashamed of themselves.

We're sorry for the issues you experienced during your recent medical stay. We are one of many city hotels that only offer a valet parking option, and for that, we rely on a third party. We're happy to suggest nearby self-parking options, and as you mentioned those too would come at a cost. Thank you for your feedback and we hope you’ll give us another opportunity soon to make your stay the best it can be.

The hotel is nice, easy to get to from I76. Location is great (near Penn Medicine and CHOP). The staff is polite and the room are clean. however, the hotel is old and tired and it shows. It is a bit overpriced (although hospital patients get a big discount) particularly since there is no parking. The valet at the hotel is expensive. We did not have a chance to eat breakfast since the restaurant opens at 6:30 AM. We made a reservation for one night. The confirmation e-mail stated two nights at a full price (no discount). A hold charge equal to three times the price I ended paying including taxes was put on my credit card.

Thank you for your feedback. We're not entirely clear if you were happy with your stay or not, but we're glad to have been able to offer you a discounted rate as a guest visiting University City for medical reasons. Our valet staff is happy to offer alternate parking options within a several-block radius, but the parking that we offer is valet and is operated by a third-party, Towne Park. It's also not clear from your review if there were billing issues, but if there is anything outstanding that you'd like to discuss, please contact us at PHLID-Front_Office_Managers@hilton.com.

Stayed the first week of February as my husband was having surgery at Univ Penn hospital. Very nice hotel in a cool location in University City college area. Hotel was clean, cozy, plush and just overall really nice. Since my husband was having inpatient surgery for cancer I was therefore alone with my son & this hotel was so very helpful to me at a very difficult time. The staff was able to easily extend my stay when my husband had to stay in the hospital a few more days and thank god for the valet guys, not sure what I would have done without valet to park my car as I had no idea where anything was in the area & would have gotten lost just parking the car plus there's no parking lot so you kind of have to use valet. The charge for parking is not cheap, was around $50/night. The elevators were my only issue, one of them kept making a horrible lurching grinding sound as if it was going to fall when it would come to a stop, needs a serious repairman asap before someone gets hurt. Vending machine on 2nd floor kept giving hot cans of soda, no joke, they were literally HOT. Upper floors vending gave cold soda cans. Aside from that it's a great hotel, they definately take care of you, I would have stayed there again but couldn't afford it a second time. Starbucks is right next door inside the college store tucked away on the 2nd floor. Within walking distance is a CVS and a WaWa, I don't like walking so for me to walk it has to be close. From this hotel to the University of Penn hospital the Ubers were only around $8, DoorDash in the area was a crapshoot, sometimes it was okay, other times no good, Restaurant downstairs but we didn't use it. I felt safe there at night when I went outside to smoke in the early evening & late night hours, 24 hour front desk so someone is always there and there is security late at night & they're on top of anything that goes on so I never felt in danger outside smoking at night which is important to me. The area is safe, lots of college kids & we walked to CVS in the dark & never felt in danger or scared so it's not a seedy area, it can be doable without fear of being mugged or something. They have an exercise room as well. I have no major complaints, if I can afford it again in the future I'll stay there again with zero qualms. Just an overall cool looking hotel in a nice area.

Overall, the hotel was okay. My biggest complain is that it wasn't as clean as it should have been, which negatively colored my experience. The bathroom was not clean, there was hair all over the place (in and on the sink, on the floor counter, in the shower) and in/on the towels. I requested a new set of towels and they sent those up- but they had long strands of hair mixed in too. It was disappointing, and just felt uncomfortable, because I wondered about what else may not have been cleaned... I ended up cleaning the sink/counter/shower myself so that I would feel comfortable using it (I got in kinda late and by the time I was showering for bed it was quite late, and I didn't want to call housekeeping that late).

We stayed for just one night to visit colleges in the Philadelphia area. It was the right place for us. Conveniently located by University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University, everything was walkable and in a neighborhood where we felt reasonably safe. The room was pretty comfortable for the most part (though the beds could have been a little more firm, and the paint job in the bathroom was a little sloppy), and with the hotel being in a side street it was quiet. We enjoyed breakfast which had both homemade dish’s and buffet items. Fresh fruit assortment and steel cut oats. If we need to return to this area of Philly, I would definitely stay here again. Just be aware: all hotels in the city offer overnight parking at an average extra cost of anywhere between $25 and $55. This hotel does not have its own parking lot so the options are either to valet for $58 or park yourself about a block away for $25.
