Nestled in the heart of Philadelphia, the W Philadelphia has earned accolades from many guests for its spotless premises and well-equipped rooms. The hotel's prime location is a hit, surrounded by numerous dining and shopping venues.
While the modern amenities and stylish atmosphere receive positive marks, some guests have noted occasional maintenance issues and an atmosphere that can be more lively than serene. Opinions on service and value are mixed; some praise the staff's friendliness, while others find the additional costs for amenities and parking to be steep.

As background, I am a Marriott Lifetime Bonvoy Titanuim status member and booked our Friday night stay in a Spectacular Guest Room using 50,000 points. I then was able to use one of my suite night awards to apply to the reservation hoping for an upgrade.
A few glitches:
Our stay was a Friday night in March, my wife and I decided to stay downtown to celebrate her birthday. I talked to the hotel ahead of time to make a few special arrangements. They referred me to a local floral show to get flowers delivered to the room, I called and asked them to be in the room before our arrival and they were. I also asked the hotel, via chat in the Marriott app, to have a champagne bucket and glasses in the room with ice upon arrival. That was not in the room upon arrival and I had to contact them again via phone call, to have that delivered. I also had to ask for an iron since that was missing from the room. A final minor issue was when we went to leave the next day, the valet had trouble finding our car, it took them 30+ minutes to finally get it. These few miscues are why I gave them 4 out of 5 stars. Nothing horrible, just a few issues they need to work out being one of Marriott's Distinctive Luxury category hotels.
The Review:
We drove to the W and had the car valet parked after pulling up to the front of the hotel. Very smooth process, no issues. Upon check-in we we informed that we had been upgraded to a Fantastic, 1 Bedroom 2 room Suite, 1 King, Skyline view, Corner room. The rooms at this hotel are not practical but are very cool and swank! And our upgraded room did not disappoint. It was a huge corner 2 room suite with the living room have a long couch, big TV, bar, and hanging chair, and all with corner windows and great city views! This would be a great room to host a group for some "pre-game" before heading out on the town. The living room also had a 1/2 bath so you did not have to go into the bedroom to use the bathroom. The bedroom was separated from the living room by a curtain. It had a tub in the middle of the room (not practical but very hip!) and great city views. We were very happy with the upgraded accommodations. The next morning I used the gym. It was more than adequate and had two rooms, so plenty of space to do any type of workout. After the gym I jumped in the heated pool on the Wet deck) for a morning dip, this was exhilarating with the cool March morning air and welcome after a tough workout. For breakfast we ate at Dolce, they credited me $40 for breakfast for being a Titanium member. Our meal was excellent. Of course it costs more than $40, but was well worth it.
After all said and done, it was a fun night downtown and a good stay at the W. When we stay downtown in the future, this is the first hotel I look to book. It is in a great location, its only been open for 8 months so everything is very new, the rooms are funky and definitely make you feel like you are doing something special. I look forward to more stays a The W Philadelphia!

The hotel recently opened in August but already has signs of wear and tear. The rooms lack the polished look expected of a full renovation and rebranding.
Upon arrival there were several valet attendants chatting at the valet stand, it took several minutes to get their attention, with no offer to assist with luggage.
In line with the W brand, the lobby and rooms cater to a younger, hip crowd boosting a “party” environment. Room decor is dark and eclectic with small bathrooms and a separate wash station oddly positioned at the door entrance. The decor and layout did not work for me, but depending on your preference, others will enjoy it.
The hotel is operating on a COVID housekeeping schedule, servicing rooms every three days. My concern is that this schedule was not disclosed at check-in, preventing our family of four from requesting a much needed room refresh.
Service at the lobby bar was on par with valet, indifferent with long wait times.
Glad I checked out the newest addition to the Bonvoy collection in Philly but I would not return.

We just stayed at the newly opened W Philadelphia in Center City and loved it, but for a few minor items, which is why I gave it 4 stars and not 5. The staff is wonderful (shout out to JF!) and the adjoining Dolce Restaurant is a great place for breakfast, even if it is a bit pricey. Our $40 breakfast dining credit amenity was never enough to cover the bill, but better than no credit at all (and certainly a much better bargain than 1000 Bonvoy points as a welcome amenity). Our "cool corner room" on the 36th floor was pretty cool and had great views. But we were a bit taken aback by the door opening right into the bathroom sink area, and the fact that there was only one long sink rather than two. Speaking of the door, it was very heavy and often difficult to open. There is also a lack of light in the dark room and only one control for all of the lights, except for the toilet area and small bedside lamps. Otherwise, one control turned on and off all of the other lights in the room. Separate controls would have been much more appreciated and useful. Bar prices were also quite high with two drinks each generally costing around $80 with tip but I guess that's to be expected in a good hotel bar in a big city. Would we stay here again? Absolutely. Great location, beautiful hotel and wonderful staff. But it ain't perfect...not yet, at least.

Plain awful.
The decor is dark, as in black walls, black furniture and extremely minimal light. The Darth Vader ambiance is in the lobby, the halls, and yes, the rooms and bathrooms. One cannot just switch lights on…the switch is coded “hello, mood, glow” and such. These are coded; until one works out the nonsense, using the bathroom at night turns on all room lights. The saving grace is that the light is so minimal that the light might not disturb sound sleepers.
Adding to the charm, the AC is extremely loud, and extremely bad at maintaining an even temperature. The room gradually gets quite hot, then the AC kicks on and one has to raise the volume if watching TV. Of course, when the AC kicks off, the TV is impossibly loud.
There is not a single comfortable chair or corner in which to lounge. The room we had looked into someone else’s room.
And add to this that housekeeping, trash pick up, and fresh towels are only provided every three days.
And we could not even say, “Well, at least it was cheap.” Sadly, one pays good money for this sad place.
All this said, the staff was friendly, and the Dolce restaurant attached to the hotel is good.

I would rate this hotel 4.5 stars. We checked in on Friday night where the there was loud music playing in the hotel. The bar was nice, and busy, we were happy to hang out here as it seemed like the place to be. It was nice that we couldn’t hear the loud music in our room. We were on the 36th floor and met with a beautiful view of the Centre City, it was very impressive. The decor was modern and chic. The lighting was dark.
The location of the hotel was perfect, it was close enough to walk to all the attractions and on one of the main streets so very easy to pop into the shops.
The staff were friendly. They were helpful if you had a question, and would greet us at the front in the hotel.
Overall I was very happy to stay here and would stay here again and would recommend friends and family to stay here.
There were a few areas I would improve which are:
1) the lighting. All hotels are dark and to be expected to not have great lighting, however this hotel was particularly dark; not a big deal but would be nice to have a brighter setting
2) the house keeping is done every third day which we weren’t made aware of when we checked in. We had found this out after requesting for more shower gel. We checked in on Friday and checked out on Monday. It can be done sooner if you inform the staff you would wish for this to be done. Again, not a big deal but would be nice to a refresh maybe every other day rather than 3 days
3) the bathroom has the potential to get wet, as the tap is not next to the sink. With the housekeeping not being done daily there were a lot of water marks

I stayed at the W Philadelphia last week in what is one of the newest W branded hotels in Marriott‘s extensive collection, and I am pleased to report that I found everything to be of a particularly high standard.
We were given a room weigh up on the 43rd floor with my FNA clearing several days prior.
The suite which consisted of a living room and separate bedroom area offering incredible views on two sides of the Philadelphia skyline and surrounding city.
The hotel itself also appears to be of a firm build with decent public areas and a really lovely adjoining restaurant, Dulce, where Breakfast is enjoyed six days a week (although not on a Monday when it is closed).
We arrived on a busy Friday night and the Welcome Agents could barely hear us speak as a booming party was taking place in the Living Room of the hotel. The staff did the best they could and attempted to explain all of the benefits of the hotel.
Overall the staff were friendly and provided me with extra towels each night and were quick to erect a cot and additional rollaway bed for children.
Breakfast at Dulce was also a similarly high standard and we also ate here one evening. I found the food to be excellent at both mealtime.
Sadly, the Breakfast Amenity only provides a $40 credit rather than the entire breakfast to be covered. Nevertheless, this brought the level of the bill down to a more acceptable level. Why anybody would go for points rather than $40 a day in food and beverage credit is beyond me. On the day, the restaurant was closed for breakfast we enjoyed in room dining where the menu was exactly the same and even price complete with delivery fees and tips was about the same.
The seventh floor of the hotel has a heated open air swimming pool, which was a fabulous way to spend a chilly winter's evening, with the buildings of Philadelphia looming overhead. The water temperature of the pool was that of a hot bath. The only downside Was when getting out of the swimming pool, the chilly winter air made it most uncomfortable. We scurried around to the side entrance in order to get back into the warmth of our room, and this I would say, is the only downside to the warmth of a winters dip.
Overall, I would not hesitate to stay here again on a future visit to the 'City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection'.

My family (including two small children and two cats!) stayed here for a week and a half in early January while preparing for a move overseas. We were able to use Marriot suite night awards to secure a BEAUTIFUL suite with additional bedroom for kids. The hallway was quiet and peaceful. Housekeeping came at requested time daily. In room dining and attached restaurant were both great in terms of quality of food and service. We were treated SO WELL by the concierge, Jean-Francois, and all staff throughout our stay, despite making many small daily requests (printing documents, alerting us to packages, assisting with scheduling a happy hour gathering for friends on a busy Friday evening in the hotel bar/lobby, etc.) My daughter and I even enjoyed the outdoor heated pool in below freezing temps one evening! It was be an amazing space to visit when the weather is warm. It was truly the best way to end our 10+ years of living in Philly. I look forward to returning for a visit.

From the moment we walked in you could tell that it was all about the customer and making sure they had the best stay possible.
Everything from the server at breakfast remembering that as a couple of brits on holiday he saw us come in and had our English breakfast tea ready for us, the maid service making sure the room was spotless and even going above and beyond on occasions to the bar tender remembering what wine we liked.
If I had one negative it would be on the Friday evening having to go back to the room to get ID to get into the bar but being such a small thing and the staff being so apologetic about it I would just say make sure you carry ID with you.
If anyone is planning to go to Philadelphia and want to spoil themselves this would be the place I recommend

Of all the hotels that are supposedly 5 stars and advertises luxury and comfort, this is one of the worst I have ever stayed. The room essentially does not have enough light for a human being to manage normal activities. You have to be a bat to be able to maneuver in that place. You'll need your phone flash light to perform any activity. One of the light fixtures on the night stand was missing, thereby compounding the problem. The lamps give no luminosity, one of them was covered with thick shading and the bulb was just a few watts rendering it useless. The light in the bathroom is equally faint. If you have to work, you'll seat at a desk staring at the back of a TV. Good luck if you have to zoom or VC in any way, you'll be a ghost on the screen with a tacky background (be sure to change it or fade it as it looks most strange in the penumbra of the room). To open and shut the curtains you have to climb and stand on the bed as it is right behind it, there is absolutely no room to reach the curtains otherwise. Whoever designed this room was not thinking about functionality at all. My room faced a wall in the 35th floor. No slippers, walk on bare floor. No bathtub. The temperature in the room was either freezing or too warm. No arm chairs or any chair in the room for that matter. The fittings and furniture look ultra cheap, with a pretentious style that is made with poor quality materials. The place is relatively new (I saw it being built as I used to live very close), and it already looks dated. The internet is terrible, really slow, one cannot stream, and they charge you for it. The music on the elevators is really loud, you can't hear anything if you happen to be on a call, or it is just simply annoying if you are just traveling up and down. The restaurant is an Italian place surprisingly mediocre. The seating in the lobby is awkward; same with the bar, which is difficult to share with another interlocutor unless you're seating side by side. The staff is terse and borderline rude, I found myself repeating the same requests several times and getting stares of contempt, so I stopped asking for anything. They do not replenish the coffee or any other amenity (not even the paper pad) and they clean the rooms really late. I could go on. It is an expensive product for the experience. Look elsewhere in the city, unless you can use waves beyond the light spectrum to move around and do not mind any of the above.

With W Hotels around the world I was excited to visit W Philadelphia. Located in the heart of the city and well decorated l, elegant, modern and fun as you would expect from the brand.
And that’s where my excitement kind of ended. Service leaves much to be desired. Whatever/whenever looks more like whatever/duh. Simple request for amenity in the room just never happened. Biggest disappointment is valet parking. Complete mess that left us waiting for a car for hour and half. “Manager” apologized and promised that overpriced terrible valet will be comped, well that was a lie, we were charged for this nonsense.
Bar and pool area are mostly for local who know someone working there and once you realize that you are just a guest who doesn’t need to be there, it gets easier. As hotel guest you expect to be greeted but instead you need to quietly sneak around W employee greeting buddies.
I was surprised to see trademark welcome mats, those good morning/evening/night, were changed properly. But..but… but what’s the point when they are all filthy. Vacuum them, wash them…..

On the end hotel is beautiful, rooms are charming and seductive, but service is just not W one would expect. If I wanted to admire chandeliers I would go to museum not hotel.
