We loved our short stay at the Inn . Staff were friendly and helpful. and accomodating. Location in central city was very convenient to historic settings, retaurants etc. much within walking distance.
I left a clothing item and they helped expedite a difficult fedex return process.
We highly recommend the Alexander Inn.

This wonderfully managed historical hotel is the perfect jumping off spot to explore Philadelphia's rich colonial heritage. A few blocks walk takes you to Independence Square where the Declaration of Independence was signed and the Constitution ratified. A block further and you're at the Liberty Bell. There are a ton of great restaurants just a few blocks away. We tried Bud & Marilyn's, Alma de Cuba, IndeBlue and Chatayee Thai. All fabulous. A visit to Philadelphia isn't complete without a walk to Market Street and a stop at the Reading Terminal for a cheese steak. We enjoyed one at Spataros. A short taxi ride or Uber gets you to the world famous Philadelphia Museum of Art, whose steps were made famous by Sylvester Stalllone in Rocky and where everyone stops for a picture. Across the parkway at the Perelman Building is a fabulous exhibit "Off the Wall: American Art to Wear." Very comfortable pillows and beds and strong wifi make you forget the smallness of the rooms and their thin walls. Above all it's the incredible efficiency of the front desk staff (owners perhaps) who give perfect directions, nice continental breakfasts
with fresh pastries, a fitness center, a computer to print out your boarding pass, friendly housekeepers and all day coffee and tea that make all the difference.

We really enjoyed our stay in May, 2022 at the Alexander Inn. The inn is located conveniently close to a lot of great restaurants and bars, but our stay was quiet. It seems to be in Philly's "Gayborhood," so if you're close minded, it may not be for you. We were lucky enough to get a corner room, which gave us two chairs, a desk, a closet, and a dresser. It was a nice amount of room. Some of the other rooms looked small-like in NYC. Although a little worn, everything was very clean and quaint. We heard that the inn is under new ownership and will be renovated soon. I hope they keep the mid century modern furniture! A continental breakfast is laid out every morning. Tea, coffee, and juice are available along with croissants, bagels, and bananas. Soap, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner are provided and the room is cleaned and towels replaced each day. The only negative is that the parking lot is a few blocks away and more expensive than I expected--$36 with their "discount" per night. I should have asked first. Street parking is difficult, but not impossible.
Definitely recommend!

My wife and I love boutique hotels, therefore we chose the Alexander Inn over the more sizable hotels in central Philadelphia. It’s saving grace was the young gentleman checking us in because it was downhill from there even though we benefited from a room choice based on his knowledge. In short I’ll limit it to 3 downsides.
1. The bed had the hard rubber consistency of a trampoline, including its bounce
2. Breakfast featured a Jimmy Johns breakfast biscuit advertised by a picture poorly ripped from the product’s cardboard box
3. It’s decor is very, very tired
I see it generally gets good ratings. Each to their own I guess

Thank you for your comments. Direct guest feedback is greatly appreciated. Although we anticipate exceeding expectations of our guests on a consistent level, we clearly missed the mark here for your stay. We thank you for your patronage. Although third party booking sites have become the norm for many and offer both speed and efficiency, they zero personal contact. Might we suggest a simple call to your hotel of choice. That call could provide a much needed first hand, knowledgeable response to concerns you may have and the amenities you seek. Thank you again for your patronage.

Centrally located, congenial, clean and reasonable, four factors that made our three days stay at the Alexander most pleasant, and as had been cited in the personal recommendations of a past guest and now trusted local. Our fourth floor corner room was relatively spacious and comfortable, and quiet. Though to be sure modern and fashionably functionally hip it is not. The decor is dated, the furnishings show their age, and so did some of the guests when we visited, in particular at breakfast. Though free, you might consider a nearby eatery for a stronger coffee and more privacy. There are many to chose from, and most everything is in walking distance. We look forward to returning.

We used this hotel because it was near to the Center City hospitals where we had an appointment. Parking was two blocks away, but a clean and safe garage so I was happy. The hotel staff were very solicitous to our comfort and needs being met as well as cleanliness. We were initially booked into a smaller room, but advised that if it didn't meet our needs, they could easily move us, and they did move us into a nice corner room with a smile. All the staff were exceptional. We will stay here again on future trips.

I used to live in Philly and my parents stayed at the Alexander Inn every time they came to visit. They loved it there and recommended we stay there for our trip. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and make every effort to ensure the comfort of their guests. The hotel is a bit old-fashioned and quirky, and not what you may consider 'luxury,' but it's perfectly comfortable. They serve a very nice complimentary breakfast in the lobby downstairs, which I think is included with every booking. We only stayed one night, but the traffic/street noise was minimal, even for being on the 2nd floor in Center City. Our room didn't have blackout curtains, which was fine for us, but it was a bit light in the morning if that bothers you. The floors are also old and kind of creaky, so we could hear when other guests walked by our room, but it wasn't a big deal for us. The bed was comfy, the towels were soft, and everyone was so nice and eager to please. Overall, a great and very reasonably-priced boutique hotel with very kind staff close to everything Center City Philly has to offer!

We had the option between this quaint little hotel and the very nice Marriott, at a smoking deal of the same price. We chose this adorable property based on photos and reviews, and we were not disappointed. Our reservationist was nervous that myself, my 14 year old, and my 1 year old would not fit in the small room, but there was more than enough space. The front desk agent even brought us a crib when I forgot my pack n play.
The staff was all so great and accommodating. They seemed like they enjoyed being there and genuinely enjoyed helping guests.
My daughter and I used the workout facility and the computers at night. The equipment was surprisingly modern and updated. The breakfast was a little different due to COVID, but we reserved a time and had no problems. My kids weren’t ready to come down quite yet, so the gentleman at the front desk brought me a wicker tray and let me load it up for the kids so I could let them eat in their room.
I’m used to a memory foam mattress, and the mattresses here are more stiff, but it actually felt wonderful on my back after spending the day walking around.
The location is perfect. As other reviewers pointed out, it’s right in the middle of everything. We walked to a few parks and the splash pad at the capitol building, and to the huge Macy’s, which was the first department in the US.
I would definitely stay here again, alone or with my family. I highly recommend this property over any chains. You can stay at a Doubletree anywhere, The Alexander is a true Philly experience.

The room we received after check-in was small and my partner suffers from claustrophobia so after a request from super friendly & helpful Chrisy she provided us with a much nicer room and we enjoyed our two day stay. Maybe we are spoiled by Ultimo cappuccinos & their to-kill-for almond croissants, so we couldn't even eat the gratis breakfast. The place is clean and well maintained. Absolutely value for money in a central location. Note: no shower caps provided.

My wife and I stayed two nights here when visiting Philadelphia. We chose it becasue the hotel was positively reviewed, reasonably priced, and within walking distance of the sites. The are many restaurants in the area and the neighborhood is lively. We walked to the Reading Terminal Market, and Museum of the American Revolution. The staff is helpful and friendly. They serve a truly continental breakfast, as there was just juice, coffee, croissants, and bagels. Although, the bagels were the type that you can buy prepacked and were cold, as if it just came out of the refrigerator, but a toaster is available. While there are no refrigerators in the room, there is a general use refrigerator you can use, and you are provided a claim ticket for your food. Parking is an issue in Philadelphia, but the Alexander is associated with a garage two blocks away, that costs $32/day. There is free wi-fi, card-keys are used, and toiletries are provided. The standard queen room we reserved for kind of small for two people as there was only one chair in it. We spent some of our time sitting in the lobby area which was comfortable. There is nice art work on the walls.
