Cons: because they share lot with other establishments, parking can be a hassle.
Some furnitures were worn, including bathroom tub (rust stains are not attractive). When we checked in we noticed that in the corners of the room were dust and trash, not vacuumed. Found hair in bathroom and closet space. Made us paranoid so we wiped down everything on our own with Lysol wipes. Noticed that hotel carpets were stained and the stainless steel in the elevators can have better treatment.
I would only come back to stay here if they improved on house keeping.
Be aware that the hotel is not located close to the tourist attractions of Phila, so it would only be convenient if one wants to be in the suburbs. Finally, the hotel advertises on Trip Advisor that it offers free parking, but in fact they charge $14 a night.
When the weekend came around, the place was overrun by children, and I could not enjoy a moment in the pool, or lobby, or anything.
There are other local hotels, avoid this one.
Interestingly, this experience taught me that the COVID virus has some fascinating properties. If you are in your room, it is extremely deadly and virulent and requires complete isolation. However, if you’re in the restaurant or bar spending money, you can congregate freely and maskless. I had no idea spending money had anti-viral properties. This keeps the restaurant workers very busy. On the other hand, the housekeepers that previously worked there now have a chance to pursue other interests with their free time (perhaps finding new recipes for dog food to feed their families.
The room itself was fun. We had a resident pet (see enclosed picture) who went out of her way to kill any insects in one corner of our room. There was a fun puzzle sticker peeling away in the shower (see picture). I can’t figure out what it means, can you? We also enjoyed the extra space provided by not having a security safe in the room. Who needs one when no one will ever come in.
The employees were fun too. When I called to reserve the pool per the instructions on the lovely Valued Guest note, we were told we didn’t need to. Haha Mr. Desk Clerk – gaslighting is fun.
In keeping with their apparent motto of “We can always do less”, I had an experience in the Bistro with a barista who was extremely eager to do a great job and take good care of me. But management noticed immediately and instantly reprimanded him for it. I like a business that stick to its values!
I wanted to let management know about my fun and interesting experience. As you’ll see at the bottom of the Valued Guest note, they let us know how desperately they want to exceed our expectations and ask us to fill out a brief survey on the back of the letter. But flip it over and hahaha it’s a blank page.
Well played Courtyard… well played.
