This review is somewhat mixed. The positive: it is reasonably priced over the late December into NYE week; everything else comparable you would have to pay a lot more. The location is fantastic. Close to so many restaurants, cafes, subway stations, Grand Central. Walking distance even to Time Square if you like a brisk walk. Surprisingly it has a coffee/espresso station on the Mezz level, complimentary.

It has a good size grocery store across the street for some quick snacks, water and such. The hotel staff is very friendly. The doorman assisted in securing a car transfer to the airport on our day of departure. That was greatly appreciated.

Our king size room is postage stamp size. Understandably so for Manhattan. The bed was comfortable and no issued with their pillows. The room itself is very clean.
Has limited storage with a small closet, but it was fine for the week stay.

It has no in room safe. The HVAC system sounds like a freight train when on; if you turn it off, the room heats up so fast because of the TV, lights, etc. Not the best for sleep quality. Our room was located on the 29th floor. Even with that, you could hear the road noise like passing traffic, some road work.

We recently stayed here for four nights and had a total of two rooms in our party. Overall we had a good stay and the location is very accessible to Bryant Park which is across the street and the location is just a short walk to Times Square. I highly recommend taking a walk to Joe’s pizza. Subway access wasn’t as close as some of the other hotels but since it’s New York expect everything to be a short walk.

The business area was very small and on the second floor in a tight space. The gym was really small as well. During our stay only one elevator was working for two of the days. There was not options for drinks but a short walk to a CVS allowed us to pick up water bottles. They did have a coffee station on the second floor near the business area. In the lobby to the left there was what looks like a vending machine for things like Tylenol, etc. but I did not notice snacks.

One of the rooms had difficulty staying cool. The air conditioning unit would work for periods of time and then maintenance would have to come and try to fix it. There was many nights that we were very uncomfortable. At the time they stated they did not have another air conditioning unit to replace it. The bathrooms came with Paul Mitchell tea tree shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The beds were firm but the pillows as always are amazing when staying at a courtyard.

On Tuesday night we stayed overnight at the Courtyard at 5th avenue and 40th street in New York City. We had a good time and would return.

The hotel is a tall, somewhat narrow building in a great location, a shirt walk from the New York Public Library, Bryant Park and Times Square. It’s a smart, attractive hotel with a friendly, helpful staff.

The hotel is about 30 stories tall, with about 6 rooms on our floor, the 23rd floor. The rooms aren’t big. Not counting the bathroom, the room was about 12x20 feet. It had two queen sized beds. Everything looks well maintained and very clean. The bathroom had a tub and shower curtain. It also had the shampoo and conditioner in pub bottles on the shower wall. While in the shower, I reached out to balance myself, there was a grab bar exactly where you expect it would be.

De there negatives? The property isn’t huge, so, there isn’t a restaurant or onsite parking. On the plus side, there is a fitness center and a coffee bar.

We had a sound sleep. It was overall a good experience. We would return.

Stayed here for quick staycation. The only reason to pick this hotel was the location (proximity to the Grand Central and Bryant park) since we were taking a train to NYC. in that regard, not much to complain here. the hotel otherwise is pretty average in terms of facility.

two major issues I saw 1) elevator wait time was insane which is to be expected when you build a tall hotel and squeeze as many rooms as this hotel did per floor. 2) I think they gave us accessible room in the lowest floor possible even though we paid cash rate for standard room and I had gold status (which granted doesn't guarantee upgrade but at least did good job preventing downgrades). not worth complaining about since lower floor did mean I could take stairs when elevator was taking forever, but alas.

I'm a bit torn because we do take train down a lot but I will likely try to find a different hotel next time and see how it compares

This hotel is in a great location, though when we stayed it wasn't easy to see because it was covered in scaffolding. We were on a very high floor and one of the two elevators was out of service. The room was ok, no refrigerator and it looked out onto another building about 10 feet away so we had to keep our blinds drawn. They offer coffee/tea from a machine. The staff at the front desk, as well as the valet, were always courteous and helpful when we needed things.

Exceptional location and hospitality! Eddie and Willie took such care explaining where to park to receive hotel discount, ensuring we were comfortable and had all we needed. Every time they saw us walking through the lobby, they flashed their huge smiles, making us feel welcomed. The housekeeper on our floor 11th on Th 8/15 at approx. 1:30pm was also very welcoming offering extra towels and making herself available should we need anything at all. I regret not asking her name. Driving almost 5 hours from the Cape to NYC left me a bit frazzled. Eddie, Willie and the lovely housekeeper on the 11th floor made me exhale in relief. I was among warm and caring professionals. The room, which was reserved by the incomparable Joseph Marquez was just perfect. It was a last minute trip. The room had 2 double beds which were most comfortable. I was surprised that a NYC hotel room in the middle of all it's hustle and bustle could afford us such a peaceful nights sleep. Thank you to the team! We will be back!

We had reserved to stay here for 2 nights. We arrived (family of 4) at around 8pm on a Saturday. Just before us and just after us, other families both with young children arrived. We were all told the same thing. The hotel was overbooked and there was no room for us. To add insult to injury we had already been charged for the night for a room that wasn't even available! The hotel would have been paid twice for the same room! Plus no alternate plan for our accommodation (or the other families) had been arranged. We waited at least 25 minutes while the manager called around to find us a 'comparable type' room. Once at the alternate hotel, it was far from Mid-town where we had wanted to be, it was loud and dirty and had only double beds (not comparable to the queen beds we had reserved).

When we returned the next day for the second nights' stay, the receptionist politely checked us in but there was no amount showing on the credit card machine (not his fault), when we asked what the amount would be, we were told a price that was about $100 more than our original reservation. We showed him the printed reservation which was made directly through the Marriot website, not a 3rd party, and the price was changed but had we not asked, we would have been very surprised when we got our credit card bill!

To be fair, and why I gave only a 'poor' rating instead of a 'terrible' rating, our night at the alternate hotel was paid for, the one night at this hotel was refunded and our taxi to & from the alternate hotel was paid for. The room was clean and quiet. The staff (esp. the doorman(?) were all friendly. It was Marriots fault the hotel was overbooked and that we were charged incorrectly. The manager should have realized this overbooking was happening and at least looked into alternatives for guests.

Responded 27 Aug 2023
Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at our hotel. We deeply regret the inconveniences you and your family faced during your stay, and we appreciate your candid feedback. We're truly sorry for the overbooking situation that occurred during your arrival. This was an unfortunate occurrence that does not reflect our usual standards. Your frustration is completely understandable, and we apologize for any distress it caused. We should have had better contingency plans in place to accommodate our guests during such situations. The issues with the reservation amount and the confusion surrounding it are also deeply regrettable. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. Regarding the extra $100 you were told about, please be assured that it was meant as a security deposit, and it's entirely refundable upon checkout. We apologize for any lack of clarity in communication regarding this matter. We're glad to hear that you found the room to be clean and quiet, and we appreciate your kind words about our staff, especially the doorman. Your acknowledgment of their friendliness is greatly appreciated. We've taken your feedback seriously, and we're committed to learning from these incidents to improve our service and prevent similar issues from arising in the future. We're glad that we were able to refund your first night's stay and cover the costs of your alternate accommodations and transportation. Thank you again for sharing your feedback.

My wife and I stayed here in January 2022. We got a very good room rate. The hotel is located near the New York Public Library and Bryant Park. It is 10-15 minutes walking to Times Square and Broadway theaters. It is a vertical hotel. The lobby is not very big and is mainly for checking in. With Omnicron out of control, I wish both the front desk staff had been wearing their masks properly but I did not get that close (an area of improvement for the hotel) and it was OK during check in. Our room was very good. It was a corner room with two comfortable beds, shower, TV. Overall we had a very good stay here and we will stay here again in the future and add it to our list of preferred hotels as it is good value in a good Midtown location.

I would have given the hotel a three or four star rating if it wasn't for the unauthorized charge(s) that appeared on my credit card statement two weeks after I checked out. I spoke with the front desk after the charges appeared and they told me that I had been charged for someone with a similar name who stayed there in July (my stay was prepaid for one day in September I wasn't even in the US in July). I have left four or five messages for the accounting department with no response.

I can’t say enough about this hotel. We were a bit nervous as this was our first trip to NYC. This place checks all the boxes. Close to subway station, within walking distance of many attractions, places to eat and drink nearby, rooms (including bathroom) are large and clean, staff is pleasant and helpful. A nice little extra is the free hot drink bar. We also loved that it’s right across from the New York Public Library/Bryant Park which was great for morning walks. We would definitely stay here again!

The Courtyard Manhattan Broadway on the East side does NOT have a coffee maker. it does have a hair dryer. It is one of the worst Courtyards I have ever stayed in. The Courtyard Broadway on the West side is a far better choice and does have both amenities.
