Clean room, helpful and kind staff, great view... We were exceptionally pleased with our visit! We were concerned because so many reviews talked about this hotel being a homeless shelter. An officer explained that the hotel did house them during the shelter-in-place in order to help keep them safe. However, they no longer reside there, and the hotel has been cleaned and repaired since then. (I do have FULL compassion for the homeless population but understand not wanting to share a hotel with them.) We could not see the ball drop from our room. However, you can stand on the sidewalk and see the ball drop for New Year's if you choose, but we chose to stand inside the barricade for the full experience. We are very picky about hotels, and this one met and exceeded all of our expectations! We absolutely loved our stay! If you have any questions about your stay, be sure that you are talking to someone who actually works there and not just the booking/reservation people. They are not familiar with the hotel, so their information is not always accurate.

We stayed at this hotel a few years ago and have jumped around from various neighbourhoods. As of today, The Manhattan will ALWAYS have us as a repeat customer after the service we received from Kiat Lim (in-house reservations). We booked our 3 night stay through a third party 2 months ago and after trying for 5 days to cancel/change our stay through the third party, I decided to call the hotel myself. Since we are in unprecedented times, Kiat was kind enough to cancel without penalty/expectation to rebook. I spent over 15 hours with the third party agency waiting to get answers over 5 days, and in 12 minutes Kiat was able to assure me all would be okay and we would not be charged. Wish I had called this hotel myself 5 days prior. During such stressful times with regards to travel and re-arranging plans etc..., Kiat was absolutely wonderful. We will be back in Oct for the long weekend to continue our plans and will not go anywhere else. Thanks again to Kiat for his incredible service!!!!!

Serta at the front desk gave us excellent customer service when checking in !!! Highly recommend this hotel next time we come to New York we will make sure to check into this hotel as your first choice you won’t regret it! The room is so nice with a beautiful view of Times Square.

worst experience ever, 1-I exchanged more than 6 emails with the hotel (ahead of my travel) to confirm parking location & free fees, once I arrived to NY, I wasted 3 hours as all info. was given to me was wrong. they apologized, oh yeah after I wasted the 1st whole day. 2-room sucks, too old, lights not working, water & ice machines not working. 3-phone not working for the whole stay (4days, 3 nights), however, they can provide another room if you pack up all your stuff & put them in the lobby & then they will try to find another room as it was crowded for the new yea Eve. (WTF) 4-no mini bar. 5-I'd honestly rate this hotel as 1 star even some 1 start are better. my advice, save you temper and health, pay little more & book better hotel than this POS. Thank you!

I booked a trip to NYC for my bday. I arrived in the late afternoon with my daughter, and as we were getting settled, i kept noticing things that were broken or missing. The TV didn’t work - they sent someone up, a poor elderly man who seemed in obvious pain, who had to rewire something under the desk to make the TV work. When I checked in, I asked for extra blankets because I knew we might need them. In the room, there were actually NO blankets - just the duvet thing that no one actually uses because you know its probably gross. So I had to call for that. Then I noticed that in the bathroom there was only one little bar of soap, labeled facial soap. No body wash, no shampoo, no conditioner. Apparently they only give those to the VIPs. I had to go out and buy some. The tub/shower was ridiculous. It did not drain, so you stood in accumulating water as you showered. The floor of the tub was uneven - like some sort of bar in it. It made it very dangerous to stand in. On the morning after arrival, there was a pounding on my door. I opened the door cautiously, and a man claiming to be security said there was someone in the lobby to see me. I do not know anyone in the city. I asked him - what does the person look like? He said he didn’t know. it was a male. I said, what does he want? He said, he didn’t know, was asking for you. I told this man who claimed he was security to go back down stairs and I would meet them there in a minute. So I had to hurriedly get dressed, secure the room, and when I got to the lobby, the security guy says “oh, wrong room.” No apologies, no remorse for scaring the hell out of me and waking us at 6 am. There was a constant waft of weed coming through the cracks in the building, particularly through the bathroom. It was nightly. There is supposed to be no smoking in the building. Having my minor child, with a history of asthma with me, this was more than an annoyance. The fire alarm went off while I was in the lobby and I asked the doorman about it and he just shrugged. The only good thing about this place was the location. When I checked out after my 3 night stay, I relayed all this to the person at the counter and he apologized and gave me a discount, and actually recommended that I write this review. Only decent interaction with one of their employees the entire time.
