The Thompson Central Park New York is celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere and prime Midtown Manhattan location, with easy access to Central Park. The hotel's staff receives accolades for professionalism, enhancing the hotel's inviting ambience with live jazz and modern rooms. However, guests have called out issues with soundproofing, leading to noise disturbances, and inconsistent housekeeping. While the amenities are well-received, including lounges and a fitness center, the value proposition is often questioned due to high costs and additional fees.

This hotel was great. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The 3rd-floor lounge served up yummy breakfast food and appetizers/drinks for dinner. The location couldn't have been better especially if you want to explore Central Park. The rooms are clean and the bed is very comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we enjoyed chatting with Bob, our server from Parkers who was the highlight of our evening happy hours. He graciously put up with our change-in-order requests and accommodated our group with ease. We will for sure be back.

Even though the front desk attendant gave me a less than stellar greeting when I arrived (i.e. I stood alone in front of the desk for almost a minute before he acknowledged me), the rest of the hotel staff were amiable, especially housekeeping and the restaurant personnel. I received an upgrade to room 1608 on a higher floor, but this was no larger than the standard double that I originally booked. It was roomy by NYC standards and came equipped with a small refrigerator, bathrobes, plush slippers (the best I've ever had from a hotel), plenty of charging ports near the desk and beds, and a cute sitting nook perfect for having a cup of tea or reading the newspaper. The only downside of the room was the fact that I could still hear the street traffic below while trying to sleep.

I had an energizing workout on the Peloton in the gym Saturday morning, but it did get crowded with guests at 7AM. Probably the best part of my Thompson experience was enjoying a brunch at Parker's on both days of my stay. Globalist breakfast (an entree, a hot drink, and a cold drink) was included for 2 people, so I didn't have to pay the $50/person it otherwise would have cost. Both mornings I ordered the Healthier Elvis (almond butter toast w/bananas, cacao nib crunch, bacon, peppery arugula, and creme fraiche). I also had a chance to sample the "secret" Burger Joint in the hotel, which is hidden in the main restaurant behind a red velvet curtain. I ordered my burger and fries to go because there wasn't an open table at 9PM Friday when I stopped by. The greasy cheeseburger and fries were comparable to Five Guys food but double the price. At least I enjoyed my Oreo milkshake.

The Thompson sits in an ideal spot in Manhattan. It's a quick walk to landmarks like Central Park, Carnegie Hall, Times Square, Broadway, Radio City Musical Hall, Columbus Circle, and the Museum of Modern Art. The subway is only a block and a half from the hotel, but we enjoyed the exercise strolling to our intended destinations. We visited nearby venues, including SpyScape to partake in an interactive spy exhibit, Lincoln Center to watch the musical Camelot, and Medi Wine Bar & Restaurant to enjoy a tasty Prix Fixe dinner in Hell's Kitchen. It is was also an easy walk to the Lincoln Center TKTS booth, which sells significantly discounted tickets to Broadway and Off-Broadway shows and is less crowded than the TKTS in Times Square.

Even though my favorite hotel in NYC still is the Park Hyatt (priced at 40,000 points a night on average), I would easily choose to save the Hyatt points and return to the Thompson because of its convenient location, sleek decor, clean rooms, and delightful breakfast. For me, a large part of my vacation is indulging in the experience of a fine hotel, and this one, for the most part, did not disappoint.

For me, going to New York and staying in Manhattan means finding a good hotel in a good location. And that's what happened on this recent trip I took there. Honestly, I couldn't have hoped for better! After several searches, the Thompson Central Park New York Hotel caught my attention and was the one I chose! Being just steps away from Central Park is simply amazing.

As for the hotel, what a pleasant surprise it was! From the personalized check-in to the room, everything was perfect. Concerning the bedroom, I was particularly surprised by its relatively large area compared to other hotels in Manhattan. The bedroom was fantastic. It had a king bed, very comfortable, a sofa next to the window and from end to end, where you could enjoy the view over the buildings of New York, and a big 49” flat-screen HDTV, among other things. The room also had a mini fridge, a Nespresso coffee machine, an individual safe, and plush robes and slippers. In the bathroom, in addition to the excellent D.S. & Durga bath amenities, it also had a Dyson supersonic hair dryer.

Last but not least, at the reception level on the 3rd floor, the hotel has a lounge where one can rest while having a drink and delighting himself with light dishes (self-service). It's a kind of buffet that changes according to the time of day. In the morning, the dishes look more like breakfast; close to lunchtime, they are more consistent with yummy snacks. In the afternoon, the food is lighter (i.e., cakes), and then, around dinnertime, the snacks are back again. All included!

With such a successful experience, you can imagine where I'll want to stay again the next time I'm back in New York, right? That's right… The Thompson Central Park New York Hotel will be the number 1 choice again!

I’ll start by saying that we stayed in this location years ago when it was the Parker Meridien. I always loved the location and I thought the views were spectacular so I was very excited to come back, especially knowing that it is a now a Thompson Hotel. The lobby has been nicely remodeled and the people at the front desk were great. We had hoped to get an upgrade, as my World of Hyatt app had said we had earned one, but unfortunately, there were no upgrades available. This was not for lack of trying on the front desk’s behalf so I appreciate the effort. The rooms themselves while carefully “curated“ as is the Thompson signature are unfortunately not very practical. My husband came for work and we were given a room that has no desk or workspace and it seems that only the suites have desks. The closet is a very strange design that makes it difficult to hang and remove your clothes, especially when you are more than one person. And there is virtually no drawer space. We called twice for additional hangers and they never came. This is day two of our stay and after leaving our room at 12:30 PM we were returned back at almost 4 PM and still our room had not been cleaned. Housekeeping told me that they would put a rush on it but now I have to go down and sit in the lobby and wait while they finish. Restaurant was fine, although it took them over 25 minutes to bring two salads and when they finally came, my husband’s was overdressed, even though he had asked for dressing on the side. The manager did come over with an apology and took the salad off the bill so we appreciated that. And sadly, that great view I had mentioned earlier… two large buildings have been built since the last time we were here obstructing the park view. There is a premium “upper floors” option so that’s your best bet for a real view. Overall, we haven’t been overly impressed, and it will probably not work out for us in the future as my husband comes primarily for business. Still waiting for housekeeping and hangers!

We stayed for 8 nights here to celebrate our daughter's 4th birthday and it was her first time visiting NY. We chose the hotel mainly for its location close to Central Park. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Major thanks to John and Allie for checking us into a wonderful room, it was perfect for our family. The room was a good size especially for NY standards. Our sofa was able to pull out into another bed. There were couple of steps to figure out how to cast Netflix on the tv from our phones but we got the hang of it pretty quickly. Bathrooms were nice and modern, ours had this beautiful open shower door concept. We had a small fridge and were able to store a small birthday cake to celebrate in the evening. Housekeeping did a great job leaving 2 bottles of water at our door every morning without disturbing us and even organized our daughter's toys nicely every time they cleaned up. The location allowed us to do so many things just by walking. Central Park, Times Square, American Museum of Natural History, Central Park Zoo, the Met. There were subway stops at both ends of the street block, so it was easy to get to and from other parts of town. There's also a pharmacy and grocery store along the street behind the hotel. We were very happy with our stay here, we shared many special memories with our daughter during this trip. Our daughter will remember this hotel as her home away from home in NY. We'd be happy to stay here again in the future.

The newly refurbished Thompson Central Park is a work in progress that will be ready for the spotlight later this Summer.
Service at this property is friendly and professional and staff is very helpful.
The updated rooms and loft suites (the only ones available at this point) are soothing, spacious and modern. Bathrooms are small but functional.
The lobby area is still a construction site, with the upcoming Parker’s restaurant being built behind curtains. Until May, breakfast is room service only after that it will be offered at the new restaurant. The current menu has decent but expensive options.
Great gym underground that will be integrated to the hotel in the future. For now you have to access the elevator to reach the gym by walking outside the hotel. (Dry Bar is the code word for spa and gym - don’t get confused, it’s the gym entrance)
The Burger Joint is still there (hidden behind the lobby) and their food is delicious.
At this property, higher rooms mean suites, with a possibility of a Central Park view, but most rooms have the usual NY views: neighbor buildings.
The hotel will have 587 rooms in total
and 160 suites. So it will have a higher chance of upgrades with so many suites available. This is a great property for using points since the average room rate is $500 total with taxes and “destination fee” and suites go for $750. Time will tell if these rates will make sense - at this moment, they don’t make sense at all, since it’s a long soft open until the property is fully operational.
The old Parker’s roof top pool is gone. The top floors of this Thompson will become residential condominiums.

With the Park Hyatt (located a block away) becoming a Hyatt cat 8 soon (40,000 points/night), the Thompson will be the next best thing for those wanting to stay close to Central Park on an upscale Hyatt property. Although the Thompson doesn’t even get close to Park Hyatt in luxury and amenities.
Another option is the Andaz 5th Ave that is in the same level of this new property (but even cheaper) and both will be cat 6 (25.000 points/night) after March 22, 2022.
I’m sharing pictures of all the rooms available and everything I could capture during my stay.
Thompson Central Park is a welcomed new property in NYC.

This is the remodeled Parker Meridien. The remodel looks great, and the hotel is spotless. The location can’t be beat- you can walk anywhere in Midtown and the subway is literally a 1 minute walk. Great restaurants next store- Quality Italian/Bistro, etc. We had a suite on the 22nd floor, and it was comfortable for a family of four- with one teenager on a hideaway bed and another on a rollaway bed. The concierge was very knowledgeable We will be back.

I was excited to stay here since their social media said that the hotel “reopened” on November 1st. I took this to mean that everything would be brand new - I was mistaken. I had just run the NYC Marathon and unpacked the room when the below discoveries were made, so I was in no mood to alert the front desk and switch rooms.

When I crawled into bed, I noticed a nickel sized hole in the middle of the bed sheet. Right after I noticed that, a spider crawled across the duvet cover.

The TV broadcast in my room continuously glitched by the panes freezing and skipping.

The absolutely tiniest mini fridge I have ever seen. It was as wide as an average slice of pizza. The cabinet that the fridge sat in also seemed unfinished (reference attached photo).

Lastly, one of the women working in the lobby was extremely unpleasant. She delivered an UberEats order to my room one night and practically rolled her eyes when handing me the food. Upon seeing her the next morning, she rudely redirected me to use a service exit because of the construction going on outside of the lobby.

There are much better hotels in the Central Park South area for a similar, or even lesser, cost.

The room itself was nice. In line with a 4 star hotel. What wasn’t 4 star was the mildew smell emanating from the bathroom, wifi down for hours on a work day and the most unpleasant breakfast experience throughout my stay. Many guests walked out without paying after waiting over an hour for food that was lukewarm when served. Manager’s response was to complain to the front desk and maybe I’ll get some points as compensation (which I didn’t have time to do). On a positive note, it has a great location and housekeeping was responsive to requests. The hotel has great potential. Hopefully in the future in can resolve these issues.

My wife and high had a wonderful 2 day stay at the Thompson Central Park and feel we got great value from the 20K Hyatt points per night we spent! We had a studio king suite and loved our room! It was a great size (450 sq ft) and was nicely decorated. We also loved the hotel's location as we were only a 10 minute walk to Times Square and 5 minutes away from Central Park. There were plenty of places to eat near the hotel and I highly recommend you stop by the concierge desk as they will print off a list of some of the best dining options within walking distance. The hotel staff was very friendly and we were treated wonderfully during our stay. We also enjoyed our in room breakfast each morning (the blueberry pancakes were great!). We will definitely consider staying at this hotel the next time we take a quick trip to NYC!

They don't call it "breakfast" if memory serves, but it's a great spread- very filling and plenty of options- juices, coffee, eggs, yogurt, fresh fruit, meats and cheeses, toast, bread, pastries, it was plenty to keep you full until lunch in our experience!

There does not seem to be an email address but you could try the chat box which pops up when you click on either Contact Us or Customer Service at the very very bottom of the Thompson Central Park hotel website. I am not optimistic that you will get what you need that way, but worth a try. We stayed there in June and did not receive any emails other than from no-reply addresses. Upper Stories room very much worth it for the free breakfast and snacks at the third floor lounge. Very pleasant ambience in there.
