Hotel Edison has been a staple of Times Square since its opening in 1931, when Thomas Edison turned on the lights of the hotel himself. The historic hotel is among the first Art Deco hotels in New York City’s Theater District and has become synonymous with celebrity, art, and excitement over the past eight decades. Nestled in the heart of Times Square, Hotel Edison is often celebrated for its lively atmosphere and Art Deco charm, complete with live music and unique experiences like singing waitstaff. Guests have called out the hotel's cleanliness, with many rooms being spotless, though some noted improvement areas. While the central location is a hit for exploring NYC's attractions, it comes with a caveat of noise disturbances. The service and room quality receive varied reviews, ranging from praise for attentive staff to criticisms of slow service and room conditions.

As most travelers know, NYC hotels are very expensive. Even more so when it's Fashion Week and the start of a United Nations General Assembly meeting! Dynamic pricing had our first couple of nights at 2X what the last several were at. But, when averaged together, it was competitively priced. The location of the Edison is outstanding. We went to 3 Broadway shows with all 3 theaters being less than a 10-minute walk! We were two couples who chose the "Two Connecting Rooms" option. The "Family Signature" rooms also were connecting, but only offered one bathroom; we wanted to each have our own. The "Two Connecting Rooms" offered exactly that. By NYC standards, we found these rooms very comfortable (2 queen beds in each room), with a small coat closet, ample drawer space for clothes, and a nice bathroom with an excellent shower that was well stocked with towels and soap, shampoo, conditioner, hair dyer. The beds were very comfortable and the heat/AC until worked great. Elevators were plentiful and we especially appreciated the security at Edison (you have to show your room key to access the elevator area on the main floor and then have to tap your room key in the elevator to get it to operate ... very secure). We found front desk staff/concierge very helpful. The bonus at the Edison is Friedman's and Bond45 Restaurants. We used our 'grab and go' vouchers that enabled us to buy for $6.50 total a choice of about 6 breakfasts including some that offered two eggs, potatoes, toast and coffee/juice) ... a real bargain for a NYC breakfast! We ate dinner at Bond 45 Italian Restaurant 3 out of 5 nights ... VERY good food, pastas, pizzas, deserts ... all in a very nice upscale setting. Bottom line? For two couples or one, you can't beat the Hotel Edison's location, service and amenities. Perfect for our trip to see Broadway shows and the sites of the city.

7 nights in this hotel, Thanks to Hanniel for his warm welcome.
This hotel is very well located, you can actually hear the noise from the street (New York is the city that never sleeps), after a good day of sightseeing, you sleep very well
5 dollars + taxes + tips for a seated breakfast even though they are included in the reservation, it's a bit strange. Otherwise, take away and take to the room
On the day of departure, they keep your suitcases for you while waiting for departure time and it's $1 per suitcase, but it's very practical
Also provide $300 on arrival for tourist taxes, I have just returned to France and it has still not been collected. They normally have to reimburse me $12, We'll see
In conclusion, very well located hotel and rooms cleaned every day, unlimited water and ice cubes upstairs and the maid leaves you 2 small bottles of water every day.
I was on the 19th floor with a view of the Hudson River.
I would happily go back

Incredible Customer Service:
Their staff are extremely professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and competent. We had a few hiccups early in our stay and the staff went above and beyond to address the issue, make us comfortable and see to our needs.

Attractive/Comfortable Lodging:
The hotel was built in 1931, the design is Art Deco inspired, and the hotel accommodations have been expertly refurbished to maintain attractive and comfortable spaces. They have 2 quite enjoyable restaurants on-site and an attached Rum Bar that adds to the retro feel.

Fantastic Location:
Smack in the middle of Theatre District and ½ block from the middle of Times Square. 2-3 blocks to subway and bus stops.

We had a couple small mishaps with our original room (water temp, door lock scanner). The staff addressed it immediately and placed our comfort before business, profits, etc.

Price is certainly comparable given it is located in the middle of the Theatre District in Manhattan!

Me and my husband stayed at hotel Edison in mid December 2024. We had a complaint about the room as it was dirty (noticed splashes on bed and yellow pillowcase - I took photos) and I had fresh bites on my ankles. I complained to reception and to security who assured me this would be looked into. I was offered to switch rooms but the issue had occured on our second last day so I did not wish to change rooms as long as our bedding was changed. I was told our room would be assessed and I would get an email updating me about their findings... It is now the end of January and after sending multiple emails to all of the email addresses associated with this hotel I have still not had a response.
During our stay the staff were helpful, breakfast was good but you had to pay if you wanted to sit in for breakfast, the location was great and the noise outside was loud. I would have given this hotel a good review had it not been for the lack of cleanliness with the room and the annoyance of being ignored by customer services. This hotel is overpriced for the level of cleanliness and the outdated rooms. The pictures on the website do not fully represent the rooms.
I have refrained from writing a bad review until now, but I am very angry about being ignored and it is not good enough.

Offering an excellent value for money, the hotel is an ideal choice for travelers seeking comfort and convenience without compromising on the budget. Its location is extremely advantageous, situated in the heart of the city and providing easy access to the main tourist attractions and business centers. The service received is another highlight, with a staff always ready and willing to help, ensuring a welcoming and efficient experience for all guests.

In addition, the hotel has a vibrant selection of restaurants and bars located on the ground floor, offering a variety of gastronomic options that satisfy both the simplest and most demanding tastes. These establishments are conveniently accessible and provide a pleasant environment for relaxing after a day of tours or meetings. The presence of such facilities on site adds invaluable value to the stay, eliminating the need for long travel for meals and social entertainment. In short, this hotel is the right choice for those looking for a convenient, comfortable and affordable accommodation with all the essential amenities within easy reach.

We stayed here for 7 nights. The rooms are basic but clean, the staff are friendly and helpful. You can't beat the location, right in the heart of Times Square and just minutes from all of the theatres. Great pubs and restaurants all on your doorstep. There is a little shop in the lobby if you've forgotten anything which was very handy, open late too. We were on the Grab & Go room rate, so were given vouchers for Carve, a pizza slice/breakfast cafe which was delicious, just a few mins walk away. Each morning my partner went and collected us a coffee and a croissant or cheese toastie. Pizza slices are heaven, they're included until 2pm. We didn't dine in Friedmans, the other cafe included in grab and go, but always looked busy. The Rum House bar downstairs is so cool, a real jazz bar with a 50s vibe, always busy. Our first night they had it closed to film an episode of Law and Order, amazing!
The lobby staff are nice, always check your room card before letting you pass through making you feel safe. The doormen are lovely, on our checkout one of them flagged us a yellow cab, and from the hotel is a set fare to JFK airport (cheaper than Uber). He also put all of our stuff in the car while we nipped to the shop before heading to the airport.
Can't wait to go back and highly recommend!

I absolutely love the Hotel Edison. I am a New Yorker and frequently send visitors, both friends and business clients, to stay here because know they will be well handled. However, this is the first time I have stayed here in many years! I stayed because I had an event happening in midtown and wanted to be on hand for my clients that were here to attend the event.

From check in to check out our stay at the Edison was terrific. Check in was smooth and efficient. Our rooms were beautiful in the classic art deco style & I was thrilled that my room hand a balcony that looked out over the theater district in Times Square! What a treat!

A few asides- Friedman’s restaurant (in the hotel) is one of my favorite places to meet with friends and colleagues in midtown. For visitors the singing wait staff is really a treat.

Bond 45 serves both a breakfast buffet and a “to go” breakfast that includes a hit breakfast sandwich, juice/ coffee. I recommend taking advantage of that. This is also one of the best restaurants in midtown for pre- theater meals.

For happy hour or post theater drinks- check out the Rum Room- also attached to the hotel- but one of the great theater district bars.

Another amazing work of the hotel- is the managers wine hour which always features some great NYC entertainment! Be sure to take advantage of that!

The level of care and hospitality that we were treated with was incredible. I would particularly like to give a shoutout to Rommel for making sure that every detail was tended to!

This was our second time staying at the Edison and we will definitely be back again. Always a pleasure to stay here in the theater district with easy access to transit and only a couple blocks away from Restaurant Row in Hell's Kitchen, and the room rates are a super reasonable value for the quality of the stay and the convenience of the location. The hotel is comfortable and well appointed with a lot of personality, stylish Art Deco interiors, and skilled, competent staff with calm and cheerful attitudes. Staying in a unique and hospitable hotel like the Edison makes our NYC trips feel extra special. When we stay here we always feel like welcomed *guests* of the hotel and its restaurants, not just customers.

We booked direct and this was good value and a great location. Just off Broadway at Time Square. We were allocated a room next to the lifts which had clanking noises but reception were able to move us to a different room on the main frontage. The concierge kept our bags securely stored after we checked out. Only $1 a bag. The doorman got a taxi for us and loaded the suitcases. Very clean room. Great WiFi throughout the hotel. The Friedman’s restaurant was great - gluten free was excellent and very aware of cross contamination. Great stay.

Good afternoon,

I am writing to express my disappointment in my stay at your hotel. We came for Christmas and New Year from the 22nd of December 2024 to January 2nd 2025. Firstly, i would like to say a massive thank you to our cleaner Kwancheewa, she went above and beyond for us by cleaning our room, she gave us bottles of water to go out with if we passed on our way out, she was so friendly to us and our daughter and she really made the stay enjoyable with her kindness and hard work. Following, upon arrival at around 7pm we checked in at the self check in/out machines, then on the way up to the room I requested a cot/ crib put into our room. Around an hour after nothing had been brought up so I tried ringing multiple times to no answer. I then made my way downstairs to reception and again asked that we please have a cot, more time passed and at this point I was getting annoyed as we had been travelling for 24 hours and not slept and still didn’t have a cot brought up. I made my way down to reception again and asked (I repeated this cycle 2 more times), we finally received a cot at around 10:30pm. The next morning we went out and tried to pay for the hop on/off bus and the card was declined, checked our bank and we had been charged twice for our room, leaving us short of money for 2 days on our holiday! This was beyond and we were very irritated. Following this our safe broke in the room, every single day we went out i notified a member of staff that our safe had broke making it impossible for us to store our valuables safe when we went out. Only 20 minutes before we were due to check out on the 2nd of January did someone come to fix it!! As you're aware on NYE they shut off a majority of the blocks, we had to fight to get back into the hotel as we weren’t given wrist bands or anything to make it known we were hotel residents but we saw other guests who had these and got back into the hotel with ease, having our 1 year old daughter with us made this extremely frustrating and angered us even more about our current experience. These events were all extremely stressful and affected our stay and holiday. We decided to Dine in Friedman's one afternoon and we didn’t have anything off the hotel to get a discount in the restaurant. We were told as hotel guests we were supposed to have a discount for it but yet again we were missed out. We checked our booking information and it appeared we were put into the wrong room too. Our booking was supposed to have a desk and chair, tea/coffee maker and we had none of these in our room.
I hope you read this and take in our complaints and for the price we paid, please improve so if we do visit again it’ll be a lot more of a pleasant visit.
