The Renwick hotel is appreciated by guests for its prime location near Grand Central, allowing for easy exploration of Manhattan. The property's unique and artistic atmosphere is praised, as is the overall cleanliness, though opinions on value and room quality for the price vary. While the spacious and stylish rooms with comfortable beds are well-received, there are mentions of limited amenities and the need for better maintenance. Service at The Renwick is largely commended for being friendly and efficient, though it's not without its occasional lapses.

My primary criteria in selecting a hotel for our weekend trip to New York were clean, comfortable, and an upscale feel without breaking the bank. The Renwick fit al these criteria! I was very pleased by the cleanliness of our room, and the bathroom, while a bit small, felt ritzy enough due to the tiled shower and glass doors. The hotel is also conveniently located relative to Grand Central for ease of travel (assuming the MTA isn’t doing something crazy with the lines).

There is a $35 urban destination fee that the hotel charges per night that is meant for you to take advantage of premium Wi-Fi, dry cleaning, and $35 worth of credit at the hotel’s restaurant for food and drink. I can’t speak to the quality of the food as we used the credit toward drinks. While I would have preferred not to pay the fee to save money, it appears to be the trend for hotels in New York right now, so if that is a deal-breaker you may want to look elsewhere.

I was shocked to read some negative reviews after we found the hotel pretty decent but we can only speak from what we found. Firstly the staff were a credit to the hotel, all of them were friendly, helpful and always spoke to us when we left or returned to the hotel. Room wise, we had 2 on the 15th floor, the rooms were very tidy with a very quirky feel to them. The rooms also had TV, fridges iron/ironing boards in them, the bathrooms & showers were clean & tidy as well. We had a balcony on one of the rooms with a couple of outside seats & it was nice to be able to sit out on the morning whilst waiting for the others get ready or when we got back in. The only downside to the hotel I found was the total lack of any food/drink available, they do offer vouchers for the coffee shop next door but we didn’t use them as we were usually up and out early exploring. They did give out free bottles of water at reception but there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms either. Housekeeping was good & rooms were made up every day, clean towels put in and bottled water replenished as well.
We thought the hotel was in a good location having previously stayed on Lexington Avenue it’s out of the constant hustle and bustle but not too far out. It’s only a 5 minute walk to Grand Central Station, which we only used on one days as we mostly walked everywhere anyways. Would we stay here again? We most certainly would !
Also some people have mentioned the room tax thing - We have been charged it every time we have stayed in Manhattan & we thought it was mandatory?? Maybe worth looking into if it is not.

I’ve been staying here on and off monthly for over 6 months since it’s a preferred hotel for my company and I travel into the city monthly for work. This last day was by far the worst. Even though I’m a silver honors member, I did not get water in my room any day during my 4 night stay. Moreover, you get charged a $35 urban fee that’s supposed to include 1 piece of laundry service per day yet housekeeping never left laundry bags and forms even after repeatedly having to go to reception to ask for them and being told they would remind housekeeping they had to leave them.

Then the worst part part was checking out on Thursday and having left one of my dainty wedding bands in the room as I left in a hurry. I’ve called over 12 times and even left messages for housekeeping, lost and found, security and someone by the name of Brian who is in operations and not even the common courtesy of receiving a callback. So that just added to the horrible feeling of losing an item of such sentimental value.

I’m supposed to be back in a month but will be switching to another property in our company preferred list as this one obviously doesn’t care about its guests. I hope whoever cashed in on my ring can sleep well at night knowing that they took something from someone symbolic of over 15 years of marriage.

Also reported to Hilton corporate and my company to avoid having other people from our company endure the same lack of respect and customer service.

We had a lovely 5 nights in NY. We paid a really reasonable price for a king gallery suite. The room was large but we were on 4th floor so had a terrible view overlooking about 8 generators which were really loud. We were out and about all day and shattered when we got into bed so this didn’t really impact us too much and we didn’t ask to be moved. There is very little storage space and a tiny little rail behind the mirror to hang anything up.
The bathroom was absolutely tiny but the shower was lovely and it was all clean.
No tea or coffee making facilities but you can get these for free next door by collecting a voucher at reception each day.
It is a great location right near Grand Central station.
Be aware that they will charge your card $250 on check in for a ‘facility fee’ and won’t release it until check out. I believe this is common in NY but there was mention of it when we checked in which I think is poor.
We had a great time here and until I arrived home I would have had no hesitation in recommending this hotel or returning myself on future trips.

However, when I arrived home I discovered that I had left my jacket in the room, hung up behind the mirror. This was entirely my fault and no blame to the hotel for me leaving it behind. I had to send multiple messages to the hotel for them to confirm days later that they apparently hadn’t found anything in the room. That either means that the housekeeping staff took my jacket or they didn’t clear the room properly and the next guest took it. Either way, they are denying any knowledge.
So if you decide to stay here, just make sure you don’t leave anything behind by mistake as you’ve got no chance of ever getting it back!
Really spoiled my experience of the hotel and would not return or recommend.

NYC is hard to find a "great" hotel, and Renwick comes with detractions just as most others in NYC. The smell in rooms not facing the street were very strong from restaurants nearby (one room was strong curry smell, one was noticeable deep fryer smell). Request a room facing the street or very high floor.

The rooms are nice and updated, but clearly with bad "bones". Can hear everything happening in bathroom next door in terms of water turning on/off, etc.

Overall, it's a great location near Grand Central and nice room (not cookie cutter feeling). However, your experience can vary dramatically based on the room you get/where it faces. There are very few non-luxury hotels in NYC that don't have detractors though.

We appreciate the feedback, Matthew. While we're happy you appreciated our location and modern facilities, it's unfortunate our rooms' sound-proofing didn't meet your expectations. We regret your challenges and inconvenience so we'll address your concerns with our team moving forward. We do hope you give us another opportunity to share a more positive experience with you soon.

Nice small hotel in midtown. But...they impose a mandatory $35/night destination fee ... and yes, they say it includes a credit/night. But a $35/night surcharge! Let’s face it. That’s a rip-off. An urban destination fee? It’s a hotel with nothing more to it.

Very impressed with The Renwick Hotel. We wanted somewhere that was close to Grand Central, had a bit of character and wasn’t too big, and this fit the bill to a T. We booked a King Galley room which was a good size for Manhattan. It was really clean, there was a fridge but no tea/coffee, the bathroom was spacious and looked like it had been recently renovated, and the water pressure in the shower was good. We were on a high floor and found the hotel to be quiet. We had breakfast in Bedford & Co. one morning, mostly because the ‘urban tax’ you have to pay gives you a $35 credit in the restaurant, and I thought the food was decent.

Sadly when we arrived we were given a room that had other peoples cases and belongings in it, we were given another room that simply wasn’t acceptable.. This hotel states a 4* rating, charging $300+ a night, I would not pay $30 dollars a night, I have stayed in better truck stop rooms. I personally will never book this hotel again and my advice to anyone reading this is to do you homework on this property
The hotel was not clean and the rooms where you spend time were filthy especially around the window and door frames, there was mild in the bathroom - needless to say, we left and didn’t stay in The Renwick

Came to NYC to celebrate my mothers 80th. I usually stay in this area when I come to NYC but needed two rooms that had space for 5 guests! The suites at the Renwick were clean and comfortable! Staff polite and inviting! Quiet location but convenient to many tourist spots without being in the middle of chaos! Restaurant was not open yet- under renovation but they provided free coffee cards to use at next door shop. No shortage of other spots right outside your door so not a big deal! Only thought was would feel a little more secure if only key access was allowed for elevators - this limiting non guests to be on the guest floors.

They called it a destination fee. Most hotels in New York don't have this. Its approx £35 per night, plus a non sterling fee. Which can add up to quite a bit of money, if you're there for a week or more. They didn't tell us about this, until I saw it out of my bank account.
