Check in was very smooth and all the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. We actually arrived around 11:00 AM and were allowed to go immediately to our room since it was ready. Our room was very clean and the bathroom is equipped with a hair dryer, neutrogena soaps and shampoos, etc. The room was a bit Duffy and while the air conditioning worked, it never seemed to quite ‘take the edge off’ and would only go down so low. If it had been in the middle of a true summer heat wave, I think the room would have been uncomfortable to stay in....this would be my only negative comment.
The hotel itself is undergoing a pretty big renovation of its restaurant/bar/terrace area so these are inaccessible at the moment and looks as if it will be very nice when finished.
For the cost, I would definitely stay at Soho 54 again. The location is great, staff are pleasant, and rooms are large and clean!
We were not aware of that in advance and simply booked this place because of its location, just between SoHo and Tribeca, good score and exceptional price (although in February). Being there, we notified some shortcomings, yet overall impression is highly positive. We got even more than expected and fully enjoyed this comfortable, affordable and decent stay + unique opportunity to observe New York's skyline. Additionally, if you also appreciate contemporary architecture, you may visually explore adjacent Renzo Piano's condo building which is literally just a few meters away!
The room was truly spacious, especially for the NY standards, and although they don't have a kitchen neither breakfast offer, you may find complimentary hot and cold drinks, with magnificent hot apple cider which we enjoyed each morning. Highly recommendable and be back for sure if we drop by to that side!
The hotel room is fine but the carpet was so incredibly sticky that you could not walk around barefoot. Hairs and make up stains on the bedsheets, really loud AC noise, and things in the room just out of place - the nightstands and chairs were all at strange angles as if someone had bumped into them and not bothered to put them back, not a big deal but added to the overall feel of carelessness in cleaning the rooms between guests.
The only redeeming factor was the shower which had great pressure but it didn't drain and a massive hair clot started floating in the water while we were showering - so disgusting. Would not stay here again, more worth it to splurge a little and be more comfortable.
The last thing is that clearly the city does not keep this hotel in high regard because every day the entire streets' trash bags are piled up in front of the hotel. In the summer when its 90+ degrees, the smell from this is unbearable.
The room was tired and scabby. Carpet is old worn and gross and all the fixings are coming off the walls. The wallpaper is mouldy and peeling, the shower mouldy and needs to be re caulked. The entire decor and furniture is from the 90s.
There is also no bar / restaurant like they advertise and the “rooftop” is just that a rooftop with aircon units and some wicker chairs from the 70s.
Only thing that saved us was the view. It was magic. Staff were pleasant but nothing special. We also had smokers on our floor a few nights during our stay and nothing was done. Not good for asthmatics.
I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. Disappointing when you’ve traveled from the other side of the world to visit New York.
The WiFi was horrible, barely worked and when it did it was slow and kept disconnecting. The room seen better days and could use a makeover. Some of the staff members were rude and unhelpful. We had a problem with our aircon and the answer we got was "our air conditioners are noisy" (later they sent someone who fixed it to be perfectly silent).
"When booking, you can choose views. SoHo faces north and has a beautiful view of Empire State Bldg. TriBeCa looks south to Freedom tower"Read full review

"The low price means lots of young guests, so it is noisy. Get one of the three rooms on the top floor."Read full review
