The San Carlos Hotel emerges as a comfortable oasis with its well-maintained and spacious rooms that, despite a lack of modern flair, still win over guests. The central location is a hit, placing visitors within easy reach of must-see landmarks and convenient transport options. While some guests have raised eyebrows at extra fees and wished for better soundproofing, the overall value is celebrated, especially considering the useful kitchenette-equipped rooms. Stellar service is the cherry on top, with a staff that's consistently recognized for their warmth and efficiency.

Excellent stay! Very convenient location. Easy to access subways, walking or taxi. Quiet stay with extremely helpful staff. Safe area and quite affordable! Would return to this hotel without a doubt should I get a chance to return to NYC for a 3rd time :)

I stayed here during the COVID 19 scare, needing a few days outside of my own apartment for my mental health and a change of location. The staff were very courteous and upgraded me to a suite, free of charge. The beds were soft and clean, and despite being in the middle of midtown there is great soundproofing and my stay felt serene. Enjoyed the full bath and bathrobe. Didn't take advantage of the room service but they are affilitated/attached to an Indochinese restaurant that I know to be very good. Will definitely recommend to my family and friends that they stay here--whenever they are allowed to visit again!

The hotel is located in a very nice location, the price was reasonable compared to other hotels in the area (we rented a suite because we are a family of 5, and that suite came with a 2-bed bedroom and a living room with a pull-out couch). The staff was very friendly, especially the cleaning staff.

The main drawback was the condition of the room, in particular we had windows that were in such poor state that we had to barricade them with pillows and towels to prevent the wind from oozing through (this was in february, so the wind was very cold).

Also, the “resort fee” was quite expensive at 32 USD per night, for free wifi and access to a gym that was honestly just a few weights, a few cardio machines and a single multi-cable station.

I might choose this hotel if i I come to Manhattan again, but not in the very cold or very hot months.

We are disappointed that we did not meet your expectations. We want every guest to have an exceptional stay with us. I am not aware if you mentioned your concerns to the front desk, as we would have made every attempt to move your family to another suite, so we could address the issues. We are happy to hear that your experiences with our staff were very friendly during your stay. Courteous service and hospitality are very important to us. It would be great if you would give us a second chance to prove that to you, and I assure you that your next stay will be exceptional. Hope to see you during your future visit to NYC! Janet M. The lobby is nothing special, and the hotel does not look special from the outside, but the rooms are very spacious and the staff here is great. The workout room is small but has windows, so it's far less claustrophobic than other workout rooms at comparable hotels. Our family of 4 stayed quite comfortably in a suite with two queen beds and a small kitchenette for a very reasonable price. The location is convenient to 5th Avenue shopping and the theaters and is right around the corner from Essa Bagel. If you book directly on the hotel's website, you can sign up for substantial discounts. We would stay here again.

The kitchenette with minifridge, microwave, dishes, silverware, glasses, and a can and bottle opener made it possible to prepare breakfast and dinner in our room. Each day, the housekeeping staff replaced our dirty dishes with clean dishes. The iron, ironing board, pants press, and 2 white robes were a nice touch, as was lending out umbrellas on a rainy day.

For our family of 5, it was so nice to have 2 rooms and 2 TVs within our suite. It was well worth it to pay the extra daily fee for a roll-away bed so that, between the second bed, sofa sleeper, and roll-away bed, each of our 3 teenagers could have their own bed. It was great to have 2 closets to store our luggage in. Also, we appreciated the fitness center and the business center, both for their usefulness and also to have someplace to go when someone wanted a little break from 24-7 family time. The vending machine in the business center was handy.

The staff was very friendly and eager to help. This hotel is clean.

Great location in Manhattan. Just go 1.5 blocks to the subway station on 51st St, take it downtown to Grand Central Station (42nd St), and transfer anywhere. Take subway 4, 5, or 6 Uptown to return to 51st St station. The multiple Duane Read stores nearby were convenient for essential groceries.

We would have preferred that the bathroom had a fan.

We visited San Carlos as a family of 4 and booked a twin room and king room. With 2 tall teenagers it was perfect for them to have great sized beds in the twin and a great sized room. We emailed ahead and the hotel were helpful to give us rooms beside each other. On arrival, friendly staff, efficient and check in was very relaxed. Having visited much busier hotels in NY this made a big change. Rooms were spotless and everything we needed. The kitchenette was clean, well stocked and made a huge difference to our trip as we were able to stock
up on cold drinks, fruit, and snacks. Coffee and tea, heating facilities were also great for the morning breakfasts.

Each day, we returned to a spotlessly clean room and toiletries and tea coffee restocked. It was a safe quiet hotel and we felt very comfortable. We had one issue on a new arrival to the room next door who was noisy and the hotel staff dealt with it effectively and discreetly contacted the room to rectify this.

Location was perfect! Quiet enough to be out of traffic noise but 15-20 mins walk to Broadway, Bloomingdale’s. 10 mins Grand Central Station, subway close by and perfect to get to anywhere. Never had to queue for elevators either which has been a huge problem in NY stays before. My 19 yr old was confident enough to walk in and out of areas around to explore shops she wanted to see. Ess a Bagel around the corner highly recommended for breakfast!!

Lobby staff were second to non. Providing maps, advice about take out food, travel arrangements and organising taxis etc. Generally very friendly to the whole family. if you are looking for a hotel with restaurant, nightlife, view etc then this is not for you but if wanting comfort, cleanliness, friendly and great location then I would highly recommend it.

We had a good experience last time so this was one of the first places that I looked for another trip. It has a winning combination: above-average sized room, below-average room rate, and quiet midtown location.

Staff is friendly and helpful. Quron at the front desk deserves props - I spoke to him before coming because I was expecting a package and he said he'd make sure it was ready when I arrived. On the departure day, I left my luggage with the bellman; when I was hustling back to get the bags on the way to catching my train, I called the front desk and Quron made sure the bags were ready to go so that my Uber driver pulled up and the bags were in the trunk in less than 60 seconds.

Unless you have to be in a particular neighborhood, this is the place to stay for a great NY experience.

Just got back from a girlfriend's 5 day city trip to New York.
We had a twin room which was very spacious and comfortable for 2 people. We were on the 2nd floor and had a really bad view of the next bulding which made our room very dark, no sunlight got in at all. We did not really mind so much as we were out and about most of the time and only came to the room to sleep.
The location is perfect, in a relatively quiet street but still only a 15 min walk away from Times square. Accross the street is a diner were you can have a decent breakfast at a reasonable price.
What impressed us most about this place was the kindness and helpfullness of the staff. They were alway ready for any request with a smile and really made us feel very welcome guests.
I will definitely come back to this hotel if ever I have the opportunity to visit NY again.
