Guests at the DoubleTree by Hilton New York Midtown Fifth Ave have mixed feelings about their stays. While many appreciate its prime location near NYC's top attractions, the hotel's value is questioned due to unexpected charges and costly amenities. The atmosphere is described as lively and modern, but the experience can be dulled by noise and cramped spaces. Service quality varies, with accolades for friendly staff contrasting reports of inefficiency. Room cleanliness is generally good, though some visitors raise concerns about maintenance and size.

The room is much smaller for a standard queen size than many hotels I've been to. Reviewers did mention that. It's perfectly fine for a smaller room when you're mostly there for sleep after a long day of sightseeing. The not good part is this hotel needs a lot of attention and basic maintenance. Bathroom wasn't flushing the first day of arrival, room's heating was very loud, and thermostat wasn't working as it should. You can't tell if it's providing heat or just a "fan." Plugs and outlets didn't all work, only one work. Coffee maker needs cleaning first day arriving. The only best thing is the cleaners and the technician who came at any time to fix anything upon request. The cleaners did a great job cleaning our room with daily. So kudos to the cleaning staff. Pictures shown by hotel aren't completely accurate.

Guy at reception did not greet us, smile or be in anyway welcoming. Obviously doesn't like his job. Room was tiny. Noisy plumbing and air conditioning. Bed was made with a bottom sheet too small. It could not be tucked in on the bottom and top of bed at the same time. We arrived from Europe so it was 3am body time and we wanted to go to bed. I asked for an extra pillow, but the guy could not make the effort to have another one sent up in less than a half hour. On second day, room was cleaned at 4pm despite our asking at 12pm to have it made up. Cleaning staff (who didn't speak a word of English) did not replace the used coffee cups or clean the room properly. No breakfast restaurant. Depressing, poorly maintained hotel.

I was upgraded to a "premium" queen room which had a separate seating area with its own TV. So it was fairly spacious for a NY hotel room. The room was nice for the price for NY no complaints. I was at the back of the hotel which was quiet. The WiFi was barely usable. Ok for browsing web but not much more and even then not very good at that a few times. A party in front of me at checkout was complaining how they couldn't work because of poor WiFi. The front desk response was well it is free so you cannot expect much, Not a great response. Since I was on a personal vacation the WiFi wasn't a big deal for me. Still docking it a star for the poor WiFi.

We were one of the lucky few to have hot water the whole weekend. The majority of the people in town for the wedding we were attending did not have water the whole weekend. The front desk did not care one bit and continued to give people rooms without hot water and no warning. The front desk phone is silenced or unplugged. People were standing at the front desk on the phone with Corporate who were trying to call the location and the front desk staff, Deborah, would fake answering the phone despite it never ringing and corporate saying no one is answering. The bathrooms were run down and not very clean. They will not check in anyone until after 3pm as if the rooms are unavailable before then and then all of a sudden they're all magically and simultaneously cleaned and turned-over in the span of the clock turning from 2:59pm to 3:00pm. This causes a huge line of people trying to check in at the front desk. Parking in the discounted lot is also a joke during the holiday season because the hotel's street (West 51st) is closed due to the holiday crowds on 5th Ave. Avoid this place if you can.

Worst experience possible. We wonder if the Radisson chain has no respect for its name or if the lack of respect also encompasses its customer. We believe that disrespect is with both. The 5th Avenue hotel in NY should be closed and only resume when it is renovated. the reception in addition to being completely unprepared has night staff incapable of serving the customer, not fully trained to represent the Radisson name. the shower room with curtain which is a shame.
The internet does not work in the rooms. Which becomes a joke in the face of the quality of the American internet. There is neither signal quality nor stability so those who need to work can forget about it.
When we ask for ice initially they say there is none and when they brought it they sent us with a container like a trash can without a protective plastic. The requested dish comes from paper there are no forks and knives.
We sent an email to Radisson complaining about the disappointment on the first day, requesting a change to another Hotel. Well the email was answered 6 days after offering to return the rest but not saying how much is only 6 DAYS after our request. And finally, to finish, we found a customer at the reception reporting that the carpet in the room was flooded and asking for it to be fixed and he was told that there was a leak and that's all and that there was no other room available. It even looks like a joke. When we did the reservation they did not tell us the terrace was closed. We choose the hotel because we want to enjoy the terrace but…
We Recommend not to stay at the Radisson on 5th avenue very disappointing from start to finish. I have stayed at Radisson in London near British Museum and I’ve liked it. That’s why I’ve chosen stayed in NY.

I come to NYC quite a bit, and of all hotel stays I've had so far this was the most frustrating. The customer service is extremely disappointing. I'm not sure if I dealt with the same person twice or spoke to one person on the phone before I arrived and a different in person, but both were very snarky, short, and obviously disinterested in talking to me. I called ahead before coming to new York to confirm my reservation and make sure there wouldn't be any complications and was told that a package that I had delivered to the hotel containing my friend's birthday present wasn't there! I obviously panicked and had to rush to have a replacement sent to my home in Seattle to give to my friend late, only to learn when I checked in that the original package had been there for 3 days before I even called! They didn't even bother to check when I called!

The room was freezing, no matter what temp I set the thermostat to. There was mascara on one of the pillows when I arrived. I asked housekeeping for an additional pillow that never arrived. The walls are so paper thin I could hear EVERY. SINGLE. WORD. and every intimate moment of the people next door.

And despite having called ahead of time to make sure there would be no complications with my stay since I had to book an additional night and arrive a day early, I still had housekeeping pounding on my door telling me that I needed to leave because my reservation was "over", when I was supposed to have another 3 nights. I then had to drag my jetlagged and exhausted self out of the room to talk with the rude girl at the desk where I was told that I had to pay another deposit and do the check in process again - something that could/should have been relayed to me when I called ahead or when I checked in.

I've stayed in lower quality hotels with much better service that are more worth it.

Couldn’t be in a better location but rooms leave much to be desired and guest services is terrible. TV barely worked, lots of connection issues, aircon was on the wall directly aligned with the bed so it blew air directly into our faces all night, and room situated oddly and uncomfortably. However most of that could have been overlooked had guest services actually tried to take care of any requests or knew their job was to support their guests! We made 4 relatively simple requests in the 4 nights we were there and each time it was as if we were inconveniencing the staff and their knee jerk reaction was to immediately says no to requests (that they can attend to) without checking into them. A few examples: 1) were told by one staff we could get ice but when called downstairs told by another don’t have ice and and can’t get any (untrue upon pressing) ,2) called 3 times to get 2 extra pillows and a blanket and after nearly 2 hours finally got 1 pillow. Called again and got blanket with other pillow but staff asked if we really needed a pillowcase when we noted the second pillow didn’t have one, 3) called to say we couldn’t watch Tv because it was fuzzy in most channels and was going in and out. Told it was the connection and there was nothing they could do about it. It remained this way for the entirety of our stay, 4) on day 3 of my stay I asked if someone could come clean my room and was told by front desk - “I don’t think so”. I had to inform this it wasn’t actually a request forcefully. They said they would look into it but in the end I literally had to pull a housekeeper in from the hall that was cleaning elsewhere to come do it.

All in all I have stayed in better 2 star hotels but the location is killer. If you don’t mind a crappy room and service at $300+ / night to be near Rockefeller plaza and radio city etc then go for it otherwise I would say keep looking.

If your looking for a hotel just 3 minutes from Times Square and opposite Radio City Music Hall this ticks all the boxes.
Ok the hotel is in the process of being refurbished but we had a room on the fourth floor and it was a surprisingly large room, clean and very comfortable.
The staff were amazingly helpful when our flight was cancelled by 24 hours and although the hotel was full with no remaining rooms they allowed us to stay in our room for an extra night.
It's always a compromise with a hotel, but if you want one of the best locations within a few minutes of Times Square you won't get one better
Ok it's a Radisson property but don't expect luxury, its basic, no bar or restaurant but you honestly get a good room for what you pay.

If you are looking for functional in a great location, this hotel is fine...barely.

If you care about the temperature in your room (phony thermostats and excessively hot but thank goodness the window cracked open), actually having a duvet or blanket, access to a minibar or fridge, coffee/breakfast, a functional lobby that seats more than 3 people, clean carpets, blow driers with any power, and quiet rooms free from all-night plumbing noises, this is not the hotel for you. I don't even mind that the room was tiny/dorm sized. Still, I won't be back.

Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us. We are delighted to hear that you were pleased with the location and pillows. On the other hand, we are saddened to know that your experience was anything less than satisfying due to the condition of the room and the concern you had with the duvet at that time. As we pride ourselves on delivering a memorable hotel experience, we are sorry that we failed to meet your expectations. We hope that you will reconsider and give us another chance to provide you an experience that is truly excellent in all aspects.

Hotel is located across from Radio City Music Hall. Checkin was quick but reception area was very small. Room was spacious but I wish there had been more than 2 pillows on the bed. As for the bathroom, there was just one very small bar of soap which I guess was for both showering and washing hands. Also, I had 2 bath and hand towels but just one wash cloth. As a Radisson Rewards member I was supposed to receive two bottles of water but there was none in my room. Overall, though, I would stay here again if I could get a good rate as I did for this stay as the location is perfect. The subway to either airport was just a couple blocks away (transfer to bus for LGA and AirTrain for JFK).
