We stayed here for 6 nights , it is overall a decent place to stay however with some tweaks it could be great . The location for us was good , only 10 minutes to union square, not far from the flat iron building and 25 minutes to the empire state building . Metro and bus stations are also close by . The communal kitchen is an added bonus and open all day which means you can make dinner and help yourself to the facilities in there which was really useful . There is access to a PC and lots of games in a separate communal area away from the kitchen . Breakfast was fine for us , Dunkin’ doughnuts each day, fruit, cereal and options of coffee and tea . The room itself was basic and quite small . The TV had a range of channels but some did not tune correctly and were constantly getting scrambled .The air conditioner was extremely noisy and did keep me up most nights ,I think a real investment in getting up to date and less noisy air conditioners would be useful . The beds were fine however the pillows were hard which made sleeping on them difficult . The bathroom on the 3rd floor was perfect for us however a suggestion would be for the showers to be cleaned more regularly . These are of course tiny gripes for what was overall a good stay and we would visit again.

The value for money is exceptional. Very well located, several metro lines within 5/10 minutes on foot. The breakfast is perfect (fresh fruit, different breads, donuts, coffee, chocolate, butter, jams, fresh cheese, cottage cheese...) The kitchen remains open 24 hours a day as well as the small living room. Very clean room and sufficient to sleep in. Comfortable bedding. Air conditioning/heating ok. There are quite a few common toilets and they are always clean. Quiet hostel, respectful people. Overlooks a fairly quiet street for New York. Not to mention the great welcome
I recommend 100%

Love it, love it, love it. Surpassed our expectations. Very clean. Staff were spot on. The breakfast was as advertised and more, croissants, bagels, fruit, cake, and all leftovers accessible throughout the day. Showers were roomy and always comfortable and clean. We had a private bunk room, dinky but totally adequate. Air con was excellent and a blessing. Central and easily accessible to all of Manhattan, particularly Lower East Side. Great neighborhood deli/grill/convenience stores and some local bars. LOVED IT.

I was on my own for lodging for one night in NYC, and wanted someplace convenient to visiting family/friends who live in the 20s, good places to eat, and public transportation. This place fit the bill all around, and was affordable (for NYC!), clean, and friendly. There was quite a bit of street noise in my room, but that's the case almost anywhere - a pair of earplugs solved that problem. The other guests were very considerate, and it was nice chatting with folks at breakfast. I was very pleased with my stay.

The American Dream Hostel is a very nice and enjoyable hostel. It's in a safe and great location, which is close to a lot of the New York sights and only a short walk to the nearest subway station. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, however you could hear a lot of the New York traffic, so it may be an issue if you are a light sleeper. The breakfast was very good (must try the waffles). The staff are very nice and are helpful if you need any information about the hostel and the city. Overall, I was very impressed with my stay. I will definitely be staying here again when I return to New York.

The place is in a good part of New York which makes walking to tourist sights easy and very fast. I think the room was cheap for New York and I could see why it was very simple and basic but I thought it was clean and tidy so no complaints. It was not a hostel however it was more bed and breakfast so I did not meet any other travellers there.

Don't expect the ritz and you shouldn't be disappointed. We atayed for 4 nights in June 2023. The staff are friendly, the breakfast is self service and the kitchen is open 27/7. The room was a little small and the carpets could do with renewing but overall, we were happy with our stay here. Close to public transport and walkable to lots of New York attractions.

I was here back in 2019 and it was really an awesome place to stay, so we decided to go back with one friend this time in 2021 and it was even better. The place is super cool and has the best possible location in NY with a great price. Amdre (the host) was so kind, polite and helpful. The rooms are great, and the very best part is the breakfast and coffee you can take :D! We also met a girl called Courtney that was helping Amdre to make some new changes to this place. We will for sure go back to this place every time we visit New York. If you get to read this, we miss you Amdre and Courtney, the guys from Argentina!

We booked this because on the worldwide hostels website it had good ratings for cleanliness, location, security etc. The place was extremely shabby, needed very thorough redecoration and there was an all-pervading horrible smell! We were prepared to share a bathroom and knew what we would be letting ourselves in for, but it was much worse than we were led to believe by the website. Only one of the shared bathrooms had a decent shower; all of the toilets were fairly unpleasant and the large hole in the wall between the shower and toilet on one floor meant that you could hear people going to the toilet right next to you - very unpleasant indeed! The room was clean when we arrived but the bin was not emptied for our entire stay, nor was the sink in the room cleaned. If you consider that, for only $20 or so more a night (and admittedly with a bit of luck) you can find a proper hotel with en suite, it's really not worth booking this thinking that it's the cheap option, because that's all it was - cheap! My advice - avoid at all costs!

Yes, this place is very safe for female; there is always a manager at the reception desk; there are many drug stores and restaurants around open 24 hrs a day
There are more places to choose from in the New York City area.
