We were in town for 2 and half days with our kids and needed to have a good location in Manhattan to optimize our travel across the city. This Hotel by Marriott is perfectly located literally just above the tube station Herald Sq and allows you to go pretty much everywhere in Manhattan and is walking distance to various classic tourists places such as 5th At or Times Sq. The hotel offer minimal service (one lobby with a breakfast bistro, food average and pricy though) and rooms are ok for are short stay

I stayed here for 5 nights at the start of November. After reading previous reviews I was a little bit worried but we didn’t need to be! The reception is small but the staff are very friendly and check in was quick. Unlike other hotels in New York there are no extra fees to pay when you arrive or deposits. We were on the 14th floor with a great view of the city. The rooms were spacious and came equipped with a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, coffee maker, and plenty of storage. There is no daily cleaning service for the room but you are able to ask reception the day before if you wish for your room to be cleaned, or for fresh towels. The hotel also has a roof bar that does not require a reservation.
The location was great, it is opposite Macy’s, and only a short walk of about ten minutes to Times Square, Empire State etc. There is a subway station outside the hotel which is handy and the larger penn station for airport travel is only a ten minute walk.

The hotel is centrally located few blocks away from Times square. Easily accessible by the subway, one of the exits are right next to the hotel's entrance. Our room was spacious and clean with a good view of Herald Square, it also had a mini fridge and a coffee maker.
I liked that late at night, the hotel door closes and can be unlocked with the room key only so it gave us the sense of security.
There is also a room on the 4th floor where you can use the microwave to heat food or boil water for a hot drink. Did not try the gym but I checked it out and was just right for someone on a vacation and not wanting to miss basic workouts.
The gym had a drinking water dispenser that we used to fill our water bottles.
They do not charge facility fee is an added value to the hotel.
Definitely, will stay again!

If you value actually getting sleep, do not stay here. There is a nightclub on the top floor, which can be heard all throughout the hotel. And not just the bass, I was basically playing “name that lyric” at 11 PM while I was trying to get to sleep. The hotel was absolutely useless in helping us out. A guy (I won’t use the term gentleman because he was anything but) named John would not give us a lower room, despite originally saying he would, because the street noise would be just as loud. Which, shouldn’t we at least see if that is the case instead of dismissing us? He then, on our third trip down to complain, asked us immediately “so would you like to check out”, with a smirk on his face. I don’t think John has received the memo that he works in the hospitality industry. John also said he would refund our money, and he has not. Thank goodness we found a fabulous hotel across the street who actually takes care of their clients.

DON’T STAY HERE. No one came to clean the room, the shower was like warm instead of hot, and the manager was unresponsive about the cable being out. The location is ok if you want to be in a touristy area, but there are much better, affordable options.

The hotel is very well located, 1 minute away is access to the subway and 2 blocks from the penn station that connects with the airport, so it is easy to get there, the people of reception is very good and they take care of the bags before check in. The room was clean and the room is quiet despite being in a central location. Keep in mind that breakfast is not included

And I mean that literally because one of the few problems with this hotel is that for some reason there is no sign outside with the name on it or any indication that it's a hotel. The lobby is just a small desk outside the elevators, but at least someone is always there and we got great help when we needed to store suitcases after check-out and order a taxi to JFK.
Other than that, I have only good things to say. The price was much better than others nearby, the location is perfect with walking distance to Penn Station and Times Square and also a subway station right outside the door to take you anywhere else in Manhattan. The room is fine, beds are decent, TV is pretty big, no complaints. No breakfast, but Taco Bell and other restaurants everywhere right outside the door.

The hotel was in an excellent location, just across from Herald Sq & Macy’s dept store, ideal for walking to various sites & attractions, the subway was closeby, it was near Penn Stn, (Madison Sq Gardens) approx a 10-15 min walk. Bryant Park, Rockefeller Plaza all close.
The hotel does not have a glamorous entry or luxurious lobby & the room was a bit compact but it had everything we needed. The room was a comfortable temperature & did not feel stuffy., We felt safe, it was quiet for sleeping at the same time close to a heavy traffic area.
The bed was comfortable, the bedding was fine. Plenty of hot water for showering, good plush towels. Room had a small refrigerator, a room safe. Wifi worked well at all times.
I must mention that the staff on duty the day we arrived were very welcoming & helpful-Lila, Jose, Joni & as a bonus we were able to check in on arrival in late morning.
The roof top bar was busy the night we stopped in, it would be a terrific spot in the summer as well.
When we return to NYC this is probably the place we will chose to stay.

First the good point, it's in a very convenient location for central New York.
Now the rest, no signage so cab driver wasn't sure we were at the right place. Reception is run by a couple of girls who really don't care if you are there or not. I was charged 150 us dollars on arrival for purchases on my room. This is impossible as it has no bar or restaurant or mini bar, so they took my money for the week I was there plus another week after. Reception is tiny, not very welcoming. On departure we were told to pay 2 dollars per suitcase to leave them behind reception. another rip off, no other hotel I've stayed at in New York charges this, think it's just a money earner for the family member doing it.
Room, we had a superior double, don't be fooled by the photo, whilst the bed was comfy, the walls had black marks on them from the dusty AC, same for the curtains. Certainly not as light and airy as you see in the photos. Carpet was well worn and should be replaced. Room service was good , extra towels were supplied by the maid when we asked her.

Hey! Thank you for your feedback, and I'm glad to hear you found our hotel's location convenient. I'd like to address your concerns regarding the incidental charge, luggage storage fee, and cleanliness. The $150 charge you mentioned is not a charge but an incidental hold placed on your credit card upon check-in. This is a standard practice to cover any potential incidental charges during your stay, such as room service or damages. The hold is released upon check-out, and the actual charges are processed separately. Regarding the luggage storage fee, I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm sorry for any inconvenience the luggage storage fee may have caused. The fee is intended to ensure the secure storage of your belongings, allowing you to enjoy the city without carrying your luggage. I also appreciate your feedback regarding the cleanliness of the room. We take cleanliness very seriously, and I will personally look into the issues you mentioned with the AC, curtains, walls, and carpet to ensure they are addressed promptly. I apologize for any inconvenience you experienced during your stay and appreciate your feedback, as it helps us improve our services. If you have any further concerns or if there is anything else we can do to make amends, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

This was a great wee hotel. Don’t be put off by the dark, small reception area. The bedrooms are absolutely fine. They are big enough, very clean. There is a little fridge in the room which is great but no tea or coffee facilities. The room has no wardrobes to hang clothes in which was a nuisance but there are plenty of little drawers and cupboards. Plenty of toiletries and towels etc. we had a room with a balcony which was great but railing around was so high we could not see anything and felt like a prisoner so don’t waste the extra money on the balcony. The gym is great and there is a room with microwave and vending machines. Hotel has a rooftop bar open to the public but we never heard any noise or anything so don’t let that put you off. Staff are helpful and friendly. You can leave luggage on the last day for 6 dollars which is great facility. The hotel is well positioned for Broadway, Times Square etc.

Hello Hull66, Thank you for sharing your experience at the Herald Hotel! It's great to hear that you found the bedrooms to be clean and spacious and that some of our additional amenities were highlighted as positives, however we are sorry to hear the balcony didn't live up to expectations due to the high railings. It looks like your overall stay was a great one, and it is also reassuring to hear that the staff were helpful and friendly throughout your stay. Thanks again for your insightful review, and we hope to welcome you back soon! Sincerely, LuxUrban Hotels Management Team

I don't think they answer the phone. I tried calling while I was there about the filthy room and there was a weird signal after dialing as if it was disconnected. I had to walk back downstairs to speak to someone.
I also did not get my money back. I cancelled during the free cancelling period
