The Holiday Inn Express Manhattan Times Square South garners appreciation for its tranquil environment and strategic location, offering easy access to New York City's attractions and public transport. Guests commend the cleanliness and attentive service, although experiences with room upkeep are mixed.
While the complimentary breakfast and efficient security measures are popular among visitors, some find the amenities and decor to be in need of an update. Despite its coziness, the hotel's rooms occasionally draw criticism for their size and dated appearance.

Wonderful!
The hotel is in a great location, just a few minutes’ walk from loads of the key tourist areas, and super close to the subway for those further than walking distance. The area felt safe and was relatively quiet for central Manhattan
The included breakfast was well worth it, a good selection of food to fill us up for the day, a different selection every day and brown bags to take away any snacks we wanted to
Staff at the front desk were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much of an issue for them (apart from the girl asleep at 5am who just grunted at us when we went to check out…we weren’t able to rouse her so we just left our keys)
The room wasn’t huge but it was perfectly fine for the two of us. The beds were big and comfy, the temperature was fine and being on the 15th floor we weren’t too close to the traffic noise.
The only things I’d change were to have a bathroom door that closes rather than a sliding one - realise this was done for space but it doesn’t allow a lot in the way of bathroom sound privacy! Also there was nowhere to hang our coats up, a few hooks wouldn’t go amiss
I would 100% stay here again and recommend it to others too!

I have many good things to say about our stay here.
It's value for money compared to so many hotels around here, which is presumably why they are so busy. Simple formula, really. But, you will encounter a variety of people - don't be put off.
Breakfast during Covid was far from as bad as you'd think. In fact, quite the opposite but it depends what you're used to of course. We've been on the road travelling for some months now so we have plenty of comparable experience. Having stayed at a Hilton Garden Inn prior to arriving here, the Holiday Express put them to shame offering so much better quality. Actually, the entire stay was better so they will be getting a grilling.
Also, the room here, if you're lucky (or pay for), can offer views of The Empire State. It's also modern and decent inside too with a great power shower.
Last but not least, service. The ladies were helpful during breakfast but full credit needs to go to Omar on the front desk who was on shift during our check-in. I'm not sure if he is the manager but if he isn't, it can't be long. One of the friendliest greetings in all of our stay in America so far matched with professionalism, local knowledge and sincerity to help. This quality of service coupled with a nice room and breakfast means we stay on a little longer here than we originally thought.

Great location for sightseeing nearby (Times Square, Broadway shows, etc.). Front desk staff were great - friendly and helpful. They can call a car for you for airport transportation as well. Room and lobby were clean. The last few nights we were there, the pipes got really loud. Any time the room above us ran water, the pipes creaked and made sounds like we were underneath an aging elevator (our room wasn’t near the elevator). Breakfast selections included more than the paltry selection of sad wrapped pastries that are often the norm in these times. Staff kept a careful watch over breakfast, quickly refilling items as needed and wiping down tables in between guests. Good value. We would stay here again.

We spent four nights at this hotel, Dec. 13 - 17th, and have no complaints at all. This Holiday Inn Express met all our expectations. It's in a good location. There are food options nearby. There's a subway right around the corner from the hotel, which was convenient. It's an 11 minute walk from Penn Station and approx. a 10 minute walk to Times Square. I have to say we were pleased with the location of this hotel. We stayed in a room with two double beds. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The beds didn't sag at all and there were several pillows on each bed. As for the bathroom, it was clean and had enough towels for the two of us. The water was hot every time we showered and had good water pressure. The body soap, shampoo & conditioner were mounted on the wall in the shower stall, which is a lot better for the environment than those little bottles of shampoo & conditioner that some hotels still use. There wasn't a hair blow dryer in our bathroom, which surprised me, but we were provided one when I asked for one at the front desk of the hotel, so that was no problem. There was a safe in our hotel room big enough to hold your wallet and keys. As others have mentioned, there aren't refrigerators in the room, which was the only thing we would have liked to have. Breakfast is provided in the breakfast room, which is off to the side of the hotel lobby. The breakfast consisted of cinnamon rolls, apples, bananas, cereals, scrambled eggs, and sausage links, along with orange juice, coffee/tea, and milk.
The ladies at the front desk were friendly and very helpful. We asked for directions to a couple of places and they printed directions for us to take with us, which we really appreciated. I've tried to be comprehensive in my review, but the bottom line is we were satisfied with our stay and we'll stay here if we ever return to New York City.

Carrying the Holiday Inn brand name, one would have expected a minimum standard to be maintained. But, the hotel has really ramshackle furniture, bathroom fittings, lift going out of order frequently, water supply being turned off during daytime, and issues with telephones, and housekeeping. Our telephone was dead for the bulk of our stay. Once in two days, they would do housekeeping but run out of towels or supplies when they reach our room. The tap water isn’t potable. Of course, a room in the rear of the hotel keeps the traffic noise away. The breakfast is invariant and nothing much to write home about.
It is a pity because the hotel is well located with the subway, the Penn train station, the Port Authority bus station, Broadway theatre, restaurants and other landmarks at walking distance.
Makes sense to spend the day on outdoor activities and return to the hotel just to sleep.

Spent 4 nights with a friend here. Convenient location near subway, Macy’s, and Times Square. Free breakfast included hot food and basic items. Not a lot of space to sit though. Free WiFi. Between $50-70 to Uber to LaGuardia depending on time of day which takes about 30 minutes depending on traffic. Great view of the Empire State Building from room 1602. Elevators were pretty fast. Clean and comfortable. Reasonable rates. Central location allows you to walk to various tourist attractions. Would stay here again.

Stayed overnight there as it was the closest hotel to a wedding we were attending. Checkin was quick and easy. However, upon entering the 4th floor room assigned to us there was an "odor" - think of the Seinfeld episode with the smelly car. We immediately went downstairs, and the staff was fantastic. Besides getting us another room within 10 minutes, they gave us a 10% discount on the room for our inconvenience. We were very pleased with the second room - high floor, everything worked well, nice and quiet. Breakfast the next day was totally satisfactory - plenty of choices in this covid environment, very clean. Would not hesitate to stay here again, or recommend this hotel to anyone. Parking garage was literally across the street also.

I stayed for a week. My first trip to NYC. All of the hotel staff were gracious and helpful. Hillary, Tiffany, and Ashley made me feel at home and safe.
I added on the little bit for a room with a view and stayed on the 14th floor and it was worth it.
Complimentary breakfast is nothing to write home about but got the job done and got me off to a good start each day and kept the trip on the cheap!
This is a fantastic location near Times Square and with easy subway access at Herald Square and Penn Station where you can launch anywhere around the city! Stay here!

Regrettably, one of the worst experiences staying in the hotel in NYC. I did come during NYE weekend, but it was a mad house. Not worth the money or the time at all. The incidents included witnessing a breakfast-time altercation among the hotel staff -and an unexpected visit from a homeless individual seeking a meal.
The hotel staff, Emmanuel exhibited hostility and aggression, particularly during breakfast. On one occasion, my mother faced unnecessary criticism when attempting to take a few bottles of water to our room. The staff member, without reason, publicly scolded her for taking a seemingly excessive amount, despite others taking more. Security appeared lax, allowing anyone to enter without consequences, jeopardizing the safety of paying guests.
Management proved disorganized and unresponsive. Despite multiple calls to the front desk from my cell phone regarding issues with the room's heating, no effective action was taken.
The lack of communication left me enduring two freezing days.
Additionally, various amenities such as the phone and TV were dysfunctional, and instructions for the heating were absent.
The overall security of the hotel was questionable, with anyone able to enter freely. The hostile demeanor of the staff including front desk further contributed to the negative atmosphere. The only redeeming aspect was the kindness of the housekeeping staff, who seemed to be the only reliable element in the hotel.
In conclusion, this hotel is not worth the money. The rooms are small, lack closet space, and the overall experience is far from satisfactory. If I cannot secure a refund, demand a refund, for this regrettable stay, I caution others against choosing this establishment. It's imperative to avoid it at all costs, as the positive reviews appear to be deceptive.

Dear orchidr2020, Thank you for your review. We apologize for your disappointing experience. We do support our team members and have private security to deal with homeless issues that NYC as a whole does not seem to be taking seriously. Our rooms are average size for NYC and larger than some in the area. Housekeeping places bottled water in the rooms and additional can be requested via the front desk. The heating unit in your room works fine, as maintenance had pointed out, it has to be in HEAT mode. Management reached out to you twice with no answer regrettably. We always do our best to ensure guest satisfaction in terms of service, care and cleanliness. We apologize that you were disappointed in your stay.

This Holiday Inn had everything we needed for our 3 day trip in NYC: location was super convenient and safe, close to everything and nearby subway stations. Very close (less than 5 min) to the Empire State building, about 15 minutes walk to Time Square.
Bed & pillows were very comfortable. Room and bathroom were both very clean. Overall, the room is simple but very clean, and that was all we needed.
Really enjoyed the large Dove shampoo & conditionner, shower gel and hand soap bottles in the bathroom.
Also loved the complimentary water bottles in the room.
The front staff was helpful and very courteous.
The daily breakfast was very generous with anything from omelette, scrambled eggs, sausage, pastries, bagel, bread, yogurts, etc.
All in all, we had a great time and would definitely plan to come back next time we are in NYC!!!
